Be very careful in Saigon, I have travelled all over S E Asia & its the worst, amputees begging at your dinner table, street sellers that will not take no for an answer, I also had a male & female duo befriend me while I was having a quiet beer and came up with a hard luck story about the orphanage where he helps out etc he needs a new tooth blah blah do I want to take his sister back to my room ? etc this all built up to try and get a hundred dollars out of me, I got the hell out of that bar sharpish.

Great city, Superb Vibe. Done forget to get your coffee, it perks you up. The Thanh Bahn (hopefully i got the spelling right) market is second to the Saigon Market.

Be careful of the taxi drivers & people selling food at the roadside. Some of the taxi drivers are very cunning & tend to steal your money by distracting your attention inside the taxi. For example, they will suddenly say that they do not have small change to pay the airport’s exit toll & suddenly grab your wallet & help you to count the money. Then he will start to distract your focus by moving the right hand on top of the car roof but actually his left hand is holding some of your notes. After a while he will drop you at the roadside & ask other taxi drivers to fetch you by giving various excuses ie hungry or need to fetch kids. They tend to mark up their street food’s price to much higher price than they sell to the locals. So be extra vigilant & wary when dealing or bargaining with them. Try to keep calm & count how much does the thing actually costs in your own currency as their Vietnamese dong is rather confusing ie 10 thousand & 100 thousand dong looks fairly similar if you do not see properly. Please be extra cautious with the Vietnamese locals!!

Full of energy. Buzzing, day and night. Has a bit of something, for everyone. Might not be as pretty as some cities, but has a great vibe. Not to be missed if in Far East.

Saigon is a very interesting city. The people are generally friendly and there are loads to see and do. The food is great and there is also plenty of variety at affordable prices. It is very hot though so a hat will not go amiss. Also, watch out for scams and be careful of those offering to take pictures and engage in conversation only to try and flog you things at ridiculous rates.

Interesting city, has it all, hot and crowded ... you can find anything here from local foods, markets, shooing centers, big office buildings, all types of restaurants.... and a city where if you want to cross the street you “mingle” with the traffic

In total we spent five weeks in HCMC, for us it was absolutely amazing, we loved the chaotic craziness of district one, however, we were staying at the Tresor tower/building in D4 for a little peace (as peaceful as HCMC can be) located just across Cau Mong (Rainbow Bridge), see review.

Two things that really helped our stay, was having our own apartment (Airbnb) and using Grab (asian uber), all bookings done on the app, location and destination is precise and a big plus you know what you are going to pay up front, and no money has to change hands, all done via the app

Our favourite place for lunch was Bahnmi Express Uptown - The chicken & sour cream roll is superb (much better than it sounds), see review. mostly we loved just walking the streets taking it all in, much has been written about scams and personal conduct (dress and bearing), we find if you just keep your hands in your pockets so to speak, and keeps your wits about you, all will be well and all will have a wonderful experience

Saigon the old name as well as thanh pho ho chi minh its present name recall many histories in our mind. The nanes of the streets were already familiar before we ever set footbthere. Its beauty radiates in s e asia with its fast pulse yet unique styke, the paris of the orient. Shine on you crazy diamond

That afternoon we decided to rediscover our city. Starting from a visit at Dragon Wharf or Hochiminh Museum, then strolling back to district 1 through the Mong Bridge, of one my favourite bridge in Saigon. The walk was absolutely pleasant and entertaining. Watching people doing exercise on the this bank of the river, while others were fishing. I wasn't patient enough to wait till anybody could catch a fish. Otherwise, it could answer my question whether any fishes were living there.
Beautiful stairs brought you up to the bridge with a real nice view of the city where the old magnific buildings blending with modern ones, that I always wish the city would do more rather than tearing down all the history.
From the middle of the bridge, more view and actions to absorb. Even though, there are sign of not swimming in the river, those kids just enjoyed themselves in the water, playing with the floating stuff. It enhanced my belief that happiness doesn't take much.
From there, you can end your wander at Rogue Saigon Craft beer just few minutes away.
Isn't life beautiful!

This is a city that surprised me... It's so developed and clean.. Lots of high rise buildings and a beautiful charm of its own.. now known Ho chi minh city and to me it doesn't show much of any damage. When people including myself think of Saigon. We think was and where the war was fought but I'm really in awe as to how beautiful it is and nothing here looks like a city torn by war. The people are really friendly also and business is thriving..

Definite must visit
