About
Long Thanh's photographic repertoire is unique as its wide-ranging. His landscapes are often moody, contrasting the natural beauty of Vietnam with the continuing struggle in people's daily lives, while Long Thanh's portraiture captures the essence of the Vietnamese people, especially his high-contrast pictures of old people who have witnessed more than their fair share of tradegy over the generations.

Some photos of Long Than were exhibited in our hotel and I was fascinated by them. So, we decided to go to the gallery where there are many more exposed. We bought two beautiful prints which were expertly wrapped by Long Than's wife so that we could take them on our long travel home without risking to damage them. We even had the pleasure to meet Long Than personally and to have an interesting conversation with him. I can only recommend his Gallery and his photos: the whole spirit of Vietnam captured on paper in black and white!

Long Thanh's photo gallery truly captures the culture, life, and feeling of Vietnam. His photos are truly beautiful, and would encourage anyone to at least just stop by to take a look.

A very nice man and didn't charge us any admission fee. I loved his photography! Stunning detail and my favorite type of photos. He didn't want to accept any donation as a thank you!! If you are a photographer go and get inspired!

B&W snapshots of Vietnamese daily life. An impressive collection of photos that really catches "the essential soul peeking out", to say it with McCurry. The attraction I liked the most in Nha Trang.
Free entrance, DON'T MISS!

The exhibition did not seem commercial as some of the pictures were standing on the floor, the titles were written by hand and during our visit there were no other tourists/visitors. However, this was not disturbing at all, it created a non stiff environment and together with the music, the ambiance was wonderful. Moreover, the pictures were very strong and beautiful. The fact they were taken with an old-fashioned black and white camera makes the images even more impressive through their simplicity. There were no further discriptions with the pictures, but Long Thanh was there to answer all of our questions. Most of the pictures speak for themselvers and show the Vietnamese in their daily routines. Most impressive for me was the picture of the grandfather with his grandson, there naked skin touching each other n their contrastfull hug. Altogether, a beautiful place worth a short visit!

Long Thanh gallery in Nha Trang is really must-see place for every educated and interested in art person.
This exhibition shows classical black and white prints - all home made, what is more important nowadays when film photography survives certain crisis.
So, Long Thanh is very talented photographer and shows Vietnam life in amazing atmosphere of black and white photography. And also he is very open hearted man. Every visitor at his gallery can feel himself like at home. I am very grateful for those hours which I spent in Long Thanh gallery in discussion about photography and life in general.

If you have an interest in photography or the photographic arts, Long Thanh's gallery is a must-see in Vietnam. Long started shooting on film in 1964 when he was 13, and still shoots on film to this day. Today he's world-renowned for his ability to portray Vietnam's culture and people with a unique eye and a mastery of light and contrast.

Long develops his own film in his darkroom (located in the back of his gallery) and mixes his own chemicals. He eschews modern digital manipulation in favor of traditional darkroom techniques. The process—from taking the shot to developing the film—is handcrafted and personal. The limited image exposures of this process mean that each shot is more unique and organic than you find with modern digital photography.

Long's gallery is a comfortable two-room space on a quiet street in Nha Trang. It contains prints of his work and a portion of his analog camera collection, which he still uses daily. Visitors to the gallery will likely be greeted and catered to by the man himself. On my recent visit, he graciously spent hours with me, explaining his art, his process, and his method. He is friendly, talkative, and an incorrigible charmer.

Keep in mind that Long Thanh's gallery is not a major tourist attraction (most people visit Nha Trang for the beaches, not analog black-and-white photography), so the door might not be wide open. When I visited, there was a sign on the door that told visitors to ring the bell for entry. I did so, and Long soon greeted me. The gallery is clearly marked and easy to find.

Highly recommended if you are into visual arts or Vietnamese culture.

Thanh Long welcome me with a rude welcoming: "what are you doing here? This is my house." With other white people are all around. What a racist artist. Will never come here not recommend any to come again. Good luck.

Dear Mr. Leo L Thanks a lot for spending your treasure time on paying a visit to our gallery and also expressing your concerns here. Please accept our apology for this misunderstanding. Mr. Artist is not a racist as you thought, since he has so many friends from all over the world who are keen on art and photography like him. You came to visit our gallery, so I strongly believe that you also have a profound passion for art, for black & white photographs and for Vietnam as well. Moreover, you could be one of our potential customers in future, so I assure there’s no reason for the racism in this situation Mr. Leo L. I think the main problems for this misunderstanding came from the limitation in communication and expressing thoughts by English of Mr. Artist. I hope that you will forgive us if this misunderstanding made you feel uncomfortable or maybe disappointed about us. We love to see you and your friends once again in our gallery so that we have more chance to understand each other. Please take care Mr. Leo L ! Best regards, Anna Long
