The Heritage Line Mekong River Cruise exceeded our (high) expectations in every respect. From the exquisite furnishings to the outstanding staff, every aspect was thoughtfully appointed. Every person was genuinely warm, considerate, anticipating our every need.
The ship was spotless and all the meals were innovative and delicious! The cruise itinerary was carefully structured to give authentic insights into Vietnamese and Cambodian culture and history.
If you enjoy five-star luxury, you’ll love this Cruise with Heritage Line.

We cruised on the Mekong Princess. The staff were amazing led by Eric. The whole ship is luxurious with your every need attended to. The excursions allow you to visit the real Vietnam and Cambodia as well as providing two days in Phnom Penh. We were fortunate that Eric slightly adjusted the schedule so we could arrive in Phnom Penh on Dec 31 evening to witness incredible fireworks and ring in 2024!

From the moment you set foot on the boat, the crew works tirelessly to ensure you are pampered. From the dining staff that quickly learns your name to a top notch spa, every effort is made to ensure you have the best possible experience.

The bar offers attentive staff and an excellent bartender with daily signature drinks. Meals are extensive buffets for breakfast and lunch, but if you fancy a burger and fries, the staff is also happy to oblige. Dinner is a full four course menu accompanied by hand-selected wines from around the world. As one with food allergies, I was impressed with the care the chef took to ensure I could try many dishes that were prepared just for me to accommodate my needs.

Among the activities offered, we were particularly impressed with the way the cruise line supports local artisans. The craftsmen we visited were local families that benefited from the commerce- no pressure at all to buy anything, but there were many tempting opportunities. The Mekong Princess does support the local villages and people and they provide support for an orphanage, where the kids perform onboard one night. There is a sense of commitment to the region and giving back that pervades all the activities and made us feel good.

Overall, I can provide my highest possible recommendation for the Mekong Princess cruise on the Mekong river. This trip combines luxury with real life excursions. Eric runs the cruise like a well-oiled machine and the staff are incredible. This is definitely a bucket list experience for anyone seeking to tick Southeast Asia off their list! Even if you have been before, this trip offers unprecedented activities. This was an incredible way to kick off 2024!

I took a river cruise up the Mekong River on the Mekong Princess. Fabulous boat, not too large with a guest capacity of 28. The crew were absolutely fantastic and the short land trips were extremely interesting, well escorted and with a first aid person in attendance just in case things didn't go well. May is probably not the best time to go as it was very hot, but other times did not suit my calendar. Decor, food, cleanliness etc on the boat absolutely top notch. Thoroughly recommended

My 29 year old son and I (a 67 year old mom) found this 7 day trip to be way too long. I regretted it almost instantly. The shore excursions were interesting but we generally ended up spending way too much time on a boat with people who were pleasant enough, but not what we wanted at all. I came to Southeast Asia to be with Asians, not a bunch of Germans, Aussies and British. Maybe cruising is just not suitable for my temperment. It was with great relief that we left the tour in Siem Reap and had a fabulous, self determined trip in Laos, to Hanoi, other cities and back to Ho Chi Minh City for our remaining 3 weeks. We regretted wasting valuable time, (not to speak of money!) on that cruise and not being able to visit Da Lat. Lesson learned.

Mekong River Cruises

We absolutely loved the cruise, the boat and the food. We had the ship almost to ourselves (one other family), so most of the time it felt like we were alone on the ship. We embarked in Can Tho and cruised along the river enjoying the view (it was hot! In the sun) saw a small village and had a short trip in sampan. Okay, embarking and disembarking was not fun, as we had to walk the plank. Seriously, I wish I had a picture, the crew laid out a plank leading to the shore, meaning it was 10 m. down to the river, and held a pole that you could hold onto. On the way back, the guide asked the local ferry to dock at the boat and it was a lot less hair-raising. (We heard it was low tide, this might have made it more "adventurous".
We really liked that the guide gave us the days program on arrival and several times and reminded us of times, we would have liked a bit more information when we visited the farm, but we liked the excursions, that we did not have to stay too long or felt pressured to buy anything.
The staff were very willing and quick when we asked for something, the ship was not fully staffed, but that was fine. We asked to have dinner outside and that was no problem. We also liked the water supplied, it was not in plastic bottles and could be refilled.

