The market is quite colorful, real Baku, relatively inexpensive by Moscow standards, but there is always the feeling that they want to heat you up and cheat you. At least a little, or better yet more. Cheat, name a price higher than for locals, slip something. This is wrong and unacceptable! I don’t remember such an impression from any market, anywhere, from Tashkent to Paris, from Tbilisi to Barcelona! Gentlemen of Baku, nothing personal, business is business everywhere, but the main city market of the capital, as an expression of the cultural and gastronomic code, should be welcoming and hospitable, and not creepy.

This market was a great place to check out and the fruit, veg, spices, local confectionary and other local products were plentiful and colourful. It’s like a beautiful piece of artwork with the spices and dried fruit arranged carefully and looking very inviting. Take 30 minutes to visit and buy some quality local produce.

A huge market full of color, smell and noise of sellers. Surprisinglngly it was not crowded at all on that day (I felt pity for the market sellers) I hope and guess it is not the usual situation ,
Anyway it was really lovely to see and enjoy the large market.

We were the only tourists at this bustling market and yet we were not hounded by the stall holders at all. They wanted us to try their produce before we bought anything and whilst we probably paid more than necessary we felt it was more about the experience and the people. A must see to get a different perspective of life in this vibrant city.

Adjacent to the hotel. Had to go and buy some fresh fruits like giant strawberry and pomegranate. If you don't know the price, be sure that they will cheat you.

I had no idea why this place was included in city tour.
You can buy condiments, fresh fruits, sweets, dry fruits...
I don't think tourists would buy pickles.Or fresh fish for that matter.

This is just another market. Nothing special. Not a tourist attraction. If you need to buy something come here.

We had a ball wandering around beautifully laid out stalls of all sorts of food.
A must for anyone with a hint of interest in this sort of thing. Of course it cost us nothing to go - we walked from near Fountain Square. If this is not your thing Taxis (we use the Taxify app on our iPhone) are cheap and easy
The Stall owners were more than helpful and loved a "chat" despite our Azeri shortcomings (and they are huge).
As an Australian we have strict quarantine laws and I wish I had translated the need for commercial packaging to get foodstuffs (spices essentially) back into Australia before we went. We now have it and it made explaining why we could not buy some things much easier.
All in all - a fantastic experience.
