A few shoe shops - not a lot and two of the larger ones were owned by the same people…saw the same salespersons and asked…some choices for running shoes (my guess is they were made in Vietnam) and not everything had lots of sizes. Am fortunately a small 37 hence did not leave totally disappointed. Price was fair considering - not a high end brand hence probably just made in the country.
I think if you know what kind of shoe you want and aren’t too fussy about a particular brand you could find what you want at a decent price. Not much bargaining possible - as I mentioned there were not that many different shops .

Ok for a short visit and walk about. Nothing special and lots of shops and folks looking to make deals. If you need something to buy fine, but is it worth the visit otherwise

Literally the shoes or sneakers heaven of Hanoi for the go-getters, there are plenty of designs and stores to choose from. Be sure to have a good bargain as initial prices are pretty hyped. I got myself a Nike flykite racer and it feels like the ones you can get from shopping mall but at a much cheaper price. Cheers

I had a great experience shopping for sports shoes in Hanoi recently. In the "shoe streets" of the Old Quarter with bartering I purchased 2 pairs of ladies nike and a pair of mens converse for $42.00 Aud. I am very happy with the quality of all shoes. The converse were a present for my adult son & his first comment was, "they are the real thing." I highly recommend shopping in Hang Dau and all the shoe streets in the Old Quarter.

If you are after shoes, this is the place to buy them. I am always apprehensive in buying shoes overseas, as in are they the real deal or 'rip-offs' Regardless of if the real deal or rip-offs, I have bought running/sport shoes in Hang Dau street on three separate occasions and in all honesty they last me just as long as the shoes I buy in Australia for 4 times the cost. I think they are good value, no less comfortable and there is plenty of choice. I do advise to shop around, the shop keepers are good at pressuring you to buy but look around first. Pricing is much of a muchness but the variety varies from shop to shop, and the more you look the more confusing it is re the selection and the decision of which pair to buy. Invariably this, for me means the purchase of two or more pairs!!

This is one of the streets in the Old Quarter with hundreds of shoe sellers lining both sides. Most of the shoes are branded rejects made in Vietnamese factories and sold for a fraction of the price.

I am arriving for my first time to Hanoi in 2 days time and I´ve got some information about places selling leather products.
My question is : Where Do you recommend me to buy "good" quality bags ?. (perhaps between US$ 100 to US$ 150 each)

Wear light, and bring dongs! Dodge motorbikes and start bargaining!!! I guarantee you will walk away a happy person and the end of the night. Oh! There are plenty of food along the way especially if you visit on Friday, Saturday and Sunday! The area around Hang Dau Street and around Hoi Kiem Lake becomes 1 huge no car zone with food, activities and peddlers. Highly recommended for anyone who needs to buy stuff!

It is similar to most other streets in the Old Quarter but less interesting and sopecilaised in selling cheap shoes. You can probably skip this one and not be disappointed.

Hang Dau Street, at the north end of Hoan Diem Lake, is closed to traffic at about 6:00 p.m. on weekends, and converted to a walking street night market. Great variety of items; something for everybody! Lots of tempting snacks to sample too! Bargain hard! Watch your wallet and bag to guard against the occasional pickpocket!
