The theatre is closed
Mar 2018
We turned up last night and found the gates locked and could see a pile of concrete rubble in the foyer area. Have now sussed out that they have been closed since December 2017 and only did Thursday nights prior to closure - not Saturdays despite a fair bit of info about that they did both nights. Could find no info as to when they are likely to reopen.

Fun, interactive and cheap

What an amazing experience. Happened to walk by shortly before the Thursday show. So glad I spontaneously purchased a ticket. It was so nice to see Vietnamese culture and learn about the history through a theater performance. Highly recommended!

Economical cultural show
Oct 2017
This Vietnamese cultural show is held once a week only on Thursday night from 8pm.
There are approximately 9 different performances each with beautiful costumes, singing and dances. Each performance depicting an individual culture from a different part of Vietnam.
Not to be missed when visiting old quarters, Hanoi

Awesome little show in at the Golden Bell Theatre
Oct 2016 • Friends
A pleasant surprise was this awesome Golden Bell Show in an old theatre in Hang Bac Street in Old Hanoi. The show was explained to us and the performances were culturally rich with traditional music, singing and dance. There are about 9-10 energetic performances with vibrant colour and enthusiastic performers. The show lasts about 1 hour and is worth every VND paid, very affordable at about $6US. It was absolutely enjoyable but sadly there were not many people in attendance but we were pleased that we did not miss out on this treat. Please support this theatre performance, it is a hidden gem and absolutely worthwhile seeing.

Entertaining show
May 2017
Underrated show, full of colour with traditional singing and dancing. Unfortunately there was more performers than audience which was a pity. Attractive dancers and we all ended up on stage at the end to try the Bamboo Dance great fun. They also E mail you copies of photos taken during the performance. Hope they get better audiences in the main tourist season.

Great show - beautiful old theatre, disappointing to see so few people in the audience
Sep 2016 • Couples
We stumbled across this quaint theatre while we were exploring Hanoi. The young woman promoting the show spoke excellent English and explained that it was a unique collection of Traditional Dance, Song and Music from different regions of Vietnam. There was also a short play. Basic entrance was 120,000 VDG, but we selected premium front row seats for 180,000 VDG which included a headset that translated the script from the play into English - very helpful. Lots of colour, energy and infectious enthusiasm, despite there being about 5 people in the audience. This performance is only held on a Saturday at 8.00pm. It lasts for 1 hour and is worth every VND.

Something to do on a Saturday evening
Aug 2016 • Friends
Like many of the other reviewers, the feeling I got was a troupe of enthusiastic amateurs who are doing it not (just) for the money - they can't be making much because they do it once a week, and the night I was there there were more crew than audience!

I believe they have a number of programmes, but the one we attended had 8 dance/song/skit routines from various parts/periods of Vietnam.

The dance items are a little suspect, but the folk/popular songs and the burglar skit are quite good not just in and of themselves, but they give the audience an idea of what popular entertainment was like.

If you happen to be in the Old Quarter on a Saturday evening, this is certainly something different you can do.

A crash course of Vietnamese culture with a surprise at the end!
Aug 2016 • Couples
I really enjoyed this - it was a varied and reasonably skilled demonstration of traditional Vietnamese performing arts. I highly recommend it, but you should appreciate its not Mama-mia -

Don't expect anything truly spectacular or jaw-dropping - its not Yamatao - and cultures with high humidity don't have many traditional dances with lots of vigorous movement. There were 6-7 mini-shows, each showing a type of deep rooted Vietnamese performing arts culture including songs, dance, a religious ceremony and a play. It will give you much more depth as to what the Vietnamese consider 'art' and help you understand the culture much more - not bad for an hour of your day.

The play has a spoken translation. You'll need to make sure you get a seat with headphones because without them you'll be lost, even with them its difficult as the girl speaking over the top hasn't got a great accent. The other mini-shows aren't translated, however there is a 'description' and spoken announcement of whats happening in English.

The production quality is certainly not like the west-end. It looks like many of the performers have other jobs during the day. That said, (almost) everyone on stage was having a good time and some of them showed some good skills. The whole thing reeked of am-dram but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go - quite the opposite - they need your support. In fact this seems like a show that with a bit more support could be as popular as the water puppet show. Everyone was super friendly and theres photos with the cast after the surprise!

Enjoyable show
Jul 2016 • Couples
We came across the theatre whilst walking the streets, lucky enough it was a Saturday and we had nothing planned so we pre purchased tickets and attended the show that night. Thoroughly enjoyed the show and would recommend it to all ages, they even ask audience to join in at end for bamboo dance which gives a fun finish.
