The word Beyler means “Gentlemen” hence this was a mosque of the elite males in Azerbaijan. This mosque can be seen near the Shirvanshah’s Palace. It was built between 1870 and 1895 over an older mosque. The style of the mosque is medieval oriental and you can see polychrome limestone arches, pillar supported three-aisled vaulted hall and Byzantine dome. The mosque seems more European than Azerbaijani though the facade has some local touches. This mosque was severely damaged during the Soviet rule when it was converted to a workshop. It underwent massive reconstruction in 2014.
