It's sometimes confusing when you ask taxi drivers but Bach Dang is the pier that is located next to the Vung Tau ferry terminal and across from Majestic. It has a nice authentic coffee shop and you can see locals doing tai chi and local gymastics or playing badminton in early mornings and youngs locals enjoying the fresh air from the river sipping drinks in the early evenings. It is a good place to find out more about tours and activities available on the river with a good selection of companies on offer with some of them operating at international service standard levels. We just love the authenticity of the place and the natural hubbub happening from all the boats coming and going.

There are several piers along the Saigon river in the center of town with the most active portion located between the Renaissance hotel and the Majestic hotel. There you will see the continuous dance like movements of the Tu Thiem ferries connecting the other side of the river (district 2 apparently) to the CBD and bringing over every few minutes hundreds of motorbikes and all sorts of vehicles. You will also see some russian type fast ferries going towards the southern coastline (Vung Tau etc) and the numerous shipping boats on the river. if you have time and the budget, this is also where you can find (the pier across from Renaissance) some private boats for charter either for a half an hour tour on the river or half day tours to Cu Chi and other places in the city. At this same place there are also some riverside restaurants/hotels starting to have some regular shuttles which make for a nice escape from the city center hubbub (when we visited there seemed to be one service in place and another one just starting).
With the river being such an important social and economic phenomenon for the city that has fallen out of fashion in recent years but is more and more getting attention this is a must do in Ho Chi Minh City!

... To various parts of the city whether it is a quick hop to go and have dinner at some of the places on the river (riverside, thao dien village, the deck, villa romaine) or explore the canals of HCMC with a sunset cruise. I recommend one company that stands out called Saigon River Express which can be found on Tripadvisor as well. There are other companies also proposing other tours like Cu Chi tunnels and some touristy things. The pier is right across from Renaissance.

Just a wonderful relatively cheap old Saigon terrace to sip beer, drink a coconut or eat ice cream while people and traffic wonder by. The ice cream is so so in quality but eh location and service are the fun thing here.

I first came here in 1998 and every visit I make an effort to enjoy the Sau Rieng smoothie and every time they look at me like a crazed foreigner. So they give me a small spoon of Durian ice cream and I go yum! And then explain I’ve been coming here for 20 years. That aside if you like durian you’ll love their Sau Rieng smoothie. Ice cold with just the right component of durian. Great on a sticky humid HCMC day.

Good selection of icecreams and desserts in a central location in Saigon. Would recommend for the first time and for ongoing visits if you are an icecreamaholic.

Good experience to try how the locals make a cold dessert. Although it was always crowded, the staff can direct customers to their seats pretty well. A tourist attraction, although most of the diners were locals

The river walk is lovely, even in the rain. Great to have a stroll down from the Statue and just spend some time watching the boats go by on the river.

The green area is relatively well-kept but watch out for slippery floors when it’s raining! I nearly had an embarrassing accident involving the splits!

It will give you local feel of Vietnam. Boats, local market with fresh fruit is good to see. The park in it is a nice place to relax. Not a major attraction of the city.
