I also did the Khinalig – Galeykhudat Hiking Tour with Outdoor Caucasus. The reason why I booked this tour was that I wanted a genuine experience, as far as possible. I didn’t want to do it with one of these big tour operators from Baku - be dropped off with a dozen other tourists, have a short walk around and act like a foreign invader to the village and the local people.

Outdoor Caucasus seemed to do it differently and my rather high expectations were fully satisfied.

Nurlan picked me up on time from my hostel with his clean, comfortable and modern car. The traffic in Azerbaijan is what it is, but he seems to be an experienced and safe driver.

After picking up all the other participants (we were five in total) we drove northbound. Along the way, the guides continuously pointed out some very interesting facts, as they seem to know a lot about their country and its history.

In Quba, our first stop, we visited a local farmers market. We bought some seasonal fruits and continued for short tea-break, which was very nice pleasant.

On narrow, winding roads and through deep gorges we continued your way up to the mountains. Before arriving in Khinalig (Xinaliq) we had to switch cars to a 4x4 Lada Niva … yet another unique experience! Once in the village, we walked around, and the guides explained a lot about the settlement, its inhabitants and the life they live up there.

Next, we started our 8km hike to the neighbor village Galeykhudat. The hike itself is not hard at all, but very enjoyable because the surrounding nature and landscape are simply incredible.

Along the way, our guides made sure to tell us more about the region and its history. Toghrul also showed us some local herbs, that were growing along the hiking path and he had us taste them! Nurlan also brought some very tasty, home-made food from his mom for small picnic-break on the mountain.

For me, the highlights of the tour were definitely the dinner with the local family, which accommodated us in their own living room in Galeykhudat, the stunning scenery of the Caucasus mountains and the hike itself.

Spending the day together with Nurlan and Toghrul is very enjoyable, as they are easy-going, thoughtful, patient and very knowledgeable guides. By the way, Nurlan speaks fluent German as well ... which was a big plus for this trip as well!

I highly recommend this tour and the tour guides! Keep up the excellent work guys!

I did the Galeykhudat - Khinalig day tour with Tural and Nurlan and it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience! The scenery was stunning, and the two villages are both unique in their own ways. The hike was very refreshing, and not physically over-demanding. Tural and Nurlan managed the pace very well. And they are such knowledgeable, thoughtful, and fun people to travel with! I'm also extremely grateful to them and the locals for how accommodating they were to my vegan diet.

I decided a few weeks ago to invite my company team to a group trip, in order to develop our team spirit and find inspiration for our on-going projects. I looked on the web for a company that could propose an original, not expensive and nature-centered tour for us, and finally found Outdoor Caucasus. We went for the 8 days trip across Azerbaijan and Georgia. I have been astonished by all the beauties and mysteries that those too unknown countries can conceal, and my primary purpose was fulfilled way beyond my expectations. Thanks to all the team of Outdoor Caucasus, who has been so nice and professional, and special regards to our guide Togrul who had us spend wonderful moments. See you soon!

We did this hike with Heydar. He was brilliant. Interesting guy and a good safe guide. Sadly the weather wasn’t great on our hike with rain & fog. So we didn’t see any views. However I’d was t still a really fun experience getting on the mountain & meeting the local families.

The whole trip was organised professionally and the company was very helpful and flexible with the last minute changes of plan which we made due to the bad weather. Our guide was amazing. We spent the entire trip discussing history and culture of Azerbaijan and admiring breathtaking views. We have visited many places in Azerbaijan but this trip was definitely the most spectacular as regards the nature and landscape. If you hesitate between choosing a trip to Xinalig only and that one the later one is a much much better choice.

I arranged for a 3-day private tour covering some diverse landscapes and culturally rich places in Azerbaijan. It included the absolutely gorgeous Sheki with its rich heritage of silk road and not-to-be-missed mountains in Azerbaijan. The trip to Sheki is quite long, but absolutely worth it! The guide was knowledgable and helpful
My highlight and making the choice of going with outdoor caucasus is the hiking from Khinalig to Galeykhudat with a local lunch. I also managed to include a visit and short hike to Khizi mountains. This was the best part of the whole experience, not only because of the the jaw-dropping beauty of the mountains, but also due to Masud, a young enthusiastic and super friendly guide who was a great companion! I had loads of fun with folks, including Seymour, the driver. I appreciated the vegetarian lunch option offered at Galeykhudat. Overall, I am so thankful to outdoor Caucusus for creating some great memories of this beautiful country.
get outdoorsy with them!

Amazing experience. We hiked in the beautiful mountains - very remote. Incredibly hospitable meal at a local family’s home. Such a memorable day. Our guide was fantastic.

We couldn't have asked for a better guide in Baku and then on our day trip up to the mountains. Tural was a knowledgeable, well organized and extremely kind guide. I felt like we saw a really authentic side of Azerbaijan and it was an unforgettable visit as a result. One tip: bring a warm layer to the mountains, it can get pretty windy! 10/10 recommend.
