My girlfriend and I sat on their plastic chairs outside the bar. We drank Saigon green beer which are 20,000 VND per bottle, which is quite good considering the area it’s in. It’s a great place for people watching and seeing street performers such as the fire breathers etc. Worth a visit for cheap beers if in District 1.

Fresh beer and people watching

This tiny little place on an bustling road is awesome. Freshly brewed local beer 10,000 dong for tankard, and they serve until it runs out. You sit on tiny plastic chairs in the street, crowded by other drinkers and the street life all around, and just soak up the essence of HCMC. It looks dodgy but order food too (I recommend the spring rolls) to absorb some beer, or buy from one of the many street vendors passing by. Beer hoi!

Cheap beer

What this place has going for it is cheap beer and interesting people. We had the Bia Hoi, and it's fine, but nothing special - just cheap! Worth trying while you're in Vietnam.

cheap beers in a friendly location

This place is as cheap as it comes. Although it gets a bit crammed i enjoyed a few hours speaking to friendly new people, locals, natives and travellers alike whilst drinking 12,000 dong Saigon beer. Located in the middle of a lively backpacker area adds to the character and atmosphere. Have your wits about you though as people are constantly coming by trying to sell stuff and beg.

A great place to hook up with TEFL teachers and other long term expats.

Yes, Grandma is still alive and her two assistants sometimes crack a smile— like when the owners of the bar next door, 100, were beating the hell out of their teenage daughter with broomsticks in full view of everybody at 7pm one night. Really horrible to witness; and to hear the screams . The lady at 102 Bui Vien smiled at this . Everyday event? Jeez! Other than that; this seems to be a hangout for TEFL teachers; lucky them. I've got the 180 hrs. cert, but not the degree, which, officially you need. Hmm. Other than that, the beers are still the same price as last year — 8000 VND glass, 12000 bottle Saigon Green. A great spot to talk to, sometimes, absolutely fascinating people that will blow you away with their worldly knowledge. And I thought that I was wise. Ha!

Cheap beer and a great place to meet new people as the tables and chairs are packed together.

The toilets are horrific as you'd expect but you come here for the beer and crack. Enjoy!

Smiling Grandma and friendly locals

Stopped at this street bar because seats were available and lots of waving from the customers and staff.As stated in other reviews Grandma supervises from about midnight-pointing to empty seats and making sure you get your order.Its popular with locals and tourists.You'll get to learn some Vietnamese/teach English and pick useful info.Hot freshly cooked food is available from the alleyway stallholder.Bia Saigoon is 12,000 Dong or less depending on nightly competition among the bars on Bui Vien.Shorts and shot price vary 6,00 upwards.Stays open till daylight depending on selling alcohol.Stay long time and watch the fun on Bui Vien.

Street life and beer

Just big impresion. Sitting on the street and watching the around. Very cheap beer, no problem in the morning. If you want to feel the city street life, best place to go to for beer and chat.

Bia Hoi Saigon style

This is bia hoi, Saigon style. Plastic chairs with fresh draught beer make this place very similar to its Northern friends. Food is available, which the bar owner appears get from a stall from round the corner. All quite tasty with no adverse effects. Good selection of locals make the place fun if you feel like conversing. Otherwise this bar delivers fresh beer at 6000 Dong a go (August '14) - what's not to like!
