We had prepaid for Hanoi’s Foodie-Designed 10 Tastings Tour with a Local for Jan. 21, 2020. Our booking # was 763181458. We asked our concierge the day before to confirm the tour for us because two different addresses were listed on the confirmation for the meeting point. The phone number listed for “Withlocals” was not a valid number. The concierge then called the number for the guide assigned to us. He finally got a hold of her, and she told him she wasn’t our guide, but told him which was the correct meeting point. We went to that place and waited 20 minutes before our guide did come; she was at the other address. Our guide, Hoa, was great. She spoke English very well and was very knowledgeable. Hoa was a lot of fun to be with and we highly recommend her. This tour would have been a “5” if we had been given the correct info.

My personal favorite activity that we did in Hanoi was the knife making workshop that we did with David. In my opinion it's a criminally underrated experience among all the travel guides in Vietnam! Our tour guide David was very friendly and communicative (and his English is excellent!), and was able to adjust the workshop time for us to accommodate our itinerary. My friend and I ended up in a group of four tourists total, and we spent a little over three hours crafting knives from start to finish. You can pay an extra 250,000 VND to upgrade to a larger chef's knife (I believe mine was about 25cm). The blade is made from carbon steel, so it is very durable, hard, and easy to sharpen.
It felt so rewarding as we were involved in each step of the process, from carving the handles to forging the blades ourselves (with the help of the expert Da Sy blacksmiths of course). We took a break in the middle while waiting for the blacksmiths to help us grind our blades, and David took us around the village for a bit; he also brought us cold drinks and cut mango during our break! I also ended up purchasing another knife that was crafted by one of the blacksmiths for 100,000 VND--the quality and the price is just unbeatable. This is the coolest souvenir that I'm bringing home from Vietnam and I 100% would recommend this workshop to anyone who visits Hanoi!

We were in Vietnam in January 2020. Our guide for the Hanoi Street Food Walking Tour was David who met us at our hotel and took us on a personalised tour of Vietnamese cuisine in the old part of Hanoi. We started at the Café Dinh where we had an egg coffee which, we were informed, was invented here in 1946. It was a great way to start as we went from venue to venue sampling a wonderful variety of beautifully prepared food. David was an excellent guide with a passion for the street cuisine of Hanoi. He was very knowledgeable and we had a nice variety of dishes. We also felt comfortable that the restaurants and eating places he selected were compatible with our 'delicate' western tummies. No trip to Vietnam would be complete without this particular tour which was, in our view, a real highlight. We would recommend it as essential to get a full appreciation of the culture of Hanoi.

I spent a great afternoon making myself a beautiful mask. It was very authentic. The guide listened to my request on booking the class in the afternoon, instead of in the morning and I finally had a private class with the teacher (the father in the family who inherited grandpa's skills). I was happy to make the process of creating a mask, and painting one (not same due to dry time). Also, the guide gave me some street food advice and took me close to my hotel, when the class finished. Overall happy and glad I took the workshop.

My sister and I have done the Vietnamese Calligraphy Class and enjoyed it very much!! Andrei (the organiser) was really friendly, funny and professional and the calligraphy master Linh was so knowledgable and passionate about calligraphy & painting. We learned about the history of Vietnamese calligraphy, basic strokes and the alphabet. In the end, the master wrote our wishes on a beautiful hanging scroll paper which we could take home. The location was in a very hidden, cute cafe with a small community of artists gathering there and painting together. Highly recommend it if you want to do something more artistic and relaxing!

This was a great way to sample the different street food in the Old Quarter, and to take in the sights and learn a little about the city. We went to 5 places all were excellent and very cheap.
Our tour guide was fantastic very friendly, fun, organized, and knowledgeable.
A great way to see the city and sample the food.
I’d highly recommend the tour.

We had a wonderful food tour with our guide John- Considering, we had booked the tour on the first day of our Hanoi trip- it was also very helpful for us to know where we could get delicious food right off the bat! John ensured that our trip was fun and educational and we had a blast seeing the French quarters with him! We would recommend this tour to everyone who wants to get the local flavour of French quarters :)

We was two couples booked the weird food tour - it was at bit scary, but really interesting and actually most of the food was tasting and something we would never have ordered by ourselves. David was at great guide, informative about the cultures background and our endless questions about Vietnamese life.
We highly recommend this tour around the old quarter of Hanoi.
The exact tasting or menu - you will see😉

The Hanoi Ultimate Street Food Tour was so much fun and so delicious! David is a very knowledgeable guide and we learned a lot from him throughout the evening. I think we had seven or eight courses, all in different locations, many of them places we never would have found on our own. Highly recommended!

Learning how to make a knife is an excellent way to spend a morning. This tour took us over to the knife making district on the south edge of Hanoi. The guide was friendly, knowledgeable and responsive via WhatsApp. The knife is by far the sharpest knife in my kitchen. Recommend.

Hi everyone!
Could you please tell me how I and my friends can sign in for the calligraphy course here in Hanoi? Is there a link to a site or should we drop by in a shop? Any way works for us, just let us know which one is available!
Best wishes,
Sergi