Mekong Princess is the ultimate experience and always try them first in case they have availability. Superb food and wonderful kind crew where nothing was too much trouble. Being a small cruise ship with only 24 guests they were able to visit small villages and provide canoes through bamboo or mangrove groves. They support orphanages and schools where we were welcomed with much charm. Never had a better cruise.

Viking Tours gave me a wonderful tour of Vietnam, Ankor Wat and Cambodia. Everything was AAA first class from the tour guide to the food on the ship.
No complaints whatsoever.
The Mekong river is huge and impressive.
That area of the world is a mega rice producer. Fascinating Juxtaposition between the cities, madly under new construction and the small villages and the people that live in the villages.

The Scenic Spirit is a new ship built in 2016 and only has 34 guest cabins (64 passengers). This we found very attractive as we did not want anything that would give us a crowded and “rushed” feeling. Well we were not disappointed.
The whole experience from booking our trip, meeting the cruise group at the hotel at the point of origin (in our case Ho Chi Minh city) and then the bus trip to the ship ran like clockwork. Their attention to the smallest detail is amazing. At the hotel, you are identified, split into three manageable groups, introduced to your tour directors ( who stay with you during the entire cruise) and then have your bags checked and taken to the ship separately. We were then taken for lunch and then off in buses for the 2 hour journey to the Scenic Spirit. You are greeted by the captain and met on board by the rest of the crew. Your bags are already in room at this point.
This ship is incredibly clean and beautiful. The rooms are stunning, the crew are delightful and very personable and the food is outstanding . The pool at the back of the ship is incredible . This ship even has real trees growing on it !
The shore excursions that you select at time of booking are really well done and do not disappoint. You truly get the sense of “local living” during the shore excursions. The excursions are with each of the three tour guides and again run like clockwork. You are provided with a small receiver and ear piece so that the tour director can talk to you easily. This allows greater freedom of movement without having to bunch up in an attempt to listen. When returning to the ship, we were always met with cold drinks and cold towels for a quick refresh. Again, their attention to detail was outstanding. The butlers are excellent and ours in particular made us feel like royalty.
When we finished the cruise segment of our journey we were really sad to say goodbye to the ship and to the lovely crew, but we were not finished as we were then taken to Siem Reap for the Angkor Wat and temple tours. This again did not disappoint. We stayed at the Park Hyatt Hotel which is outstanding. The temple tours are amazing and for us, the crowning moment for the whole trip was the farewell gala dinner held at one of the temples. The incredible dances, music, lighting of the temple and the seating for the meal was incredible. The food was excellent. It was a hauntingly beautiful and rich experience to finish off our amazing cruise

I can heap praise on every aspect of this cruise! Amazing tour guides! Amazing staff, so much to do, delicious food, utmost service and a simple, but lovely ship! We probably had about 90 people on our cruise and 17 of them were friends. We all agreed that learning about the region and its people was a fantastic experience. It was adventuresome and educational while feeling just a "smidge" luxurious.

Food at Chef's table was continental and very good. Overall, the food was great with so many fresh fruits and vegetables and traditional dishes. But burgers and fries and western Omelettes were available too. Cocktails from local spirits included. Wine with dinner included. From the fresh, warm croissants at 6:00AM with espresso to the multiple dinner choices and the delicious "action station", every consumption need was met. Spa was great too, expensive for Viet Nam/Cambodia prices, but MUCH LESS than western prices.

Rooms were light and bright with plenty of space. Even though it was a heat wave in a hot region, the temp was always comfortable.

Yoga on the deck, cooking classes, karaoke and the TV was loaded with regional educational programs and movies from the region. never bored.

The cruise manager, Thanh, was extremely attentive to every detail. The entire staff was exemplary! And the guides--amazing! They were well-spoken and care so much about the region. They made us feel like we were doing something good for the world by spending time and money there. We loved the excursions, especially, the school visit, Evergreen Island and the Tri-Shaw was especially stimulating. Upon return to the ship we were greeted with cold, scented towels and a cool drink Cold beer or whatever you desire, was just around the corner.

We are all grateful for this wonderful experience.

Only negative was pathetic WiFi. However, there's a lot to be said about being "unplugged" for a week.

This was a 7 night cruise on the AMADARA river cruise ship. This has to be the most amazing river cruise that I have sailed on. What a beautiful luxury ship. All wooden floors all throughout, incredible food with Asian and Western menus every day. We had a suite with a very spacious stateroom. The staff was amazing, always greeted you by your name and with a smile. Hate to disembark and leave behind this amazing experience.
