We came here for breakfast and to have a peek around. This place is designed for locals so you can definitely pick up some cheap and tasty eats. The market ranges from raw foods to t-shirts and usual stuff you find at tourist markets.
You will need to haggle if you want to buy any tourist stuff.
The cooked food is on the outer rims of the markets and look for where there are locals gathered around. You won't find many people speaking English.

Do not visit Dong Ba Market, especially if you are a woman traveling alone. I made the mistake of walking into the place and meeting a man who said he had a shop with high quality shirts. After I told him I was not interested in shirts, he blocked my path, violated my space, pushed me and threatened me. None of the other vendors did anything. I was the only foreigner there.
I was terrified and saw no other way out but to comply with his demands since I was concerned for my safety.
He harassed me, verbally and physically threatened me and would not allow me to leave until I bought 4 shirts for double the price. I later discarded the shirts.
The market is overcrowded with merchandise and has very narrow one lane dirt rows which merchants can utilize to block visitors on both sides.
The large market has no security and no wifi, so smartphones are useless. The place is dark and so compacted with goods that it looks like a fire hazard. There are no water sprinklers or fire extinguishers.
I am writing this so no other woman experiences the same treatment I endured.

We were escorted through the market with our guide doing a very good job explaining the different products for sale. The market was crowded with locals pushing by but we saw none of the aggressive selling behavior mentioned in other posts. The market did not seem particularly clean with some items like fish not on ice and we did see a giant roach crawling inside a package of noodles. That was too much for my western sensibilities. Be careful with your footing as the pavement was very uneven and sometimes wet.

I found the market very interesting. It's crowded with sometimes pushy sellers (be polite but firm) and people pushing past you, but it's authentic and interesting. You can buy almost anything in the crowded maze of shops. I had bun bo hue at one of the stalls inside which was quite nice. I enjoyed exploring and no one minded when I took photos.

An authentic Vietnamese market, making this an unique experience for the traveler, but most certainly not catered to the tourist.
The downside of this experience was twofold, the unsafe use of moving dollies to shift product around as an old woman walked into me with the handle, luckily for me it missed my phone in my front pocket and instead collided with my hip. Coupled with the unsanitary conditions where raw poultry was located, spilling juices onto the floor.
There was nothing of value that I would seek out to purchase, as the market is catered to locals, however I did end up buying a t-shirt here, just as a reminder of my time in Hue.

This is a big local market to sell everything, vegetables, clothes, toys, ornaments and so many! It’s a good place to buy souvenirs such as teas or dried fruits but bargaining is tough. There’s a food court and we had breakfast there. The lady kept serving the food which we didn’t order. You have to say no if you don’t want to because she will charge you. The lady charged us quite a lot for breakfast. There’s no menu and obvious she charges more for tourists.
There’s a gigantic supermarket adjacent to, so it’s interesting to see the difference.

A busy market, with loads of market stalls and plenty of food options. We struggled to find a food stall with translated menus, so it was difficult to order but the food was fine and it was a fun experience. I didn’t like Dong Ba as much as the markets in Hoi An or Saigon, as it felt a bit scruffy and dingy in comparison, but it’s still an interesting way of spending an hour or two.

It is worth a stroll thru and spend less hen one hour here. I was tempted to buy something’s, but had second thoughts when you see it all deposed to the environment and nothing really covered or handled with care. Got hungry, had a bowl of soup, was not very smart of me, but manage to survive. Easy stroll and say parking but be careful moving around crowded areas.

Local food beyond my expectation. I've tried Banh Beo, Banh Cuon, Oc Hut, Salted coffee. So so so delicious and cheap as well. Will be back next time.

Hi all,
I spend most of my time in Vietnam and know it as well as my own back yard in Aus, but not so sure about what's involved with travel in China.
Here goes the dumb question and hope there is someone out there, stop laughing, ok a little bit, that might be able to help or even travel with me.
Q: Can I go directly to the 3 Gorges Dam, fly or however, pick up a small boat, motor or not and make my way down the river to Shanghai stopping where ever I please?
My time is my own so I am not on a timetable at all.
Then from Shanghai back to Vietnam. HCMC.
I would appreciate any info on this "are you mad" idea of mine, lol.
Thank you and happy travels to all.
