Custom Vietnam Travel was the perfect agency to contact for what I wanted to do on our two week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. And Rosie was the perfect agent. She was very professional, personable, efficient, and responsive.
I did not have any problem getting a quick reply from her during the preparation; and while we were on the trip she was always available to help and to assure me that things would run smoothly.
I had already created a skeleton itinerary of places we wanted to visit and made reservations at some accommodations. What I needed was how to get from place to place. We wanted private transportation and private tours. As non-touristy as possible. I sent Rosie my itinerary and told her what I wanted. She sent me back my itinerary outlined with car/driver pickup and drop off for all locations. In addition she included suggestions for places to go I didn't know about and planned an off-road Mekong trip which included a boat trip on the palm lined river seeing coconut plantations, daily life along the river, walk through villages, and lunch in a local village restaurant. It was fabulous. Phuong was a wonderful guide, knowledgeable, and lots of fun.
Rosie made all the transportation accommodations to get us from Saigon to Siem Reap. We had a mixture of road trips and boat trips which provided a broad picture of life in the Mekong Delta and Cambodia. The guide, Anna, and her friendly driver drove us to Chau Doc to board our private speed boat to Cambodia. Anna was also very knowledgeable and able to answer all of our questions. A Chau Doc the Hang Chau boat operator was waiting and proceeded to get us our visas on arrival in Cambodia.
On arrival in Phnom Penh, our guide, Mr. Daream, was waiting to pick us up and take us to our hotel which Rosie had suggested, The Bale. A wonderful relaxing place on the river where we experienced a gorgeous sunrise over the Mekong the next morning and watched the fisherman on the river. I'm grateful to Rosie for suggesting The Bale.
The next morning, Mr. Daream picked us up for our last leg of the itinerary; a drive to Siem Reap. Mr. Daream was another knowledgeable guide. We stopped at the spider market, visited the ancient Naga Bridge, and a stone carving workshop along the way.
All of the guides and drivers were courteous, friendly, and delightful people. Always on time, professional, and helpful. The entire trip was exceptionally smooth without any problems; and it was amazing beyond our expectations. Thanks to Rosie and her excellent skill as a travel agent !! Vietnam and Cambodia are beautiful places with wonderful people.

We did a private trip which was designed by Minh Ninh of Custom Travel. Great glimpse of Vietnam, lots of very professional and expert staff and guides. We felt very confident with the organisation and flow. Some comments:
People
The Guides were all very good with our Hanoi guide (I have forgotten his name) being exceptional. We enjoyed the discussions on history, religion, politics and culture and I found that we could have long and high level conversations.
Hotels
The best premises we stayed at were firstly La Siesta in Hanoi, and then Lantana in Hoi An. Not only were they very nicely appointed but the staff in both locations are excellent.
Optional Tours
We thoroughly enjoyed the mopeds in Ho Chi Minh. My partner was screaming in nervous delight and smiled for the whole time.
The less good was the Bai Tu Long Bay trip. The scenery is absolutely stunning and I understand why everybody wants to visit. The boat, guide, and crew need a real jolt to get to a more professional level. The guide was largely absent and apart from a 5 minute introductory was not to be found so passengers could not ask questions. The Captain was lazy and the crew therefore not so well trained in hospitality. Passengers had to find them to get a drink or ask a question, and most times they sit around playing games on their phones. We had fun, and met some nice people and experienced the beautiful surrounds but there was no feeling of bonding with the crew which normally comes with such a close intimate experience.
Would we change anything? Not much as we enjoyed most things we did and saw. I personally loved the Hue citadel and palace tour and because of my interest in history could have spent a full day doing that. The walking tours are terrific. Hoi An is nice but too touristic so maybe one day less there. Glad we did not go to the Danang beaches as that mass tourism is not our scene. The tour food was very good but often too much so maybe consider less food, better quality for same price???
Next trip we would redo some of the things, and probably do a bit of beach/mountain time away from the tourist hubs.
People

We were absolutely satisfied with the service we received from Julie at Vietnam Custom Travel. Everything was very well organized. From our first email enquiry up until our departure from Hanoi she not only ensured that everything was to our satisfaction, she checked in with us at every stage of our trip to ensure that everything was okay with the hotel and tour guide allocated to us. My wife & I worked with Susan from Custom Vietnam Travel (Custom Asia Travel) to put together an amazing custom 15 day private tour for us. Susan was extremely responsive and knowledgeable throughout the entire planning process, as well as checking in our us leading into the tour, during the tour and after the tour. We had originally reached out to 7 different highly rated tour companies. After going back and forth with each company, paring the list down to a few, we eventually picked Custom Asia Travel and we are glad we did. We didn’t based our decision to choose Custom Asia Travel based only on price, but on quality and responsive. Susan was extremely responsive and respectful throughout the entire planning process. We never had an issue with the tour during the entire 15 days, everything went like clockwork. The tour guides and drivers in each city were great, as well as the accommodations and restaurants.

