Nestled just outside Baku, Azerbaijan, the Bibi-Hevkat Mosque stands as a testament to history, faith, and architectural splendour. As I approached the mosque, I was struck by its grandeur—a blend of traditional Islamic design and modern aesthetics.
The mosque's roots trace back centuries. Destroyed and rebuilt several times, it now stands on the site where the revered Ukeyma Khanum, a descendant of Prophet Muhammad, was laid to rest. Visitors can feel the weight of time as they step onto its hallowed grounds.
The mosque's turquoise domes and intricate tilework create a mesmerizing sight against the azure Caspian Sea. The minarets reach for the sky, inviting worshippers and curious travelers alike. Inside, the spacious prayer hall exudes serenity, with sunlight filtering through stained glass windows.
Step outside, and you're greeted by sweeping views of Baku's harbor. The sea breeze carries a sense of peace, and the city skyline shimmers in the distance. It's a place to reflect, to connect with something greater.
Remember to dress modestly when visiting. Cover your shoulders and knees out of respect for the sacred space.

The iconic Shiite mosque-tomb of the descendants of the prophet. It is located on an observation deck above the port, which has a separate value. The inside of the mosque itself is richly decorated, with emerald ceilings and walls. A beautiful building and an important spiritual site, I recommend visiting it.

The Historical Mosque rebuilt on an ancient structure is the center of worship and well preserved. Nice open yard , panoramic views of the port, consisting of the tomb of Ukeyma Khanum (a descendant of Prophet Muhammad), and today attract one and all for its scenic beauty and grand architecture. Alexander Dumas, a French Traveller who visited this place in the 1850s called it the Mosque of Fatima. As this is a place of worship, better to dress properly suitable to the place.

It is on your way when you come back to Baku from Gobustan. Nothing extra ordinary. Used as an additional stopover.

Firstly, the Bibi-Heybat mosque is amazing, inside and out. It looks over a messy dockyard but the architecture is wonderful and if you can go inside, the decorations, door carvings and prayer room is absolutely beautiful.
Secondly, there are several buses that go from Baku City Centre (15 minute journey from the Carpet Museum) and I hope future travellers will squeeze on to a packed 'Marshrutka' and make the effort to see this gorgeous building:
Bus number 120 bus from Azneft Square
124 from 28 May Station & Sahil Station
193 from Azneft Square & Ichari Sheher (Old City)
205 from 20 January (Yanvar) Station
207 from Azneft Square and Sahil Station
The local buses will drop you off ANYWHERE - they don't have to be designated bus stops. Coming from the city centre, the mosque will be on your left and it's very noticeable. When you see it coming up, shout 'Sakhla' (Stop) to the bus driver and he'll just pull up!

A brief visit to the mosque for only 5 minutes...We got a glimpse of the beautiful architecture and colourful designs inside the mosque.
We spent eqaul amount of time in the mosque and in the massive courtyard taking pictures. We didnt take pictures inside as we saw some people praying and didnt want to disturb them.
Please note that women need to cover their heads

I did this by public transport - first by taking a bus from the S Vurghun gardens (near where the airport bus 16 drops you) to a roundabout terminal (this will be fairly apparent as there is quite a lively market at this roundabout), then changing to another bus bound for Qobustan (I believe it is 195, and there are some other buses which have a sign for Qobustan displayed. Can't remember exactly as I visited in July, but do ask and people will tell you which buses to take).
Do remember to ask the driver to tell you where to slight, but you should not miss the mosque in your left. The interior is worth a look too, though not as ornate as the mosque in Shemakhi. All in all, worth a stopover if you are headed for Qobustan, but if not, perhaps not worth making a special trip out. The James Bond oilfield scenes (with the nodding oil donkeys and all) are also long gone as more modern machinery have taken over.

This place is also called Pir Bibi Heybat, and local people call it the Fatimah al-Zahra Mosque. The mausoleum was built in the time of Safavid dynasty but was destroyed during Stalin dynasty.

The place is still standing high, physically and geographically at the top. I had been there at that place three years ago. I found it last time and this time remain great with many visitors.

As far as I know the mosque is open through out the day, however, Friday until 2pm it will be very crowded, including during prayer times.
