Beautiful Temple
Feb 2021
Rebuild and restored since the end of the Vietnam War, the Mieu Temple is a place to worship ancient emperors of Vietnam. It was wonderful to just try to imagine what the place must have been like when the Imperial City was at its peak - and was filled with courtesans and colorful costumes. This is definitely a must-see in Hue if you're at all interested in Hue's incredible history.

Commemorates Royal Ancestors
Mar 2019
Built in 1821 under the direction of Emperor Minh Mang, this structure commemorates the previous Emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty, with portraits and shrines dedicated to each Emperor. An expansive courtyard sits in front of the Temple. The nine Dynastic funerary urns are located between the Mieu Temple and the Hiem Lam Pavilion. The center urn which is the largest, commemorates Emperor Gia Long, the first Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty, and the creator of the Citadel. The Temple was damaged by fire, but has been beautifully restored.

The citadel is basically the main reason for visiting Hue and worth a detour. Situated within the citadel stands the Mieu temple. Unfortunately a lot has been damaged during the war.

A beautiful place

A highlight in the Imperial City. A place to worship ancestors. Quite crowded with tourists but all are respectful about removing shoes and hats and not talking or taking photos. After visiting the temple pleasant to walk around a bit.

Peaceful
Jan 2019 • Friends
What I liked most about visiting this temple was the total lack of people. We biked here from the Thien Mu Pagoda which was full of tourists. But here we were left on our own to contemplate a very peaceful site. It was a temple dedicated to Confucian scholars. It is a lovely spot. There is not too much to see beyond the old entrance to the temple and the restored arcades that house the steles of the Confucian scholars who passed the National Examinations. But it is worth wandering the small tranquil grounds.

Ancestral temple

This was our last stop of our roaming around the Imperial city for 3 hours. The complex which houses the Hien Lam Pavilion, Mieu Temple and the Nine dynastic Urns is one of highlights of the Royal Imperial City. The temple is quite beautiful, there was hardly anyone around during our visit, nice to admire in relative peace.

Beautiful spot

One of my favourite spots in the Citadel. It has been sympathetically restored and if you are visiting here is a must see.

This is an amazing site within the restored area of the imperial city, with sweeping grounds it stands magnificent, if you go to the citadel you wont miss it, but make sure you take some time to see it properly.