My husband and I booked an 18 day touring holiday of Vietnam through Mihn at Custom Asia travel. We booked our own flights to and from the UK and Mihn arranged the airport transfers .
Our Itinerary covered Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hoi An, Hue, Saigon and Phu Quoc Island.
We told Minh roughly what we wanted see and do and she planned all the flights,hotels,excursions,guides and drivers in between- making suggestions and tweaking the itinerary to fit it all in.
In short, she was amazing!
We also had overall say on all the hotels before she booked them- they were all fabulous.
Our guides were all professional, knowledgeable , fun! and spoke good English and were very adaptable to any changes we wanted to make along the way. .
The drivers were great and the cars were immaculate.
Mihn was on hand at the touch of text/ call before and during our visit..

I found Custom Asia Travel on the internet and contacted them. Right from the beginning, Molly Hue impressed me with her dedication to creating a wonderful trip for my husband and me. Over the past year, we have exchanged many emails planning a trip that would be right for us: 20 days, Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Halong Bay Cruise, Hue, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City. She was there for us every step of the way. Our guide, Callum (Cuong Trinh) and driver Hien took excellent care of us in Hanoi and Ninh Binh. Our car was air conditioned and very comfortable and Hien was a thoughtful driver. Callum took extra care of me, as I developed hip flexor issues that affected my mobility. Molly and Callum made adjustments as needed to allow me to access activities more easily.
The hotels Molly chose were awesome: La Siesta in Hanoi and Saigon, Silk Path Grand Hotel in Hue and Clos du Fil in Ninh Binh. All offered beautiful rooms, excellent service and great locations. La Siesta, in particular, specializes in outstanding service. Molly also booked us a 2 night, 3 day cruise with Indochina Prince Junk, a 4 cabin boat that cruises the less busy Bai Tu Long Bay. It was beautiful with excellent tasting menus and great crew. Some unforgettable experiences: a fishing trip and private cooking class at Tam Coc Resort, Prince Junk Cruise, Old Quarter street food tour with Callum, Van Long Reserve, Thung Nham Bird Valley, private visit to artist’s home and water puppet show in Hanoi, visit to the Citadel in Hue, the Museum of Cham Sculpture in Danang and city tour of Saigon. All of our guides Callum in Hanoi and Ninh Binh, Phat in Hue, Danang and Hoi An, Kenny G on the Prince Junk and Nguyet in Saigon were excellent and extremely caring about my health issues. We could contact them and Molly at any time and get an immediate response. Also, Molly provided a great list of restaurants in each city for meals on our own.We would recommend Molly and Custom Asia Travel to everyone!

Linh organised a custom 4 day, 3 night tour from Hanoi for our group of 7 family members from Australia. She was very professional, offering suggestions on things to do for all locations we were visiting in Vietnam. She even met up with us in Hoi An, recommended cafes and restaurants and helped us organise transport around the area - much cheaper than our accommodation was offering! On the tour we visited Tam Coc, Cat Ba and spent a night on a our own boat on Cat Ba Bay. The transport was very comfortable and our driver got us everywhere safely. Our guide, Hung was amazing, willing to answer our many questions and his English was exemplary. Everything ran like clockwork, all accommodation and activities organised for us and we were delivered to the airport for our flight to Hue with plenty of time to spare. We booked 3 star accommodation which was very clean and comfortable, except for in Cat Ba, which was a bit disappointing (but in a great location). The 24 hours on the boat was the highlight of our 3 week Vietnamese holiday. The boat, the service, the food, the activities and the scenery were hard to fault. We got paddled around, paddled ourselves, walked, hiked, rode bicycles, swam, toured a fishing village, joined the locals for tai chi and caught some squid! We can highly recommend booking your holiday with Custom Asia Travel.

