Nizami Ganjavi is a major figure in Azerbaijan, so he deserves an impressive statue in a prominent spot. He's got it with this one. You'll walk past and take your picture.

I was not planning on coming here. But I saw it while walking from Fountain Square to the Old City. It was nice to see it and discover that Nizami Ganjavi is a major figure in Azeri history.

Among the many statues in Baku the one dedicated to Nizami Ganjavi is extraordinary because of the great pride the Azeri take in the man as one of them and author of most influential texts such as Leyla ve Mejnoun.
The statue itself is interesting, too. Looking at it closely you can discover scenes from Nizami‘s works. (This is also an element of the bust of Aliaga Vahid, not far away, by the way).

This monument to a famous Azer 12 cent poet is just between the pedestrian Fountain sq and old walled city, opposite the Museum of Literature.
A big staircase leading up to it adds up to it's grandeur looking kind of Sovietish style.

This is a lovely and imposing monument of a famous 12th century poet.
The monument is located in a beautiful square not too far outside the old city walls.
