You will want to check this place out before you succumb to the cheaper prices and qualities of the many souvenir shops that sell bamboo lacquer ware in the Old Quarter

there are many lacquer shops in Hanoi but Marena has a more interesting range of shapes and colours than most. Prices aren't bad a 30cm tray around US$18

Marena is the perfect small shop that every traveller wishes to find. I loved their lacquerware, elegant and refined.

I have rated this with 1/5 as it has moved from Nha Chung Street, after walking up and down it several times, and inquiring at nearby premises; no one had heard of it. Back at the hotel later I asked the concierge to ring the shop's number, which they did. The person answering the phone confirmed they had moved, but could not advise where to, or indeed whether they had reopened. Difficult to find good quality lacquerware in Hanoi, and now even more difficult!
