We spent considerable time trying to locate a store that had laquerware and figurines that were better than Vanloi's, and we couldn't find anything. We stopped at several stores near our hotel, the Sheraton, and also at stores enroute to Ha Long Bay. Vanloi's selection and quality for what we were looking for, at least, were unmatched. The prices were not crazy expensive, either. Vanloi sells a lot of beautiful laquerware trays, decorative boxes and containers, and figures, mostly wood, some ceramic, as well as fantastic large furniture pieces--wardrobes, chests, and so on, all very nicely made. I see the other review that mentioned shipping issues. Vanloi actually helped us assemble a large box, which then fit into another box (double box, a good idea!), and we packed everything carefully and checked the box as second luggage on our return flights home; the two airlines we used, SIA and Asiana, had no issue with it. If I ever went back to Vietnam, I would definitely shop Vanloi. In fact, we are going to order some items from them because we wish we'd bought more.

This store definitely stands out on Hang Gai street as one of the only furniture stores. The quality and looks of the furniture is quite appealing and prices were certainly reasonable as well. I purchased four pieces of furniture to be shipped overseas and then pretty much everything that could go wrong did. Shoppers should be clear as to what shipping costs the company charges as we were hit with considerable port charges. Moreover, the furniture was not wrapped properly and by the time it was delivered, it showed considerable water damage and even the quality of some of the "repairs" was rather suspect. Most unfortunate was Vanloi's attitude and their willingness to help which pretty much stopped after they told us they have been in the business a long time and know what they are doing. Awesome. A real tragedy given how nice the furniture could have looked.
