This was an absolutely incredible experience. From start to finish Thuy and her associates went above and beyond to make us comfortable. Thuy arranged everything for us. She made sure we had the best seats on the overnight bus, she made sure taxis picked us up in front of our AIRBNB’s on time, she even spoke with the taxi drivers for us to make sure we were getting to the correct places on time. All the experiences she arranged for us were so much fun. Our home stays were so clean and comfortable. The best experience was by far the Ha Giang motorcycle tour. Our guide Lee was one of the kindest people I have ever met. We were completely taken care of this entire time. From meals to home stays and really fun experiences. I’m so, so, so glad we went with Ocean Tours. I will never forget this experience. I will cherish these memories forever, and it’s all thanks to Thuy and Ocean Tours. This was worth every dollar we spent. Do yourself a favor and book them now!

We booked over the internet, as we wanted to do the tour on the next day and our arrival was scheduled for late night. When I asked a question via email, I got an immidiate reply on WhatsApp. The pick up and drop off from Hanoi to Halong was in a very good van and therefore quite fast. Only 2,5 hours and short 20 min break. We booked the 3 day/2Night 4 Star Victory Cruise. So after arrival in Halong, everything was managed by the crew of Victory Star Cruises. We were really happy with this tour.

They just send me there without hearing my needs. They do the maximum to pay the minimum. The boat was 2 stars maximum and not clean. The water in Island you will sleep is dirty. You can complain, they don't care

Transport and food was good. But I didn't get to experience the caves during kayaking (which was on itinerary) and I was placed in a very noisy dorm - lights weren't switched off until 1am so didn't catch any sleep first night. Upgraded me for the second night which was kind.

I would not recommend going on the Halong Bay Cocktail Cruise, together with four other friends I did the 3 days, two nights one with a private island on Cat Ong Island. The first day started quite hectic, we had to change transportation modes a countless number of times. At no point were we informed on how long we were waiting for the next ride or boat or what was happening. We did not get any information about the tour and we were mostly left clueless. Finally we arrived on the cruise, where we got some tea as welcome drink, but not a cocktail. This tour was called a cocktail cruise and at no point did we receive a free cocktail, or were the cocktails very attractive or reasonably priced to order one. The lunch was okay, but not with a lot of options if you for instance do not like the squid. More importantly, the lunch was not filling enough to make sure you make it to dinner, bring snacks. Also one girl was left on the boat for the night, because she did not know that all the others booked a room in a dorm on the private island. When she tried to ask if she could come with the rest of the group, she was not allowed to and the crew did not really help in finding a solution. We were left on the cruise to do our own thing and were prohibited to bring our own drinks other than drinking water, otherwise we would be fined. After this we swimming with a smaller boat and that was nice, but again on the cruise no information about Halong Bay. When we arrived on the island, it was not necessarily a 'private island'. The bunk beds were not that clean and left stains on all our clothes. Warm water is only a few times a day and air conditioning is also turned on a few hours in the night, which is understandable because there is not a lot of power on the island. The dinner was okay, but I really disliked how the staff there was quite unfriendly and pressured us into buying alcohol. They have an happy hour where you can buy 3 cocktails and pay for two (one cocktail being 6 USD), make sure to bring enough cash because you can't pay by credit card on the island! Also the cocktails were not really good. They would also throw a big coolbox of beers at us, encouraging us to drink it, whilst the staff was counting how much we drank to charge us. I honestly did not like the way we were pressured to buy drinks and made me want to drink even less. They did make a campfire that night for us which was nice at the beach. The second day we were left on our own. The group of one night left and we were literally left without a guide on the island. We had a nice time because we requested two hikes and we went kayaking, but nothing was offered on initiated by the staff there that barely spoke English. It was nice that we were with the five of us, but if I would be alone I would really not feel very comfortable. We had two hikes planned, and non of the hikes were accompanied by a guide. They gave us vague directions and as a result we did not see one viewpoint. Also, make sure to cover yourselves, because of the mosquitoes and a lot of plants that will leave your skin itching for days. The other hike to sunset beach was nice, but also without a guide and whilst we ran into a local that was burning plants, he also asked where our guide was and shaked his head when we said we did not have any. Overall, the hikes of the paths are not well maintained and would not recommend to do them without proper hiking shoes. Also if it is rainy, it gets more slippery, I would not recommend to do the hike at all. You pay quite a lot for an extra day where they only provide you with food and that is it. Also the new group did not get a bonfire this evening. The last day we went on a hike to Cat Ba National Park. It were a lot of stairs and climbing to the top, again with no context or explanation. The stairs were also quite dangerous at times and not really well maintained, thus wear good hiking shoes. After this there was a lunch. Our guide left with our bus and were left in the middle of nowhere, trusting that a bus will get us half an hour later. Even though the tour is less party then maybe the other tours offered to Halong Bay, I would not recommend doing this cocktail cruise. The price is not worth it and no where you will get a free cocktails. I would recommend opting for the Hideaways or Castaways tours instead, you will pay a similar price in the end because at no point are there drinks , soda or alcoholic, included. It was nice because were with a group and we enjoyed the nature and made the best of it ourselves, but this was definitely not because of our guide or how it was organised by the organisation.
