Best thing I did in Hanoi, enjoyed the pick up on the back of motorcycle, and enjoyed tasting the different tasty vietnamese dishes in the old quarter. Went back to revisit some of the places we went to before leaving Hanoi, and returning back from Halong Bay, food was so tasty and memorable didnt compare to the restaurants. Thoroughly recommend doing, do it the first night you arrive . …

We spent a half day on the home cooking class with our instructor Lily during our stay in Hanoi. We opted to add the hotel pickup and transfer to the facility "by cyclo" before we really knew what that meant - it added a bit of fun to the start of our day, although it wasn't really the highlight. We enjoyed the short bicycle ride to the market and the detailed tour with our instructor. Lily was just incredible as our guide and instructor. In addition to speaking English perfectly and being both a great cook and patient instructor, she has a kind of curiosity and openness to travelers that was very welcoming and comfortable for all of us. If I'd needed to manage as many different aspects of the kitchen and menu as she did, I'd have been testy and edgy, but she warmly kept everyone engaged and included. And the results were delicious! She'd very flexibly chosen a menu that interested each of us, and when I mentioned a dish I'd wanted to try but missed out on at a restaurant, she quietly added that in (someone else cooked it but i got to eat it) to the lunch. We're blessed with many very authentic and delicious Vietnamese restaurants near our home, but everyone in the family agreed that the vietnamese crepe/pancakes we made with Lily's careful guidance were by far the most delicious we'd ever had. She thoughtfully offered to provide the recipes for later so we could focus on what we were doing immediately without needing to make careful notes, and now we're eager to try the recipes again. The spot where the class is given is a lovely riverside location so the lunch we sat down to in the end was both delicious and totally pleasant.…

Lam was great. We had a fun time, occasionally going in circles, but trying so much food in hidden and unexpected locations, that without his help we would never experience. The spring roll cook was literally on the street. But Lam assured us the rolls are purchased from her by top hotels. They were scrumptious. You can safely skip a course or two, if you don't like the food, and still feel well fed. Here is our list: each may be different for example there may be more veggies. 1. Fried spring rolls - 21 hang be street 2+3. Green papaya salad with beef jerky and Tapioca dumpling - 23 ho hoan kiem street 4. Rice pancake - 14 B bao khanh street 5. Chicken noodle salad - 21 hang chi alley 6. Bun cha - 12 Dinh liet street 7. Banh mi - 14 hang buom 8. Shizzling pancake - 76 nguyen huu huan 9. Sticky rice with coconut ice cream - 95 hang bac street. In addition, he went above and beyond by getting an egg coffee from the original cafe that invented the drink. We got water and some beers as necessary. It took about 3.5 hours, but every minute was fun. Saw home some homes are woven into the tightest spaces- see picture of a you boy getting up his staircase. Highly recommend. …

We had a fantastic morning with this cooking class. Anna was a bright and energetic instructor which made the experience even better. The venue is so relaxing with views over the river and her lesson and help with buying meat and veg from the local market was really fun. The food was beautiful and we'd recommend this tour for sure.…

The home cooking class was conducted at a homestay with a large kitchen and outdoor dining area with gorgeous views by the river. I joined a group of 5 other ladies. We were picked up in city and driven 15min to a suburb of Hanoi which was more residential and thus lot less busy, which made our bike ride to the local market a breeze. The highlight of the trip was the local market experience, where we shopped and bargained in Vietnamese, helped along by a phrase sheet provided to us! Back at the homestay, the kitchen staff helped to wash and prepare the ingredients we bought, so all we had to do was chop and cook the food. Everything was very well coordinated despite dishes being decided spontaneously by the group at the beginning of the class. A great way to spend half a day outside of the hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter for a "close to local" experience!…
