Stumbled on this place during a one day stroll in HCMC. I highly recomend. Fantastic cocktails, great atmosphere, good service. Good whiskey. A charming, appropriatly dark, small and cozy whiskey bar on a side street. If you find yourself in that neighborhood and you like a good cocktail step on in.

Quite a hidden gem, located right by a narrow street just couple of blocks away from the main night life district. Watch out for sign as one could easily miss this place. Recommended by one of the LGBT traveler blog, I don't find this place fit into gay establishment but this bar is definitely gay-friendly. The bar owner also happen to attend the bar the night I visited, very friendly and easy going. I am very impressed that Ho Chi Minh hosts several independent breweries that produce fine craft beers. Nearly all carried by this bar. I'm from Malaysia, I consider the drink price very reasonable. p/s - I refrained to call it cheap because the word implying a bad connotation.

Huge whisky menu, you have craft beer too. The perfect place if you want to escape the crowded bars. Excellent music (you can pick yours upstairs). The owner its an amazing guy with a great life story to tell. For sure will come back again. Thank you!!!

The place was magnificent. I'm only rating this 4 stars as the owner (Derek), a congenial and candid dude, told me that he only takes 2 - 4 star reviews seriously. It merits 5. There's a lovely vibe in the place, it's in a great location just off the beaten path from the melee, and the drinks are lovely, particularly the tamarind whiskey sour.

If you're reading this review, that means you're probably already in Ho Chi Minh City, scrolling online for a nearby place to grab a drink. Put down the phone and make your way to Whiskey and Wares. It's not a place with loud music and $3 nitrous balloons; it's a place to get a really great cocktail or craft beers. It's a great places to start your night before you head down to backpacker's road, and it's also a great place to end your night after a nice meal. Honestly, if you like whiskey, this is a great place under any circumstances. I was in Vietnam as part of a 16-day trip around Asia, and we ended up staying right down the street from this place. We finally made our way in, and we loved it. Top-notch drinks and service in a tidy little room. If for some reason I'm ever in Ho Chi Minh again (which is doubtful, but still), I will 100% make it a priority to get back to Whiskey and Wares.

This is second time I come here, the beers are great, the place is a little bit small, if not crowded is good, if too many people inside is too noise.

We came here because we knew it was LGBTI friendly (please note, it’s not a gay bar - it’s just welcoming).
Derek and his crew totally looked after our group. Incredible cocktails. Awesome mix of expats who were up for a chat.
Couldn’t recommend it enough - especially for travelers or expats looking for a quality whiskey or cocktail and a chat. 👍

I admire the selection of whiskeys they have. It's cool that this shop gets their friends to buy duty free and keep them stocked.
However, when some of my friends asked for our mixed drinks separated (e.g. serve the coke can on the side), they charged a more for it -- when most other spirits houses in town don't.
More annoyingly, one of my mates who's a bartender noticed they were being cheap with their pours, and refusing to use their measuring shots to ensure a full serving was given.
We're almost better off on Bui Vien -- a hop, skip and a jump away.
Now we buy our own alcohol and have others come to our place for proper pours.
