Wow. This tour was absolutely amazing. We met the 2 young enthusiastic guides at 5:30 in the morning to cycle in and around Hanoi. The girls told us all about the city and (their) life in Vietnam. It was very nice having a longer conversation and getting to know them. A great way of learning about the Vietnamese culture beyond what you see and read.

Experiencing the city slowly waking up is fascinating. We started when it was pitch black and experienced sunrise, the raising of the flag, workouts in the park, laughing yoga on the square and much more.

The best part for us was getting off the Long Bien Bridge into the Banana forest. Here we met a local worker who could tell us more about life on the outskirts of Hanoi. The girls translated for us. This was not part of the organised tour, but just happened and that was wonderful!

Getting around Hanoi by bike in the morning is fine, because it is much quieter. A good way of getting more comfortable when the traffic picks up. However, if you are unfamiliar with cycling in general, maybe opt for a walking tour instead...

This enchanting experience was unforgettable.

If you live in Hanoi or by chance travel to this city, you should definitely book this tour once. I never had such an amazing feeling when riding around the city in early morning to enjoy the hidden beauty of Hanoi. It set my soul in calm..

The Hanoi Free Bike Tour is an initiative organised by a green organisation named BOOvironment. Instead of walking around in Hanoi, some group of university students will show you what Hanoi is all about via cycling and braving through the streets of Hanoi.

Meeting point was at the Hanoi Creative City - an interesting building with a tiny skateboard rink and hipster graffiti where all youth activities are held. The tour lasts 3 - 4 hours and usually starts really early in the morning (5am or 6am) to enable 'newbies on the road' like us to enjoy some peace, quiet, and ease of cycling before throngs of citizens hit the road to go to work and traffic goes bonkers.

We had three bubbly and cheerful girls accompanied us (Rose, Thuy & Huong) on our tour, and they were well-versed in English and were knowledgeable in the history of Hanoi. They were a lovely bunch who even went all out of their way to help us call a cab after our tour finished. We were appalled and touched that two of them even had an exam in the afternoon and that they came out in the morning to bring us around, with so much genuineness at that.

Mastering the art of crossing the roads aside, the bike tour is definitely an eye-opening experience to be able to blend in with the Hanoi community to experience their daily morning rituals and we will not hesitate to do it again if we're back in Hanoi!

We booked this tour based on experiences of similar tours in other countries and other reviews. The students who turned up had a fantastic attitude and were very keen to help however the bikes available were basically unusable especially for tall Westerners like me and my partner due to their small size which meant even with the seat column fully extended it was way too low. Even to adjust the seat was a problem as there was no spanner available or means of inflating the tyres. Also the brakes hardly worked at all and the steering was wobbly. Considering the hectic and perilous nature of traffic in Hanoi going out on such bikes was definitely not going to be enjoyable and possibly could have been life threatening!
This was a pity as the students attitude could not be commended more highly and also it is hard to criticise something which is free but it is not a functioning tour in my opinion given the equipment and services available.

Even though we booked literally at the last minute, Hanoi free bike tour was able to organise a tour within the next day and it was amazing!
The volunteers are super friendly, they will take you all around Hanoi and even do a detour if there is something in particular you would like to see.
We had a great time chatting, drinking egg coffees, cycling around and eating delicious food!
It is by far the best way to discover Hanoi and get to see all the different tourist attractions as well as the "off the beaten track" areas. And it's free!!!

We made a free bike ride in the early morning organized by Students of the University. we were group A and it's was fantastic. The students were very nice and learning us how families lives and survive by making rice noodles, carving wood, making boats. We had discussions about al. I will recommend this trip and a big applause for this organization.

Aside from being essentially free, I found this tour very enjoyable and informative. We moved along at a pace that didn't feel too rushed or too slow, and journeyed to more places that I expected to for a free tour. It's definitely worth the time.

While the guides were not paid, they did collect a small sum of money to give to the locals that opened their businesses and homes to us, as well as to cover ferry fare.

I used not to get up early in the morning but i think i will change this habit into waking up early until i join in this tour in which the tour guides showed me the beautiful scene, fresh air of Hanoi. it is quite different from the others time in daylight. the thing i interested most is humans activities such as dance, aerobic, jogging,.. Moreover, tour guides are friendly, informative and funny.
