- Carl LBirmingham, United Kingdom46 contributionsBui Vien Walking StreetWell it’s basically we’re the action is in Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon) Vietnam, a street lined with bars & restaurants & massage parlours accompanied by loud music 🎶 from different bars which makes it the party scene.. Beer is quite cheap in Vietnam & Saigon Beer is infact a good taste, there’s other beers available on the list which are worth trying, good selection of spirits available too.. ATM,s are plotted about the place which is good, and either a taxi grab bike or a taxi car are available to whisk you back home after your night out. Bui Vien walking st gets crowded with many visitors at times so it’s always best to have your goods zipped up in your pockets, the foods pretty good & presented well too. In all a colourful well lighted street & plenty of fun & laughs to be had too, Vietnamese people are friendly & accomodating & there are some good looking girls about the place to meet with. Great place to enjoy your nights out either by yourself or with a group of friends fantastic 😀Visited December 2019Traveled soloWritten January 11, 2020
- Lawrence M50 contributionsLoys of changes!I have visited Ho Chi Minh City on a large number of occasions now, and always end up going for a beer and a nosy walk along Bui Vien to see what's happening. I'm not a fan of the constant ear-attack techno battle that takes place at the top half of the street at night, nor of the constant attempts to be ushered into competing bars and restaurants. Further down things settle a bit and there are one or two very cheap bars, where the atmosphere is a bit calmer; also I notice that the bottom quarter now has quite a mixture of Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants now - I haven't tried any yet, but they always look busy. Also Bui Vien is a bit JeKyll and Hyde - by day a lot of the more raucus outlets are fairly quiet, although the hustle and bustle still goes on. It's not my favourite place to be, but it's always worth a visit out of curiosity!Visited January 2020Written January 26, 2020
- Sarah LewisHarlow, United Kingdom918 contributionsBusy busy busy !AKA walking street this place is crazy busy. Basically it’s one long street with bars, eateries and small shops either side. At night it comes alive with (very) loud music, bright neon lights, dancing, street entertainers, sellers and beggars etc. Just sit, have a drink and people watch.....it’s mad !Visited March 2020Traveled with friendsWritten March 6, 2020

An amazing variety of venues from flash bars to simple old Saigon style street bars sitting on the foot path. The more flashing lights and louder the music the more you will pay. Look for the signs Bia Saigon for 20k and that's about the money

We made a special trip to this area and unfortunately was very dissapointed. Lots of bars but so loud music !!! . Please note we are not old fuddies but at one stage my wife could not hear me speaking . Walking street - NO. You have to watch out for cars and 1000's of motor bikes. The prices in this street are expensive compared to else where , but we hit Happy hours 5 - 7 pm . After 2 hours we had enough and looked for somewhere less noisey and bright .

Don’t go there. Hassled by Restaurant staff and street hawkers , Music is way to loud, can’t conduct a conversation. Went to Hotel 96 Restaurant and were overcharged with extra drinks and different drinks from what was ordered. When pointed out the bill was wrong the owner became very nasty and aggressive demanding payment of inflated bill. Later talking to an expat said it was a common occurrence along with multiple billing.
It has fallen a long way since I was previously there Pre Covid.

The most horrifying experience ever. The “secutiry” guys push you to their bar. I was walking there with my bf and they try to push or pull you to their bar. Very crowded and really loud, my heart couldnt cope with this music competition - who plays it louder. Never ever going back…

This street is very busy, very loud and a bright party area with bars competing for customers with their very loud music, bright lights & staff trying to encourage you into their bars. It’s a mad crazy place with dancers, entertainers & hawkers trying to sell their wares. If you like to party then it’s probably the place to be, although more expensive than other places. Lots of drinking and people inhaling laughing gas from balloons so definitely not a place for children. Sad to see local children being used to sell items & trying to entertain by ‘fire breathing’.. though this was obviously not linked to the bars. I enjoyed sitting down with a beer and people watching, but once was enough!

Great night life with many clubs/bars. Hookahs available. Girl dancers are in front of each club. Most music is electronic music. Not much hip hop. Music could be really loud. Could turn down some for the virgin ears. Overall, great vibe if you're looking for some night life or hang out with close friends. Be aware of the locals who may pick pocket as you walk down the street.

Street for nightlife lol. I feel like this street is safe more than khaosan road, bangkok because of they don’t have marijuana and everything here is very cheap. I went to the hair of the dog club is good, cheap beer and shot of tequila lol. Must to visit but don’t expect too much because is not different from any nightlife in Bangkok.

I visited the area on my first night in Saigon, as I was staying just few blocks away. Honestly, I only walked half a block and I had enough. The music, or should I say noise, drove me crazy. I visited few days later during the day and it was much better. If you are older like me, the only good thing about the street are the beautiful girls, who will make you (almost) believe that they are really interested in you. There are many travel agencies located in the area, so if you planning to buy a bus ticket or small side trip, you will find it there.

A Tourist street full of bars, nothing wrong with that but each bar tries to compete with each other in terms of loud music.
In the end it is difficult to have a conversation, very cheap, happy hours everywhere and cheap food.
It was ok for one night for us , go and see for yourself.

This is Ho Chi Minh City's partying capital. A stroll along Bui Vien at night best captures its energy and sinful atmosphere. More like Pattaya than any other Vietnamese cities, this walking street is full of bars, clubs and restaurants for tourists. While it is not the ideal place to enjoy food, getting a pint here is an interesting experience.

I am also 60 plus. And prefer some nice atmosphere and cheap beer. Not noisy at least. Hard to find a pkace with acoutics music. Well head to the coffee shop with cheap beer and some nice finger food at the end if the stretch. However, be careful of con man

Can anyone advise what currency is best for bars and restaurants. $ or £ are bar prices in us dollar

While USD is accepted at quite a few places, you tend to lose out on the conversion charges. For eg. If your bill comes to a conversion of anything above USD 3 (even 3.1 or 3.2), you will have to pay USD 4. Better to pay in Dong everywhere in Vietnam.

I cannot recommend Viet Halal foods since found none very tasty.
Coffeeshops are relatively expensive even starbucks which is near crazy buffalo.
I cannot recommend and good cofffeeshops and had coffee as an instant at my hotel.
Vietnam is not a very good touristy destination within Saigon. Careful of pickpockets and snatch ang run on moped thieves. Massage theft is also common.
Bui Vien is just a street of very loud music from multiple bars competing using noise volume.
Factually I cannot recommend anything to do in Saigon other than go elsewhere such as danang or some other beach city.
Follow the Russians for a good time in Vietnam/

Where can I get a decent (clean, professional) tattoo in HCM? I’m staying in district 1
Daniel W

Sorry I do not know where in Ho Chi Minh City that can provide a professional, clean and decent tattoo. Just be mindful that Vietnam is still a third world country and many establisments such as tattoo parlors, massage parlors, beauty nails and hair do not practice proper hygiene nor are they checked and inspected by a certified Health and Safety to ensure they meet the standards. A friend of mine went to one of these establishments and wanted to have a few moles and spots removed from his face and the person was using a soldering iron. He was very lucky nothing serious happen. Just be careful and good luck!
