No swimming and apparently too dirty
Aug 2018 • Couples
I went there in the summer during the week. No one was there. I asked people on the street if one go swimming in the lake. Both looked astonished and said:noo way it is much too dirty.

So I didn't.
I would not recommend it.

went there during winter with friends, and it was freezing cold. you need to climb up the stairs to see the magnificent view of the lake! once your on top, there is a monastery perched on a hill.

The biggest (artificial) lake in Yerevan
Oct 2016 • Solo
This is the biggest artificial lake in Yerevan. Formerly one of the favorite places for recreation among locals. In summer you can notice swimmers and kayakers in the lake. There are also seagulls gathering over the lake.

Very nice view on a clear day of the Yerevan Lake and Mt Ararat in the distance. I wish there were a bike path here.
Apr 2015 • Solo
Yerevan Lake, also known as Yerevanyan Lake, is actually not a lake -- it is a reservoir which was built in the 1960s. According to some internet searches, it's surprisingly deep, at 60 feet max depth and is about 0.25 square miles total surface area. The "lake" is most easily viewed along Admiral Isakov Ave on the west side or along the small Shengavit St on the east side. The "Water Sports High School" has a boat launch on the north end of the lake which is commonly used for launching kayaks and canoes. Yerevan Lake is rather nicely situated in a way that you can see Mt Ararat hovering over the lake on clear days. But honestly, I find the lake to not be very accessible. There is no park, trail, or even overlook where you can sit and enjoy the view. Yerevan has nearly no biking infrastructure of any kind, but Yerevan Lake would benefit greatly if they made a nice bike path around it. On a clear day the water looks a nice tone of blue and reflects nearby buildings in a pretty way, but up close you will surely be disappointed in the amount of trash (mostly plastic) that is floating along the edges. Despite the pollution, people do fish and kayak in the lake daily. Overall a nice place and I recommend taking a look.
