Also loved this and glad the great reviews convinced me to go. I also, like many others, had never heard of this artist and I now LOVE his work, even buying two prints in the small gift shop after. I didn’t pay for an English tour but one was going on whence I arrived so I ended up just joining that one, gratis. The guide, Lillit I think her name is, was excellent. Excellent English and her passion for Kochar’s innovative work really shines through. She even had a a short video started for us on his famous piece, The Disaster of War. Although photos it seems are technically not allowed (a very silly and detractory rule), she let it go so GREATLY appreciate that! Was there easily 1.5 hours. The museum is small but with the excellent guide making his art and story come alive, worth it. Only detracting one star bc I had to use the loo and the woman cleaning the bathroom practically scowled at me, making me feel very uncomfortable. Like I was in the wrong!!

What a talented artist way ahead of his time with his creations! We didn't know who Ervand Kochar was and almost didn't go even though we walked passed this museum many times on our way to Cascade!

It is well worth seeing this museum for about 500 tram which is about $1. I highly recommend getting a guide for 2000 to 3000 tram more( $5 to $7.50, I can't remember the exact amount). Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate. We have a greater understanding of his forever famous Sasountzi Tavit's sculptor, and understand the inbuilt symbolisms.

We also have a greater understanding of the suppression of creativity during the 1930's and 40's, often resulting in cruel imprisonment. What a tragedy!

Kochar was an outstanding and visionary artist who missed the international recognition he deserves when he left Paris and returned to Armenia in 1936. This museum is well worth the visit.

Visiting this small museum in Yerevan is a must. The exhibit is very particular and different from other arts I have seen.
The guided tour from the staff is definitely worth the money because you can then understand and appreciate the beauty of Kochar's arts. The staff explained the exhibit passionately and with excellent knowledge.
Memorable experience, highly recommended!

They knew each other and exhibited in the same Parisian exhibition. No need to say anything more. Don't miss this museum and ask for a guide. This is a must see!

The concept of house museums is very interesting and Yerevan has many such museums. The museum guide explained different stages of the artist’s life and his special individual style in detail. Painting in 3D was especially interesting and his juxtaposition of color. One can buy (relatively inexpensive – for western tourists) packets of painting/sculpture examples. I included a couple of pictures with each gift I brought back. It helps to come to this house museum first and then see real examples of his magnificent sculptures, such as – in front of the train station.

Ervand Kochar ( 1899-1979) is a important sculptor and artist of the twentieth century, founder of Painting in Space style.Painting in Space is an art movement that syntheses painting, graphic and sculpture.

Good: I am very happy to did not miss this place in my itinerary. Small museum ,opened near Yerevan's Cascade in 1984,with great collection and friendly and informative staff. There are many great works of him exhibited in this museum and also in Yerevan’s squares(statues like:VARDAN MAMIKONYAN and DAVID SASSOUN). This was my first contact with this artist’s works and with painting in space style, which was amazing. Really I became excited with his masterpiece painting:disaster of war.
Bad: late starting working hour:11:00 AM!
Ugly: photography not allowed.
Advise: if you read this review before of your departure to Armenia,Please bring anything related to Ervand Kochar you can find in your language for this museum, they try to collect them.

The museum was under minor rennovation when we visited in late-December 2014. They were in the process of replacing many of the pedestals holding the sculptures as well as hanging new items on the walls. But despite the dust, the staff was very welcoming and allowed us the view the exhibits. Entrance fee was 600 dram per person (about $1.20 USD), so very inexpensive from a foreign tourist perspective. I was surprised when one of the staff started to give us a detailed overview of the exhibits, the history of Ervand Kochar, and then each of the different themes of his work. She stayed with us for about 30 minutes providing considerably more information than we would have gathered on our own. She spoke excellent English. Afterwards she let us wander on our own for a bit, and then asked (but not pushy) if we wanted to buy any books, but was plenty okay with us not buying anything. She said the rennovation would be completed by end of January 2015. Overall worth the quick visit.

Really interesting tiny museum in the centre. Kochar is one of the most known armenian painters and sculptor of the twentieth century, who is still modern even for our time.
