It is your standard square in a city. The buildings are pretty. We went early in the morning and it was not crowded (although the fountains weren’t going, either). Doesn’t take but a few minutes to walk through, but walk through it you should as it is the center of so many of Yerevan’s attractions.

REPUBLIC SQUARE is the heart of Yerevan, the central square of the capital city.
It is designed in 1926, completed later (1977), is very big, is surrounded by very important buildings (e.g. History Museum, Government Building, National Gallery, etc.) and is connected with the history of Armenia (e.g. Yearly Parades, Lenin Statue, Velvet Revolution 1918, Demostrations, etc.). The major part is a roundabout and another part is consisting of the musical fountains in front of the History Museum. It is a nice and enormous main square of Yerevan with architectural neoclassical gems around it (with pink and yellow tuff stones), with a wonderful musical fountain and therefore it is not to be missed when visiting Yerevan.
We have visited it many times during our visit (both during the day and the night) as it was a reference point for us and we strongly suggest visiting it.

"Republic Square" was designed, in 1924, by iconic Russian-born Armenian architect Alexander Tamanyan in his plans for renovating Yerevan. It consists of a roundabout and a pool. At the roundabout, five major neoclassical buildings - the "Government House", the "History Museum and National Gallery", the "Armenia Marriott Hotel", and the former headquarters of the "Ministry of Foreign Affairs" and of the "Ministry of Transport and Communications". At the pool, the gracious and popular "Dancing Fountains". You will certainly pass through "Republic Square" many times during your visit to Yerevan, as it is the usual way to some of the city's most important attractions. The square is generally busy and crowded, principally in the evenings when the "Dancing Fountains" are on! Unmissable! Enjoy!

What a stunning square. The buildings are just beautiful. Really nice to see you at night or even dusk as the lights on the beautiful pink stones make it look amazing. It was filled with soooo many people though. Still a gorgeous place to see at night.

The heart of Yerevan. The place where you start your journey as a tourist like me. The hotels, cafe, restaurants, and other shops are just a walking distance away.
Surprisingly, the square is maintained properly especially a lot of tourist are visiting the country during this time of the year.

So lively and christmassy.. I loved it . I’m so glad I went here for Christmas and new year ..
I was just disappointed coz I didn’t see the dancing fountains .. I realized they covered it temporarily 😂- still ok
And I like the songs played from the museum
And I got to see there Prime Minister.

A beautiful spot that is well worth visiting. There usually vendors on nights and weekends selling snacks and toys. Only negative thing is that there are no traffic lights at the pedestrian crossings so sometimes you need to dodge traffic crossing the streets.

Have you heart the song time after time? The lyrics “if you’re lost , you can look and you Will Find me time after time” This came into my head when I think of this place. Why? Because when Im lost and I look at the map this one is my guide, my starting point to look where I am and where I wanna go.
It also reminds me of the movie I watched before “ghost of girlfriend past” maybe because of the night view or the clock. The movie is all about How consecutive choices builds up to a future outcome. Which made me reflect again tonight because of the choices ive been making.
First, a stupid choice to eat ice cream (tiramisu) after feeling a bit better is definetly a no no but still did it, else I wouldnt be able to sleep tonight thinking of ice cream. Plus laughing a Lot coz, cant Help it because Im funny and my roomate is funny as well. Now my airways is angry at me again. Life is short gotta eat that ice cream haha and fix it with herbal tea lol.
Second, the choice I made to run away from a red flag as soon as I see it, yes pushing people away can lead to being alone forever but the thing is, I cant make the same choice holding on to people, begging for time, attention and a song? I dont want that anymore. They either do what they say they would , and sing or just stay away. Simple. I rather spend my time Improving my art or reading about accounting, rather than hang on to words that mean nothing, rather than wonder why I wasnt Good enough for them. Time and Choices, this place has this effect especially at night. Oh time will come where I will meet my soulmate who won’t make me feel I’m asking for too much.
Anyway today is a nice day, rest and reflection then tomorrow get back to reality.
I still want to tell more about this place but i’ll stop here. Well I’d Love to visit this again when the fountain is open, its closed due to the weather.
(This is unrelated but near here is a supermarket where you can buy armenian coffee with the owl logo, its really good my cousin liked it. The panda chocolates as well is Good the white one is milk chocolate, the brown is dark chocolate. Its comes in packaging like candy, the kids Love it. If you’re going in a family trip or have a kids at home try that chocolate and Find that supermarket, they’ll Love it)
Ps: forgive the nonsense, I really like writing when overwhelmed and can’t go to sleep. It makes me sleepy after 😂🤣

Quite big in size this square has a Soviet touch to its architecture , try to see In summer as water fountains are active and dancing with people and crown sparing water on each other .
You need 3 hours to check out the square including its surrounding such as restaurant shops and attention as well as sight seeing .

I’m always here during my tour, just to relax and feel the winter in front of the giant Christmas tree and at the center of the clock tower. The place is very accessible to everything. Lots of affordable foods and souvenirs. Really a tourist spot. Would love to sit back & relax here everyday.

No we didn’t try. But everything is cheap and most of it is safe. For me last time I go to Armenia I’m using tour and also package from hyur travel Agency in Armenia. Just google them on the website. Is very recommended.

А в Ереване пешком - площадь Республики, площадь Оперы, Северный проспект (местный Арбат), площадь мэрии (не знаю офиц.названия), там же недалеко российское посольство, и конечно Каскад
Если времени немного, для Еревана этого достаточно.
