It is most definitely where the locals are. we caught the bus which was super cheap and very do-able. But it was pretty full on in terms of the food section, as an Australian I am not used to seeing full pig hooves and other...More

Shop like locals. this market is not a tourist attraction but if you want to see how locals shop you should visit here. But be prepared to bargain as they double the price for a tourist.

Everything! Shoes, clothing, small appliances, pots & pans. Very cheap but questionable quality and definitely knock-offs.

Ben Thanh Market to Ba Chieu Market (11 Replies)
how far is it from Ben Thanh market to Ba chieu market ? and How much for taxi? THANK YOU

It's a fair way, around 4km. Taxi will cost you 80-100,000VND. Ba Chieu is well worth a visit, unlike Ben Thanh it's a proper local market & you won't see any tourists there. Some good food stalls outside too.

With this short a trip, you're trying to see too much. You're also wasting quite a bit of time with surface transportation - flying will save you time and is quite inexpensive too. Your plans to see the Mekong Delta just won't work - you'd need a helicopter to do it in that time frame! I'd concentrate on one area of Vietnam (either north or south).

Anyone heard of Ba Chieu Market? (3 Replies)
Has anyone heard of Ba Chieu Market (Cho Ba Chieu). My folks says its almost as big (if not bigger) than Ben Thanh Market. Any hotels recommendations in that area would be great?

BattyBoy, We went there twice. It is big and near the main street so the area is very crowded. We bought fruits in front of the market but didn't spend much time inside. Really can’t remember what were sold there except fabrics, household things, fresh foods, etc. I feel this market caters more to local people. I saw hotels on streets nearby. We didn’t want to stay so I didn’t take note.
