My buddy and I visited Ho Chi Minh City and were interested to sign up for both the Cu Chi Tunnels & Mekong Delta tours, and we found this tour that has the best of both via getyourguide.com!

Both our guide Phong (pronounced as Fong), and the driver, was punctual in picking us up right at our hotel lobby at 7am sharp. And due to the low peak season, my buddy and I had the honor of a personalised tour just the two of us!

Phong was humourous, friendly and accommodating throughout the trip, where he tried his best to explain to us everything to his best of his ability in English, and indeed we had lots of fun!

This tour is definitely recommended! :D

We were only spending a day in Ho Chi Minh City thanks to a planning glitch and found that it was quite difficult to find an tour company that did both the Cu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta cruise in one shot.

We came across Elegant getyourguide.com (brilliant site btw) and booked a private tour. It set us back close to $200 (US) but was worth it. We had a private car which meant that we weren't sharing air space with dozens of other tourists onboard cramped buses and a private guide, Phong (at least that's how I think he spells his name) whose enthusiasm was infectious.

The tour was well organized and Phong shared plenty of insights into life in HCM City, which was nice. We had lunch at one of the touristy restaurants on the Mekong Delta and the set menu wasn't too bad although a fresh water fish allergy left me hungrier than I should have been.

TIP: the stops after lunch to the coconut candy factory and whatnot are a waste of time. You'd be better off asking them to take you straight to the backwater canoe ride

I chose Elegant Travel because they would allow my three year old son to attend the Mekong tour but they did recommended a private tour which worked out great. Other companies had a minimum age of 7.

The night before the tour I was contacted by the company to verify that there were no changes to our tour which was great.

The morning of the tour I was met by Lam in hotel lobby at scheduled time. We were escorted to private clean SUV. We were given water and chips for two hour drive then we were off to the Mekong Delta We arrived to the boat terminal and were escorted to our private motorized boat and our tour of Mekong began. First stop was coconut farm, we saw the candy making process and could purchase items if you chose. I purchased some of the coconut candies for home. Next was a buggy ride pull by a horse which was cute and the kids enjoyed. Next on the agenda was tasting of local fruit, honey tea and listen to local musicians. Singing was okay. I enjoyed fruit and tea but kids were not interested. Next was a ride on row boat which was enjoyable but hot. They did offer hats for sun coverage. Next we went back on our private motorized boat for short trip on the river to our lunch stop. Before lunch, kids had opportunity to feed alligators for fifty cent which they really enjoyed. Lunch was simple but yummy and good portion. FYI- Sodas were extra but less than a dollar a piece. Lunch was fried springs rolls, Spring rolls made at table with fried fish and soup with veggies and fried pork. I enjoyed the food but my kids were not interested. After lunch then it was back to boat for the trip back to main pier. It rained on the way back but our guide had a umbrella which offered some protection against rain. Back to car for return trip to Ho Chi Minh. The return trip only took about one hour which was good.

Recommendations:

Bring small bills for tipping
Bring umbrella for rainy season

Overall I enjoyed trip and would recommend. At times I had hard time understanding what Lam was saying but she was still great. She was very helpful with the kids.

After reading the fantastic reviews on here of the 1 day Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong delta tour I knew this was something we had to do whilst in Ho Chi Minh. The tour was very expensive, around £70 each but I guess that's because we were in high season.
We were met by our guide at the reception of our hotel - this is great that they come and collect you. It turned out we were the only people booked on the tour that day so essentially had a private tour.
It became apparent very quickly that our guide did not speak much English. We began the trip by driving for about 1.5hours to get to the Cu Chi tunnels, which our guide slept for most of the journey. There was no titbits of information on Vietnam or what we were about to see etc... Just silence. When he did speak it was about himself and his background (degree in English apparently) and he liked to make jokes about us being on our honeymoon. On the way we stopped at the craft centre where disabled people make arts and crafts... This is great that people have the opportunity for a career, however it was just awkward. We were rushed around the workshop by an angry lady and then followed around the HUGE shop by another member of staff. Unfortunately we couldn't buy anything due to luggage restrictions.
Once we arrived at the tunnels it wasn't too busy which was great. Our guide took us quickly around the site, taking any shortcuts where possible and missing bits out. The language barrier became an issue as he could not even answer out question "how were the tunnels built". We left the tunnels feeling really deflated and that we hadn't learnt anything. It was embarrassing watching all the other groups of tourists with their enthusiastic guides going into lots of detail...
After another 2 hour drive (again guide slept the whole way) we reached the port for the boats to the Mekong delta islands. This part of the trip was much better, our guide was originally from the area so had more knowledge and enthusiasm about the things we were seeing. First stop was lunch which was great, the restaurant very busy with groups of tourists. We then moved to the next island where you get taken round various bits. This was ok, the boat trip along one of the canals really made the trip. The guide made sure he kept reminding us to tip EVERYONE so we spent a fortune buying things and giving tips. This was irritating and totally unnecessary, again putting a downer on our trip.
We were then driven back 1.5hours to the hotel (guide slept again...).
There is a lot of driving in this trip, which is fine but hopefully will have a guide that wants to engage in conversation and knows some bits about the local area. If you have small children that get bored easily don't go on this trip.
Overall our experience was disappointing and just plain awkward. Your money would probably be better spent elsewhere

