I never know how to review 'statues'. Mostly I like to acknowledge that I've seen then, and rarely much else.

This is one of the more impressive works around Baku

Elmira Hüseynova's Masterpiece!
Aug 2017 • Family
This is a beautiful sculpture you can see in the Old Town of Baku near the entrance of the publishing house that published the Azerbaijani Encyclopedia. Unlike other things in the Old Town this piece is not very old. It was crafted by the talented artist Elmira Hüseynova in 1983. The figure honors Hasan bey Zardabi, the father of modern Azerbaijani journalism and theatre. He was the journalist who brought out the first Azeri newspaper called "Akinchi" in the year 1875. The artwork shows the bearded, hat clad Zardabi reading a newspaper. It is a very artistic piece with a stylized tree. You can find it on the right hand as you enter the double gates of Old Town.

Came upon this by chance. Love the street art and sculptures found throughout Baku. They range from the Soviet austere to the modern to the quirky. This one is in the heart of the Old town on your way from Freedom Square through the gates to the old town on the way to Maiden Tower
Great photo opportunity, well worth a short visit.
