"amai Saigon” a product line characterized by trendy pastel color and irregular shape, the products retain the original rugged feel of clay. amai Saigon has splendidly harmonized the spirit of freedom and creativity – a masterful melange of East and West.

Luxury handcrafted unique ceramic !
Apr 2019 • Friends
Amai - My favourite store has a new location. A big grand building next to their old store on Xuan Thuy. If I was the owner I would now call it “Amai House” or along the lines. For those who aren’t familiar Amai is a 6 year old phenomenon which has very quickly established itself amongst the expats and locals alike. Started by 2 expat wives it is a range of handcrafted , strong and extremely light ceramics reflecting East and West in its design. It’s beauty lies in the irregular ness of its shape and the pastels colour palette. The fact that it feels rough on the itside and is glazed on the inside adds to its eclectic appeal. Being pricey it makes for very special gifts and I like to add a bit to my collection every sale. A unique non traditional vietnam product that deserves a special mention.

Colorful Vietnamese ceramics

Nice ceramics in beautiful pastel colors. Glazing not always 100%, but quite interesting shapes. The make great souvenirs, as the staff wraps them perfectly to survive any plane trip. Good value for money

Lovely ceramics and great service!

I was visiting HCMC with my mom and stumbled upon their website. After mulling over dinner, I decided to make a dash to the Amaï House at 63 Xuan Thuy Street, District 2 about 1.5 hours before closing. I suggest you give yourself a lot more time to shop not just in this store, but the other crafts and home decor stores around the area. Anyway back to this store, I was nearly having a meltdown trying to decide between the various possible combinations and how to edit the choices. All the colors were lovely, but as some colors were not or low in stock, it does make putting together an entire dining set much trickier. Also if you have a perfectionist mother who is poring over every scratch on the glaze, you need even more time to go through them. Because the underside of each piece is unglazed and they are stacked in the store, some pieces may suffer a fair bit of scratches on the glazed side.

From their website, the beauty of these pieces are undeniable. The craftsmanship is exquisite - the "imperfect" folds of the pieces are delicate and deliberate. They do feel sturdy when you are handling them (and I hope they will indeed hold up when I settle down and start using them). However what made the most impression on me was the service of the staff at this particular store. Especially this sales person - Tai. This is my love letter to him. ;)

Tai has a very pleasant disposition to begin with. He offered suggestions (good ones) when I had trouble editing my options, but was absolutely patient when I still went on and on revisiting every other choice. He was a polite and discrete shadow while we were madly flitting around the store, but was always ready to discuss whenever we needed some views. He was apologetic when he had to remind me of the closing time, but did not across as making us feel unwelcomed. Once I finalized my decision, he and his colleagues SWUNG into action - wrapping each item with paper, then loads of bubblewrap, and then test-bouncing each parcel to make sure that the ceramics were securely protected. I had no issue hauling them home (some were packed into my luggage and others, hand carried).

However as we were paying, it started pouring massively. Tai helped me through the app to book a GRAB car, and took over my phone to liaise with the driver. He also went through the details and made sure I knew how much to pay. When the car arrived, we realized that he had already told his colleague to wait around, so that they could help with our bags and shelter us with big umbrellas to the car. And he was just so nice about it all throughout!

I'm very grateful for the experience, and am blessed to have lovely memories to enjoy along with these visually stunning finds for my new home. Thanks, Tai and colleagues!

Beautiful handmade ceramics

I didn't realized they have a shop in district one too, so I traveled all the way from D1 to this place just to visit this ceramics shop.

A quaint little shop with many beautiful, colorful ceramics and kitchen stuff. Price wise is slightly on a higher side but it's well worth the price as these are all handmade items.

They have all the boxes for you if your purchase a certain number of some specific items. E.g. 6 plates but if you want a box for some mix and match items or one specific item, there is none, which I thought could be improved because there are many cute items can be bought as souvenirs for friends.

A great place for tableware

Small shop with very impressive ceramics collection. In here you can find some simple basic yet unique for your dinning table. Love the combination of the design and colors. Definitely coming back for more pieces.
