interesting outing for military history and bio-environmental

It is located "across HCMC", or district 7. But will need to pass thru busy district 7, then a ferry ride, and 30 minutes ride thru low land of "water coconut" and shrimp farms, which is still quiet at the moment. The mangrove forest is beautiful, but sadly with only monkeys are wild. Monkeys are very AGRESSIVE in stealing anything you have....including hats, glasses, cameras, even toilet paper, bags, and of course, foods and water bottles. If you are not quick to keep them away, they will steal things from you. Keep things in your pockets! There are crocs in the mangrove, but behind pen. There are few birds around. Do take the boat to the resistance camp. Arrive early, so you can take advantage of high tide and spend more time at the camp. Otherwise, you can not go to the camp or get rushed thru because low tide.....avoiding getting stranded at the camp. Afterward, take a ride to the village at the end....there is good restaurant at one of the resort on the beach.....beach is muddy. Our group, 7, really enjoyed this learning experience.

Worth a visit - both mangrove with monkeys and the Viet Cong base

This thrip was advertised by the travel agency as “Monkey Island”, which is quite misleading. It’s a mangrove forest with hundreds of monkeys and with a renewed Viet Cong military base in the swamp, located ca 80km South from Ho Chi Minh (2.5 hours by car including the ferry).
Both the monkeys as well as the Viet Cong camp are well worth a visit, and the motorboat trip back to the entrance of the park makes a nice finish.
The comments here recommending not to have any food, caps and glasses are valid - our young daughter had some food with her and a monkey jumped on her and took it. We also saw a monkey with a cap stolen from somebody.
