As other reviews state, this is a traditional market. So there will be meat, poultry and seafood lining the streets along withe vegetables and fruit. This is the real day to day life of the people here. Don’t let that stop you from coming. This is why you’re traveling. Inside the market there are many food vendors. You can eat a freshly made Vietnamese breakfast and watch the vendors work. Don’t miss it,

Rarely have I seen any tourist attractions this market. It's a great place for sightseeing and to get some of the best street food in Vietnam. If you're going to shop here you have to be sharp. I don't even go with my wife when she shops here. Because I'm Western they will double the price for everything. Since you're a tourist it only fair that you pay a little more than the locals. However this doesn't mean you should let them rip you off. If you want to buy something you should never pay more than 25% of what it would cost back home. Example, if you want to buy some sandals, you might pay $20. Here you they will cost you $5. However you will need to do a little haggling to get that price. Never seem to eager to buy anything, even if it's exactly what you have been looking for. Most importantly if you get the price you wanted or within a dollar or two you better buy it. Also always be very nice and don't try on or pick up something you don't want to buy. Respect the people, respect their culture and you will have no problems. Another thing worth mentioning is that if you want to buy some jewelry or gold the best shop in the city is Mi Hong. It's located across the street off the south east corner of the market. The best bargains are the 24k gold items. No matter what the style or pattern it always sold by weight. Don't get ripped off at the shops in District 1. Keep in mind not to wear jewelry, backpacks, or carry a hand bag. NEVER SHOP HERE AT NIGHT! Trust me I lived across the street.

I went here in the afternoon. This market has everything you will ever need: fruits, vegetables, and arrays of second-hand clothes.
Bought an authentic Zara jeans which look so new for only $2!
Also bought a lot of new-looking Japanese branded clothes for less than $1 each.
Sometimes, the clothes even still has a tag on it.
If you're a tourist, they might try to increase the price so be sure to haggle especially when you're buying more than one.
I've been to many markets in Saigon but so far, the fruits and vegetables here are the cheapest.
Bought eggplants, 1 whole cabbage, lettuce, onions, 7 pieces of whole garlic, 1/4 kilo of bean sprout, a big pumpkin, 1 kilo of banana, and 1/4 kilo of kiwi all for $5.
Kiwi is so expensive in Saigon but this is the only market where i could find Kiwi for a much cheaper price.
This is now my go-to market every week!
NOTE: Be careful of your pickpockets and don't shop here at night.

It is most definitely where the locals are. we caught the bus which was super cheap and very do-able. But it was pretty full on in terms of the food section, as an Australian I am not used to seeing full pig hooves and other animal bits up close and personal. The clothes on the top level did seem cheap, however none would ever fit me and I'm a size 10. If you have some extra time - sure, but if you have to go out of your way for this I possibly would say there's nothing you can't see a little closer to the city centre. Having said that everyone was very pleasant and tried to help where they could but no English.

following the recommendation by eatingsaigon.com I randomly got a xe om to this market. I then spend 2 hours wandering and people watching in this bustling authentic vietnamese market. It was wonderful and very cheap too. Even if you are just in Saigon for a day, come here instead of Ben thanh market definitely!

I’m purely rating this market from a tourists review and I would not recommend going to this market. It’s very intense and the smells are so terrible and so overpowering that it’s so hard to get past to looking at the produce on sale. There is some clothing, fake branded things and shoes however there is not a lot compared with other markets we visited in Ho Chi Minh. Overall a very bad experience for my friend and I and I wouldn’t recommend the visit unless you’re a local or wanting an ‘authentic’ Vietnamese market.

There are plenty of things we can buy in this market. Don’t hesitate to bargain strongly to get a good price. I like the food here. You, especially foreigners will definitely love the traditional Vietnamese food here. They are all affordable.
Plus, it’s easy to reach here by buses. From Ben Thanh, get bus number 18. From Go Vap, get bus number 24. From Mien Dong bus station, get bus number 24 or 95, etc.
This is one of the most popular markets in HCMC. Go and enjoy! ;-)

Shop like locals. this market is not a tourist attraction but if you want to see how locals shop you should visit here. But be prepared to bargain as they double the price for a tourist.

I think I'm just not big on the whole market thing - Ba Chieu, Ben Thanh or otherwise. My parents, who were born in HCMC, took our family of 5 here on a very hot April day. Maybe it was the heat. Maybe it was the odors. Maybe it was the dirty feet of the man who sold me my dragon fruit, guava and mangoes. My parents swear by the vermicelli and spring roll dish of the vendor adjacent to the fresh fruit area and although they enjoyed their lunch, I found it to be fairly average. Prices are great but it was a forgettable experience for me.

Mình nghĩ chợ Bà Chiểu là nơi không tốt lắm, hơi tối, cực ẩm ướt, 1 ít người bán hàng thiếu thân thiện, bạn có thể tìm thấy mọi thứ thật rẻ nhưng mà ko hẳn tìm thấy thứ khá tốt ,khá thất vọng 😭😭😭
