Poor choice for New Year’s eve dinner. We had to prepay using a bank wire of $200 USD per person. We were a family of 7 ppl who were very disappointed.
The food was vile. Coupons were given to each of us for a half portion of lobster. Here were three bites in each. The beef was an 1/8 inch thick. With a bone and two inch square.
The salads and sushi buffet was minimal. Not worth the money.

The rooftop bar is famous for daily news reports during the Vietnam war, and so has a lot of history to it.
It overlooks central Saigon streets in a great spot and is setup classically and looks lovely.
Similar in some ways to the classic Raffles long bar in Singapore but much less expensive (around $20 for the signature cocktails).
Live music playing in the corner near the crown, super professional service and a very big range of customer types all blended together.
Try their signature five o’clock follies cocktail, sounds a bit strange but is really delicious, a must try for Saigon visitors!

Really disappointing experience. It was highly recommended from a friend. Poor service, inconsistent cocktails (a couple were good, some were undrinkable). We were stalked by an employee who then scammed us (hovered way too comfortably close by, listening to conversation and spying). He over charged us $400,000 dong and tried to make us pay a million dong over what was quoted on our bill. Horrible morals and you don’t expect this kind of treatment at a 5 star hotel. Would not mind paying western prices at this kind of establishment however you expect impeccable service and amazing drinks.

Recently visited here and although we got a table by the edge because of the 'boundary' configuration my husband had no real view. Asked for drinks and food menu. Ordered two cocktails and we both not sure they actually had alcohol in them. Wanted to order food but vould not seem to get anyone to serve us with staff returning to our table when we had nearly finished our drinks so just decided to pay and leave. Very expensive for a poor experience.

Nice location with lots of room between tables and Staff where friendly and service fast. Stopped for drinks only but food was available. Great to find a place with great wine, a breeze and a great view

My girlfriend and I are American tourists and we were intrigued by the history of the Rex Hotel and its role in the Vietnam War. We also happened to be hungry so we figured--"Why not go get dinner and drinks at the Rooftop Bar!?"
Here's why not: the prices are astronomical and the food and service is mediocre at best.
It is impossible to exaggerate how overpriced the menu at the Rooftop Bar is. You pay more for one drink ($~15) than you would three meals at a reasonably priced restaurant in Ho Chi Minh city. I've lived in New York, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., and I'd have a hard time finding a restaurant as casual as the Rex that would charge $15 for a Gin and Tonic in any of those cities.
The only reason we did end up ordering is because we thought "Wow, the prices are so high, this place must be amazing!" and "Wow, people on TripAdvisor seem to like this place a lot!" How wrong we were...
All told we spent about $100 for an atrocious experience. I don't even want to get in to the corny music they blast all evening, the inattentive service, or the fact that the place is totally remodeled and looks NOTHING like it did in the 1960s (instead it feels like a kitschy Disney World exhibit), but I implore you to not spend a single dollar/dong here.
Instead, take your camera and go up to the bar. Look at the view, snap a few photos to tell your family and friends that you visited the historic Rex, and walk out gleeful with the knowledge that you didn't waste your time or money at what feels like a giant hoax.

This place really irks me. And I get so annoyed when seeing places like this. Four of us all walked in. We wanted coffee and coke. And beer. We got the menu and the shock of it. It was so expensive for a beer. And coke. And coffee. We shut the menu and all walked out. Not because we are cheap. I am a multi millionaire. My friend had $10,000 USD in his pocket. But you don't keep that sort of wealth for very long, by handing it over to legalised thiefs. What irks me is the hide of the CEO's of these companies, who think they can charge these prices, on their overpriced salaries, while they rip off their Vietnamese staff paying them disgraceful wages. My bet would be that the staff there are on less than what a coke costs at that rooftop bar. So disgusted I would not ever stay at the Rex hotel out of principal now. We went across the woad to the caravelle roof top bar and had much more reasonably priced drinks and great entertainment. We were actually laughing as we walked out, at the ridiculousness of the prices. A complete joke.

View ok, go upstairs, see the view and leave. Cocktails were 3 times the price of good quality restaurants. Drinks were $25 for two drinks

It’s difficult to find any positives for this review. Negatives. Unwelcoming , unfriendly staff, poor quality food, poor value for money, lack of atmosphere, poor quality decoration.
Positives. It’s better than nothing if arriving late and staying at the hotel. Watching the resident mouse scurry around provided the entertainment
The Rex burger was very poor and for the quality expensive. Would not recommend.

On our last evening in HCMC, we ate here. We were staying at The Rex, and, with an early flight the next morning, we decided to "eat In". The meal was fine, but not as exciting as some of our other VN dining experiences. The real joys of this place were the ambience, the view, the drinks, and the history. I very much enjoyed being where the war correspondents drank and commiserated about the futility of the war.
