Hanoi Airport Taxi
3.5
About
To transfer from Noi Bai airport to the hotel in Hanoi center, it takes almost 45 minutes to one hour and the fact is that there are various transportation services, including public taxis, minibus and public buses. However, to avoid some problems such as the hustle on public buses or long waiting time for minibus and spam taxi with overcharge phenomena; to save time and money.

We had 3 bicycles to take with us wasn’t a problem for a driver. Driver charged us a bit too much but I think we weren’t first.

Taxi operators in Hanoi are notoriously corrupt - we were confronted (and dead tired) on leaving the train station and were hounded into a pre-agreed price to get some 1.5 km to the hotel. The price started at 200,000 dong ($9 US) then 150,000, 100,000, and finally we agreed 70,000 just to get rid of the problem. This was still extortionate but at the end of the day (literally) we just wanted a bed. The authorities REALLY should get this problem resolved or the tourism industry will suffer. Then, aiming for the Airport Shuttle bus (at 1 Quang Trung, Hanoi) to Noi Bai airport, we were hassled (right outside the office!) by a taxi driver purporting to be the shuttle and giving us erroneous times - so go INTO the office. You may not actually be handed a ticket (more backhanders) but you won't be charged any more and you will get there in 3/4 hr or so. The official shuttle leaves on the hour every hour for 40,000 dong (locals pay 14,000) - see the accompanying timetable pic as I have seen a huge variety of quoted times.

Make Sure They uSe the Meter
Aug 2016 • Family
Taxis in Hanoi are generally pretty honest, but it varies. From the airport, many taxis will offer a set fare. Guess what? It's more than the metered fare! They wouldn't do it otherwise. Just insist on the meter. Same rule applies all over Hanoi. Most are honest. Some will try to get a fixed fare. As an expat, it seems that most of the scams happen if they think they can get away with it and maybe if you are a woman (My wife seems to be scammed more often). It sometimes feels like they are taking the long route, but generally they don't. It may be that they are trying to avoid traffic. If in doubt, get a cheap Vietnamese sim card and check the route on Google Maps. I think the best taxis are the white and purple ABC and the worst are the Hanoi Tourist, red and white ones. The green Mah Linh taxis are also good. Hanoi Tourist are much more expensive and the cars are usually filthy. ABC are owner operated. But I use all the taxis in Hanoi and have never been ripped off after living here for a year. If you know you have been scammed, just don't pay the full fare. I have had useless taxi drivers who didn't know what they were doing and I take 20 per cent off the fare. They may make a show of anger but they will then back down.

Such a scam. Really ruined our day.
INSIST on the taxameter, even if the driver swears at you and drives like a madman to scare the heck out of you.
It got worse than that for us... he left us at a dark corner in a random street and didn't help us with the luggage.
But we paid 380000D instead of 650000D.

Metered taxi only
Sep 2015 • Friends
We took 2 taxi from Hanoi airport to Old Quarter. The first taxi charge by mileage where it only costs 35,000 VND and the driver dropped us in front of the hotel. Whereas the other taxi told us the charge of 50,000 VND half way through and we insisted on using the meter but he refused. During one of the traffic light stop where we bumped into the other taxi, he was trying to convince the other taxi to charge 50,000 VND. When we reached the hotel area, he refused to stop in front of the hotel, he drop us 200m away from the hotel and he shortchanged us. He said the balance is his tips!!!! So please request metered taxi before you board.

It was a short distance to get home!!Should only cost 60-80,000vnd the taxi driver drove around the block at least twice...tried to charge 120,000. Just not the point, when you pay half the night before. Be careful when using taxi's in Vietnam 😊 ps DONT USE "HANOI" taxi's.....

We took the airport taxi to and from during our tenure in Hanoi. On the way into the city, all times coming into Ha like we had to assist with the toll tax. On the way to the airport however all times, we did not.

The rides however were flawless!