Fantastic holiday. Private transfers to all destinations, loved everything about this holiday and elegant travel, so organised, would defiantly book with them again.

Tien (Tony) was our guide for the day. He was exceptionally knowledgable of the Vietnamese history. Answered all our questions and had random fun facts that he threw around when we passed certain areas. The tour was full on with plenty to do and see. Food was awesome! Great experience overall. We would definitely recommend this.

We dealt with Bryn at Elegant Travel and Tours for our two week holiday in Vietnam. Like one of your other reviewers I too had read the previous reviews. They were completely unfounded. From start to finish our holiday was first class. We traveled to Hanoi from Gatwick with Vietnam airlines. We had upgraded to Premium Economy but were upgraded again to Business Class. All our flights were with Vietnam airlines and we experienced every class of travel, all were great. All our transfers were there to meet us, everything worked like clockwork. The tours and the guides provided were also excellent. The hotels were good, all very central, clean and the staff efficient and friendly. One outstanding hotel was the Sunrise at Hoi An, this was great as we had six nights here in a deluxe sea view room. Our original itinerary was for the Essence and Spa, I hadn't noticed the change until just before we left. We had also met some fellow Elegant travelers in Hue who had just left the Essence & Spa and they were raving about it so, it was with a bit of trepidation that we arrived the Sunrise. We had worried needlessly, it was superb.

The icing on the cake - this holiday was excellent value for money. We will certainly use Elegant Travel again. Thank you Bryn.

My husband and I went on this tour in September 2017 when we were visiting Vietnam and we were not disappointed! In fact, it was much better than we even expected. I was worried about how much time we would get at the tunnels & the delta since we were fitting them all in in one day but we had plenty of time at each and got to see so much! Phong, our tour guide, was the best! He was so knowledgeable and really fun to spend the day with. Our driver, Hi, was also really friendly and made sure we got everywhere safely. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see both the tunnels & mekong but on a limited schedule.

We booked a four centre two-week holiday in Vietnam with Elegant Travel & Tours. (Bryn was the consultant we spoke to )

This package included UK-Vietnam return flights, two internal flights, plus three day-tours and all transfers.

After booking we noticed some reviews of this company dating from 2012 that were very poor. This caused us a bit of concern, especially when the holiday paperwork had no mention of Airline / hotel reference numbers which we have been given with other travel companies in the past. There was also a minor error on our itinerary - which we resolved after some phone calls. This did not give us a lot of confidence that the holiday was going to go smoothly.

We were worrying needlessly. From start to finish the holiday went like clockwork with all flights, hotels, transfers and tours faultless.

This holiday was very good value for money, all the hard work of choosing suitable locations to visit - and the necessary transfers, was taken care of.

We also met several other couples on similar tours with this company who were a pleasure to travel with.

We would recommend this company and will almost certainly be using them for future holidays.

Thank you to Bryn for organising a wonderful Vietnam tours holiday. Everything went like clockwork and we were picked up and dropped off to and from each airport promptly and were telephoned or given a message at each hotel informing us of pick up times for any tours or airport transfers. We did 3 internal flights as well as Gatwick to Hanoi and Hoi Chi Min to Gatwick. Vietnam airways used were excellent and when someone took my husbands luggage by mistake they were very professional and took all the details and got his bag to us within an hour of arriving at our hotel. The hotels were all well appointed and excellent quality. Excellent value for money. Couldn't fault it. We will definitely use this company again and recommend to friends and family.
