I am very surprised to have read all the reviews and nobody has mentioned that the cheapest beer is over 200K vnd. Which makes it the single most expensive beer that I have had anywhere in the world. Sure, the music is good, but it's not that good. Also, there is no "bar" or designated dancing area. There are only tables and an empty area about as wide as a hallway between the tables and the stage. I was by myself, and the general layout of the place makes it difficult, if not impossible, to meet anyone. The music was good, but not worth the outrageous price for beer.

I went with two friends who wanted to go. House band plays reasonable imitation covers of well known songs and as is commonplace in Vietnam, has a revolving roster of singers. I ordered a Corona (180,000 VND), which came with the mandatory wedge of lime. Except the lime wedge had been dipped in salt, the taste of which unfortunately I discovered after the wedge had been pushed into the bottle. I asked for a replacement beer - which caused the barman to become really loud and aggressive. The claim by the barman, was that's the way they served the beer at Carmens. Rather than just accept a mistake had been made, replace the beer, and keep the customer happy, they decided to keep ramping up the argument and make it ugly - with a view to squashing the customer to resignation. Who puts salt in beer? Never again. Not recommended. There are much better places to discover in Ho Chi Minh and which provide a more authentic and welcoming experience.

Went to Carmen with my wife to celebrate my birthday and do something a bit different. The place was virtually full at 9.10pm when we arrived, so if you want to go aim for 8.45ish to get a table. Three different acts, who I would rate on the whole as ok. I liked the first (female) singer the best but she only did 30 minutes at most. Others were quirky and alright.

I live and work in Vietnam (but not in Saigon) and for me the prices here were just too high. The cheapest beer (333) was 120,000 VND - normal bar price where I live is 20 - 30,000 . We had 2 cocktails which cost 400,000 VND including tax. Most of the customers seemed to be Vietnamese and everyone seemed to have one drink and make it last as long as possible. If they reduced prices to something approaching a reasonable level then I'm sure that people would stay longer, drink a bit more and have more fun. As an example, we watched another band in a bar the following night, paid 60,000 VND per drink and were happy to stay much longer.

We had a wonderful time at Carmen bar. The music was amazing. They had 3 different singers performing with the house band the night we went. All were very very good. Lots of good energy here. Drinks were really good also. I highly recommend this bar!!

I have been to Carmen twice and about to take 4 more friends who haven't been there before ! It's a great night out !! And for those of you who keep moaning about the price of beer! Try a London club !! It would make your nose bleed! You get at Carmen what you pay for !! A great night out!

I have been going to Carmen regularly over the last few years. It doesnt really differ on any given night. The set up is unique, like entering a cave! High stools around wine barrels, mostly the people are tightly squashed in. Can get smoky. There are seats upstairs, although you can hear, you cant see, and watching the act is half the fun. The musicians and singers put there all in, with a bit of flamenco, a bit of showmanship, bit of flirtation with the audience. The drinks are western prices. The staff are attentive. The evening doesnt vary much, great for tourists, will be the same performers and sets with a few requests thrown in. Some fantastic percussionist, and Etan does a great set.. If you like Eagles "hotel California" Carmen is the place to request it!

We went here as part of a Vespa tour, no idea what to expect. We passed through a hobbit door (if you have been, you understand) and emerged into what seemed a different dimension. There were 3 singers performing and I was utterly blown away by the first singer... trouble was it only got better, there was a lady whom they referred to as Ms Victoria from Cuba, I could have listened to her perform all night, she was just that good. If you have a chance, go you will not regret it.

It's really amazing night to spend, they start the I've music shows at 9 and for few hours, they have very good band and auditions I liked it very much, there's no food to serve just few dry snakes so if you're up to dinner then have prior to drop by, the only concern is that this bar is really over priced. I loved it :-)

We go to Carmen Bar around once per month on average but are always given a table tucked away in the corner to the right of the stage. We always have one or two bottles of wine. This Saturday we got there early and there were lots of seat available. We wanted a seat at the back wall in the centre of the stage. The staff were very rude and said that was reserved. We couple only sit at a table again to the right of the stage in the corner. Not only do I not believe the table and others were all reserved, it was also the attitude of the staff that really annoyed me. We walked out and will not return or recommend it to anyone again. Further, after writing a message to their Facebook, I received the following reply. That sums up my experience.
