Air conditioning! Good handicrafts and quality souvenirs
Feb 2020
We were disappointed with Ben Thanh market - the goods for sale seemed very "same same" and touristy. It was so hot, with narrow walkways, we didn't last long. So doing some research we decided to get a taxi to China town to give this market a go and I'm glad we did! Despite reports online, there is airconditioning being put in the market (up to level 2) which makes a huge difference. The sellers are pretty relaxed and don't hassle you, which I like. I thought the goods for sale were more "genuine" like I saw when I visited Vietnam 10 years ago. We brought colourful bamboo placemats, lovely bamboo salad servers, embroidered ladies purses/clutches, bookmarks etc. We had a lovely lady seller and we were happy with our purchases. There are the usual shoes, clothing etc on the ground floor, and if you sew, lots of material to buy. There are food stalls downstairs but as we were getting on a flight the next day, decided not to chance it. I just bought some nuts - and was done out of some change, the first time this had happened in our 2 week travels in Vietnam (except for HCMH airport taxi drivers who do try to bung on extra charges - just pay the large number on the meter!).

Interesting but didn't buy much
Jul 2019
Visited in July with my two teen sons. As mentioned in another review, this market seems to be for more Vietmanese people buying wholesale and then scootering off the products to elsewhere. We did however buy socks and had a wonderful lunch at from a stall at the back of the food market stalls inside on the ground floor. Wonderful tasting fresh dishes. No prices on the menu so was a pleasant surprise when we asked for the bill to find beef and noodles, etc were just NZ$2

Relatively empty market
Jun 2019 • Friends
Went to An Dong Market on a Saturday and found out that it was about to close and was relatively empty with less than 5 stalls open. Very dissappointing and underwhelming trip there.

Worth A Visit
May 2019 • Couples
More of a wholesale market but managed to get a gift for a friend at a reasoable price after some negotiation. 3 levels mainly clothing but watches souvenirs and a bit of a mix. Stall holders were less aggressive trying to sell or didnt bother at all.

Great Produce
Mar 2019 • Couples
Good market to look at all the different types of produce on offer. Its hard to realize how many different things are used in making such great food. Interesting market, not touristy.

Not really for tourist shopping
Apr 2019 • Couples
Although it is often advertised as a tourist market, An Dong is more of a retail distribution centre.

The food market on the bottom floor caters to locals and tourists alike, but most of the stock on other floors is where suppliers come to get their clothing, jewellery etc for resale. It was more of a packing/distributing warehouse so unless you know how to speak a bit of vietnamese in order to negotiate, it is not only hard to buy but you also feel like you are in the way.

Pretty good for what it offers
Mar 2019 • Couples
Food at the food court was great. I had a mixed rice noodle and I am happy man after eating it.

My wife however, wandered around and bought some accessories for her and her friend. She is happy afterwards too. :)

Food court and the food section of the market is not air conditioned but the rest of the structure is. We went there around 2pm on Tuesday and there were not that many people.

Regarding pricing and overpriced comment:
1. It is Vietnam and the price level is very low here.
2. We are not the type that we have to negotiate every single penny out of each item we buy.
3. As a result we are happy to let the shop make some money as long as they take our counter offer once.
4. The products are still very cheap at the end.

Plenty to buy here
Feb 2019 • Friends
Big place with clothes, accessories, souvenirs and food at the ground floor. Plenty of dried foods available, too, at reasonable prices. Definitely somewhere to go to for your shopping needs.

Reasonably priced dried foods
Feb 2019 • Couples
Walkways are narrow. Dried foods can be found at the basement floor. The price indicated are negotiable, we managed to buy cashew nuts at 250k/kg. Also, do try the dried coconut, it taste nicer than it looks. Overall, a good place to visit if you want to buy dried foods.

Workers were rude and overpriced
Jan 2019 • Family
Most items here are overpriced. The staff in a lot of places are also very rude. Was just laying my hand on their clothes rack and started yelling at me in Vietnamese so I told them to calm down in English. That didn’t stop them from giving us the death stare. Would much prefer Ben Thành market where everyone is much nicer and prices are high at first but then they always negotiate lower. An dong market won’t care at all.
