Terrible selection, no organisation

I wasn’t expecting a dewey decimal system but even some basic alphabetisation would have been nice. Instead I had to sift through every single book in the English speaking section. I went seeking either a Stephen King or a Lee Child, two of the worlds most prolific and best selling authors - to no avail. However, if you want one of 12 copies of ‘mr and mrs Smith’ then this is the place for you. After spending so long in there I felt obliged to buy a book just out of politeness - until I saw the prices! I walked out hot, tired and disappointed. 2 mins round the corner is an entire street of new and used book stalls where the staff actually look up from their phones and talk to you. I found everything I needed and more there. I love supporting small book shops but this one is undeserving of any support. Do yourself a favour and give BOA a miss...
I would upload a picture of the primitive collection of extortionate books but as with many 2nd hand stores that know they charge way too much you cannot take photos. They say a picture paints a thousand words - which is about as many as you’ll find in this “bookshop”

bad experience
Aug 2018 • Solo
Books at BOA are not cheap to begin with. An used non-fiction book is typically priced at VND 300,000-500,000 ($12-20). Their books are usually in very good to like new condition though.

I had two bad experience with BOA. They seem to favor customers with clear intention of what to buy. More often than not, I come to a bookstore without clear book target. The first time after I knocked on the door (they close the door all time), the girl came and asked me if I need anything? After I said I was just looking around, she said the store is closed. The second time is when I was in it opening several books, she told me to leave because it was near closing time (they normally open until 7pm).

It is definitely not a good bookstore. The only reason it could survive is there are not a lot of other bookstores here in Saigon.

Great variety of English-language books & great ambience
Jun 2018 • Solo
As an avid reader myself, I have had my fair share of book-cafes but BOA is still by far the best one in Vietnam to me. Offering a selective variety of thousands of English-language books, ranging from academic books to those for the layman, from nonfiction to fiction, BOA is a purveyor of not only knowledge but also moments of escapism amidst your hectic schedule.

What distinguishes BOA from many other book-cafes I have been to is not only its variety of books but also its organized structure. All the books are placed neatly according to their categories and the store itself is divided into two spaces - one with new books for purchase only and one with used books that you can both read and purchase. BOA also offers many choices of beverages. I always love to read and work while sipping my cup of coffee here. With all the books and the smell of fresh coffee hanging hot and heavy in the air, the ambience at BOA always makes it an ideal place to read, work, and study for me <3

Great bookstore - helpful staff
Dec 2017 • Couples
This quirky place has a fantastic range of English language books - staff also amazing - we were looking for a particular book and they found it and emailed us in a few hours - a quiet book nook.

Hidden Gem!

I found this bookstore after being referred to it by a friend. A little tricky to find at first, but it's great. The atmosphere is relaxing, and the staff are very friendly. There are plenty of great books here and you can order books to collect from the staff. They also offer a few drinks if you're staying to read.

Peaceful world

I found this place in 2016 by accident. The best thing I love in this store - a little store - is the way that give me comfortable feeling while reading some books.

Best book store
Nov 2016 • Solo
This is by far the best bookstore in Saigon. Such a peaceful place and the couple who own it are delightful. Full of smiles. I grew up around antiquarian books as my grandparents collect them and this isn't those types of books but it is a very beautiful collection that has a great feeling to be around. The address listed here is wrong, same building but they moved to Room C19. So glad I found Bao Bookstore, took quite a few stores before I found a good one. So glad I didn't give up.

Great place to read some books
Sep 2016 • Friends
My friend took me here for relaxation. It's a small little shop hidden inside an old apartment. A lot of English books, with a wide variety of category, from fictions to novels to business books, which would be suitable for all kinds of reader. The bookstore owner is also very friendly. You have to order a drink when you are here. The drinks are nice, but a bit pricey. I would definitely return here in the future.

Worth the search
Sep 2016 • Solo
Great little bookstore in what seems to be the owners apartment. Bit tough to find. It's moved to a different apt in same building-left side staircase as opposed to right side mentioned in earlier reviews. Great selection of mostly English and some French and Japanese books. All are in great condition and the pricing seems fair to me in light of demand being high and supply in Saigon abysmal. Worth a visit for sure.

Tiny spot to sooth the mind
Apr 2016 • Couples
It's located beside the fast food restaurant that shares the same street number. go inside the small and a little dark entrance to residence, go upstairs and follow the colorful signs. The shop is rather a small apartment piled up with books, I dont think it can bear more than 10 people. When we visited, there was a girl reading on the ground while watching the shop. She was very warm and kept offering me love fictions.... I saw young people coming and just sitting there reading, all fine, quite cool spot in the super hot city.
Most of books are in English, a few in French, Russian and Vietnamnese. If you are looking for some casual books to kill the time, it's the right place.
Last but not least, take off your shoes once you enter the shop.
