There are lots of art galleries in Hanoi but not all sell quality paintings ( I am trying to be polite ).Apricot represents some marvelous painters. We bought such a painting 20 years ago and don't miss the gallery when we are in Hanoi.

During a tour of North and South Vietnam my guide insisted we make a stop at the Apricot Gallery in Hanoi so I reluctantly went in. It is a large multi-story structure and I was very impressed by a particular local artist Bui Huu Hung, who works with organic lacquer on wood. There were monumental in size and beautiful. I was very nicely surprise and ended up purchasing two of his works once I returned home. Without the guide, I wouldn't have gone in and I would've missed a wonderful opportunity to enjoy beautiful art.

We were looking for local art pieces and were served by a very knowledgable Ms Huong (I hope I spelled her name right). She speaks good English and was able to explain the art pieces to us. We were drawn to a few and finally decided on a landscape painting by Bui Van Hoan. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and we'll definitely return again.

The gallery itself looks rather tired but it is packed with good art pieces. Compared to the air-conditioned and rather trendy Green Palm, the Apricot Gallery has more exclusive pieces available.

Well, what can I say? Here we are in Hanoi, doing the rounds of the recommended "fine art" galleries with money to spend.

The staff in Apricot Gallery completely stonewalled us. Didn't even bother to look up from their phones.

Rude rude rude!!

They're doing a great job of NOT selling anything.

Shame really, as there was a nice Phong I would have bought if they had bothered to show any interest.

Don't waste your time in this place.

We had picked out apricot gallery to look at in our search for local art. We noticed a vast difference from other places that we dropped into - we didn't feel as welcome and more of an inconvenience. After a quick look at everything, we left to spend our time elsewhere.

We decided to visit the gallery based on a recommendation for local art. The building / internal space is huge (3-4 floors of artwork) - mainly all local - and all of high quality. Seemed to range from $500-$10,000 - so not cheap but the gallery is professional and upscale. Service was relaxed and no pressure - if wanting to buy this would be recommended.

Popped to see the selection on offer and was delighted to be remembered by Ms Tui, whom we haven't seen for about 10 years. The gallery is undergoing renovation, but this did not detract from the excellent works on sale. Sadly the two pieces I liked were around the USD60k level, and I would need to build a house with walls tall enough to hang one of them.

Despite that, for serious art collectors, Apricot is the place to go, the location slightly lost in amongst other shops on Hang Bong.
