Lan Ha Bay was just stunning! Weather let us down a bit, but thanks to Hanoi Ecotour we had a wonderful trip!
I contacted David via WhatsApp to arrange our private tour. We didn’t want it do any activities, just cruise around Lan Ha Bay to enjoy the stunning scenery. David understood this completely and arranged our itinerary, and he did this within 48 hours!! Prices are as per Hanoi Eco Tour website. We paid £159 for the private afternoon tour 1-4pm (though the trip was longer than this, we arrived back at about 4:30 pm)
Itinerary:
12.55: Our guide and the taxi pick up from your hotel then take a short drive to Beo Pier.
Wait a moment to get the ticket. Then take a sharing boat with otherrs (for half an hour) then onto our private boat (small one) to cruise less touristy route to explore Lan Ha Bay (sightseeing) that most of the boats dont go.
(no activities planned, just sightseeing)
What to see : One Floating village near the mainland, limestone mountains, fish farms along the way (passing by)
4pm : Get back the mainland and take short drive of 10 minutes to the hotel. Tour ends.
Our guide for the day was called Ba, and whilst his English wasn’t perfect, he was a lovely guy who gave us an excellent tour, leaving us to enjoy the scenery with occasional snippets of information.
If you want a private tour away from the crowds, I would highly recommend this very organised company!!

We booked two tours with this company - Ninh Binh day tour and 3 day 2 night Bai Tu Long Bay boat Tour.
Ninh Binh day tour - We chose the private tour and had a large SUV type vehicle with a private guide and driver. Pick up was from central Hanoi hotel at 0720 hours. We traveled to the Ninh Binh area which took around 1 hr 40m, visited the old temple in the area, from here we went for a 3 hours boat tour around the limestone mountains. Then on to a local restaurant for goat (which is a famous delicacy for the area)
, veggy options available.
From here we went up the Mua Cave view point (500 steps), awesome views across the rice fields and a farther.
Then we 1 hour bike tour around Tam Coc, which was magical. We cycled through the streets and through the countryside, being able to stop as and when we liked to take in the sights.
We returned to the hotel about 1800 hours, so a full day where we were able to choose what we wanted to do.
Our tour guide for the day (Than) was very knowledgeable, and the driver was very amenable, suggesting different places to visit and offering places to stop off.
3 day 2 night Bai Tu Long Bay boat Tour - Pick up and private transfer from a central Hanoi Hotel. This was on a 4 cabin boat with on 6 other guests. Again we opted for a private transfer from our hotel in Hanoi to Ha Long Bay where we were checked in.
Boat was very nice, typical wooden junk type boat with a large bedroom and large bathroom. Very clean and tidy. While on board the food was delicious, multiple courses offered at each sitting. Plenty of seafood including squid and prawns, however, they do offer alternatives should not like this.
While on the boat we got to swim in the ocean, kayak and had a BBQ on a private beach which was all set up by the staff from the boat itself.
Both trips were organised by Hanoi Eco Tour to our specification, and David was always on hand to answer any questions which we had. This includes last minute changes to hotel pick up locations and even a change of itinerary from ourselves.
I would definitely book through Hanoi Eco Tours again, should we revisit the area. They are a very trustworthy company.

We actually had a custom day tour created to explore Ho Chi Minh City! We have a custom 3 day itinerary planned for the north, so when I was a bit overwhelmed by how to approach exploring HCM in the south, I reached out to David and he organised a day tour for us with a local guide named Hang.
We had a marvellous time on our tour. Hang had great English, and our tour car had great comfy seats and air conditioning. We explored a wide range of sites across districts 1, 3, 5 and 10. Some were more touristy (Reunification Palace, ChinaTown, Burning Monk, etc) whilst others were completely off the beaten track (the oldest apartments in HCM, Spy House, local wet market, etc). Hang gave us heaps of information and context on every place, and we were able to explore at our own pace.
Lunch was at Home Saigon, and was really delicious. David made sure to accommodate my husband's dietary requirements in our set menu. The fish with sweet sauce was to die for!
Overall, a great experience. I look forward to my 3 day tour in March with David in Hanoi!!!!

We had an outstanding time in Halong Bay. David planned and timed our activities perfectly so we could fully enjoy the beauty of the place while avoiding the crowds. We enjoyed a tasty lunch aboard the boat he rented just for us. We loved the scenery, the caves, and the ride on the bamboo boat

We had a wonderful two day cruise on lan ha Bay organised through David at Hanoi Eco Tours. Our guide Tutu was very friendly and did a great job at organising our travel and activities. We especially enjoyed the kayaking trip and visiting the village on bikes. Tai chi at dawn on the top deck was also a lovely experience. While the weather was a bit chilly we still got some great views. We travelled on La Mignonne boat which had excellent rooms, superb and wonderfully presented food, and lovely staff.

As festivities for Tet were gearing up in Hanoi, David, the energetic, unbelievably helpful, knowledgeable , kind and competent owner/guide immersed four American seniors in an experience of a lifetime. We spent three days with David before embarking on a 19 day organized group tour of Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. Those three days were the perfect start. We walked back streets and alleyways, were driven and picked up by his private van, ate in the top rated Vietnamese, restaurant s he selected and learned tons along the way. David customized our plan along the way based on his getting to know our preferences. He went above and beyond in every way. He even helped us out when our time with him was over. Do NOT HESITATE to hire this man. He is smart, honest, hardworking and loves what he does. Thank you David

Our positive experience already started at the planning and booking stage of the tour. David, the manager of Hanoi Eco Tours, spared no effort to accommodate our requests. He was very helpful, flexible and kept what he promised. He was also a very friendly and cheerful guide.
We cruised on a small wooden boat in areas where there were no other tourists, just the two of us together with David and the skipper.
Also, the food prepared and served onboard by the skipper was lovely and plentiful.
We also appreciated David‘s ideology of running his business with small local partners only.
We had a wonderful day and enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Lan Ha bay. We highly recommend to book with him. Good value for money.
Many thanks again to David.

The wet farm tour was a really fun, off the beaten path activity! We got to try our hand at planting rice, plowing a tract of land, and picking crop. We also had an authentic meal at a host's homeand went shopping with them in the local markets. If you want to try something a bit unique, to show you what life is like for some people outside of the city, try this!

Exceptional services provided by Hynam to get me a car from Hanoi to Mai Chau afternoon of Vietnamese New Year's eve, and for arranging the tour to Pu Luong afterwards, then back to Hanoi. The drivers and guides are all wonderful and helpful and they always arrive eearly. Communications with Hynam is quick and efficient and the person on the Hynam end is courteous and very patient with my numerous questions. Hynam is highly recommended for anyone requiring tours and transportation in Vietnam.
