I cycled from Hue along the river to thre pagoda. Very nice cycle ride almost all flat road straight from the centre of Hue to the entrance to the Pagoda. There are some touristy shops outside in a little market place where you can buy drinks etc right by the boat landing if you came by river cruise. The pagoda itself isn't massive but it is worth the look around just for the view of the mountains. There is a large woodland area at the back which is nice to walk through and you must not forget to rub the head of the giant turtle statue on the way out. He's said to bring luck!

Inside the Forbidden Purple City is the temple of the Generations, which is dedicated to the emperors of the Nguyen Dynasty, and was built between 1882 and 1823 by order of Emperor Minh Nag to worship the ancestors of the dynasty . Inside is an altar for each of the 10 Nguyen emperors, the first emperor of the dynasty and the right and left being at the center follow the rest in order of mandate. It is located west of the south gate, between the Pavilion of future Glorias (Hien Lâm CAC) and the Temple of the Resurrection (Hung To Miếu). During the ceremonies were held inside, women were not allowed access. During the war he suffered very little damage, so it currently can admire part of the original construction. It is one of the few temples in Vietnam to enter had to take off our shoes, and had to take pictures without the flash and a bit hidden from the guards who were at the door. Worth admiring the decor of the altars and columns and fixtures on the inside. A haven of pas.

This seems to be destroyed during the war as the main part of the temple is newly painted in red and gold. The original temple was constructed to worship the first nine emperors.

Without a local guide, this place would be a mystery as virtually no info provided on site. Appears to be a modern re-construction.

We walked to the Temple as part of our daily exercise but as it was very humid we decided to either rickshaw or taxi back. The taxi ride was 100,000VD. We were asked if we wanted to go by boat for 250,000VD and we negotiated 200,000. As soon as we set off we were pestered about buying clothing and pictures.
On saying no each time the boat travelled faster, which suited us as we didn't want to be hassled. Three times we were confronted with objects to buy. On reaching shore we were asked for 400,000VD as it was then explained to us that it was 200,000VD per person. At the Temple two different dragon boat owners approached us and each of them quoted 250,000 per boat.
Double check before accepting a ride. This soured our day. Be warned.
In regards to the Temple visit, ladies might find it useful to have a few tissues in their handbags for visits to the WC.

One of my favourite spots in the Citadel. It has been sympathetically restored and if you are visiting here is a must see.

As I have already shared about the Imperial city, most of it has either been blown to smithereens or is being replaced by a decent replica, so, if you are wont to compare to other similar sounding monuments, you may be disappointed. However, as it stands, it is a testament to how close the conflict really was to the heartland of Vietnam.

Located at the left side of the main Citadel, it is the most peaceful part of the Citadel. Very Beautiful and less crowded.
This Temple act as an ancestral temple to Vietnam's emperors in the Imperial City.
The architecture itself is very impressive and really worth the walk.
