I was looking forward to seeing how lacquer is done because I am an artist. I came here with a shore excursion from a cruise ship. After 90 minutes on a bus from port, we stopped here and were not allowed to use the bathroom facilities (thankfully Western) until they had shown us the art presentation. They rushed through the presentation because everyone was complaining that we needed the bathroom. This meant most of our time was spent browsing the wares.

The products are beautiful and the shop is a useful place to buy if you want big furniture or artwork. If you want a small jewellery box, buy it from a street vendor at a fraction of the price.

I bought a jade bracelet. I felt pressured into the purchase because I had 5 staff members on me. One of them was writing me out a receipt while I was still trying it on before I had even decided which bracelet (if any) I wanted. When I agreed to a price for a large bracelet, one staff member quickly boxed up a smaller bracelet while another distracted me. When my husband pointed out the error, they tried to charge more for the larger bracelet but immediately went back to the first price when my husband declined in disgust. We found out later that we could have bought it on the street for a third of the price.

Still, I like the bracelet and I would not have minded so much if I had not become gravely ill from the experience. They insisted on putting cream on the bracelet while I tried it on and then they did not fully wipe off the cream. At the time, I did not worry about it because I thought the cream was just moisturizer. It turned out to be some nasty chemical concoction that was contaminated with bacteria.

I wore the bracelet for the rest of the day to keep it safe. I felt sick all day but thought the cause might have been the heat. However, I believe the cause was an infection from the cream. By the end of the day, I had what looked like an acid burn on my arm and also on my leg where my arm had rested. These wounds become very painful and more infected and spread over the next 4 days.

Finally I sought medical attention because I was not healing. The ship’s doctor gave me a strong antibiotic and this medical treatment cost me $200. I was advised that I should not drink alcohol nor go swimming until I healed. (There went my holiday fun.)

My arm healed 10 days later as I arrived back in Australia. I now have a large scar from the sore. My leg wound has turned to eczema.

I have not worn the bracelet again. I am too afraid that I would not be able to disinfect it enough to wear without a problem.

I am angry that they had no regard for my welfare and all I am to them is a walking cash machine.

Do yourself a favour - avoid purchasing jewellery at this place.

Bought a vase at USD154, which I thought was expensive but went ahead since the service personnel was pretty polite and I desperately needed a vase that size for my plants.
The packing was fantastic I must say. Brought it back home to Singapore and when I filled it with water, can u imagine the shock I had when it started to leak! (My bad for trusting them and not testing it at HCM, as I was rushing that day.)
I used silicon to minimise the leaks and the next day, another nightmare, the sides started cracking, revealing the the vase in its natural form.
Terrible 1st time experience in terms of their workmanship, despite their good customer service.
DO NOT BUY their products!

PS: Vase was definitely not damaged during journey in plane.

I spent about 40 minutes here as part of a tour. A short explanation of the process followed by some time spent in the gallery where a range of lacquerware was on display for purchase. Prices ranged from around $10 to whatever you were prepared to spend so it was a good opportunity to buy souvenirs or larger items. A 20% discount was applied to purchases. They were packed well for carrying in a suitcase and a shipping service was also offered. It was an interesting stop on the tour.

We were promised a tour of lacquer ware making but we were shown a few boards telling us about the processes. We were rushed through the production line with the only aim to get us into the showroom. Our guide was stood holding the door for the showroom while we were looking and taking photos. It was very interesting and we got some good photos as we refused to be rushed. The modern showroom was full of top quality pieces, large and small with some interesting modern designs. The quality was reflected in the prices which were high end.
My sister and I both bought small trays with hat designs on them, on opening them at home both had the same edge broken off, a design fault or not manufactured correctly? We will never know.

A very wide variety of pottery and other products. My personal favorites were the duck shell inlaid pieces. They also have jewelry and nice Vietnam made T-shirts. All seemed better quality than street/market seller stuff.

We bought 3 lacquered boxes which were sent to our hotel in Hanoi. After we got them home we noticed the coating was crumbling. I was unable to contact them by email or via the web. I have asked our tour company to investigate as it was on their itinerary.

At this factory you see all the hard work that goes into making these beautiful lacquered pieces. So much fine detail. Then you have the opportunity to buy these amazing pieces. Some of them just take your breath away

Learn the process of making exquisite lacquer ware items, then browse the showroom. The items are not cheap but the quality screams. Depends if you want a show piece or just a little something. The street vendors have lawyer boxes, they ask 5 dollars but barter down to 3. The quality is not the same but acceptable for a gift.

We visited the gallery while on a tour with Wendy Wu. The workshop was very interesting and the gallery was was full of beautiful lacquer ware.
We decided to buy two tables and paid for them to be shipped home to the UK.
Unfortunately when they arrived, one of the tables was damaged. We were rather upset as we couldn't really see how the problem could be solved from such a distance.
We emailed the company with a photo of the damage and were delighted to find that they quickly responded to us and shortly after dispatched a replacement table.
We cannot recommend them highly enough. Their staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and the whole experience has been great and we now have our beautiful lacquer tables.

Visited as part of the city tour. Had a good time observing the processes and the gallery. There are all types of souvenirs (mostly similar to the ones at Benh Thanh market and the night market), but the quality and prices (obviously!) are higher.
Not bad for a hot day out, they have a tiny stall outside the centre if you need icy drinks at a relatively cheap cost.