I recently returned from a fabulous trip to Vietnam and Cambodia that was arranged by Susan from Custom Asia Travel. Everything about the trip was wonderful. The hotels selected by Susan were all amazing. Clean, with excellent service and the breakfasts were all very yummy. Great food. The private tour guides were exceptional and went the extra mile to provide an unique superb trip that exceeded my expectations. If I could give this company 6 stars , I would !!!
Our first vietnam 13 days tour in 2016 with Ms Susan Hien at Custom Vietnam Tour went so smoothly , safe, and fun that we decided to contact Ms Susan to help us plan our 2nd adventure of 3 days to Sapa, Vietnam . Ms. Susan responded promptly to our emails and within few hours had the itinerary set up for approval. She made sure of every single details, even helping us have her driver pick up luggages at previous hotel and help transfer to our new hotel at the end of trip. The tour guide and all drivers were professional, safe and spoke fluent English.
Ms Susan kept in touch with us continuously during our trip . At our last transfer, I heard her on the phone asking the driver if we are picked up and safely transferred to hotel .

Custom trip, South and Central Vietnam. The guides were excellent, made sure all aspects of the itinerary were accomplished in every detail. Their english was excellent, and knowledge in depth. The accommodations were lovely, much more elegant than we could ever have picked for ourselves. The drivers were highly skilled, everything went without a hitch. Molly tracked out trip, advised us of flight changes, and made sure every detail was followed. She was constantly available to discuss even the smallest of issues. Every tiny detail was addressed in detail.
The things I would do differently are ENTIRELY my doing and no reflection on Molly, or guides or her agency. I failed to study the itinerary closely, and had based on my assumptions of what we would do on this trip on a previous agency (no longer in business since COVID) that we had used several times throughout SE Asia, and knew what sorts of things we had already done including North Vietnam. So, much of this trip seemed redundant and basic. For someone who has never spent time in Asia, walking through an outdoor market; seeing local crafts; and visiting temples is a fascinating experience. Not so after several countries and trips. Again, this was totally my fault. For a first time visitor to SE Asia, this itinerary would be perfect, and perfectly executed.
The things I would do differently are ENTIRELY my doing and no reflection on Molly, or guides or her agency. HI, I am planning a 6 day vacation to Vietnam in Hanoi for 2 .(Halong Bay n Ninh Binh). Kindly advice when is the best time to visit vietnam. pls let us know ur itinerary and the cost.

We were in Vietnam most of February and the weather was very good. Definately hot and humid in the South but not unbearable. We started in Ho Chi Minh City, went to the Mekong for a two day boat excursion, then back to HCM to fly to Hue and Hoi An. After five days in central Vietnam, we flew to Hanoi - spent 6 days in the mountains in tiny villages outside Sapa (highly recommended) and then took a cruise out on Halong Bay. The weather in the Central and North was occasionally coolish but generally warm during the day and little or no rain.

Was looking at going to Sapa from Hanoi (overnight stay) as I understand countryside so much different to other parts of Vietnam + the rice paddy fields, waterfalls etc look so beautiful on web pages. My legs/knees can't manage too many stairs/climbs, general short walking along trails ok. Heard you do a "easy treks"- how long & what would this type of trek involve?

Hi iamlibby, if you have such a short time in Vietnam, I think you should spend a day for sight seeing the famous underground network of Viet Cong in Cu Chi tunnel and half of the day you can visit parts of Saigon. In the evening you can enjoy the night life of Saigon and taste some street food by a scooter tour. If you are interested in the Mekong delta, then you also can visit the Mekong Delta for a day tour.

We have used local travel agents for private tours elsewhere. I just want to check that this is a legitimate review.
Were the guides well able to explain culture and history.
Were hotels and travel first rate? We are experienced travelers but now in 60s but now need more comfort in accommodations and travel, like air conditioned cars.
Any guide particularly good?

I can confirm that I co-planned some 6 day tours for our port stops in Vietnam for more than 50 people.
I cannot comment regarding hotels, but we were very pleased with the level of professionalism.
Fiona - our tour representative corresponded with a high level of English.
All the tour guides were excellent & the transport was of a high standard. The restaurants used during the tour were very good too.
I would highly recommend this company & should I return to Vietnam, I would use them again.

For your information, "The Tunnels" that you mentioned is in Ho Chi Minh city, not in Hanoi and driving from Halong Bay to Hanoi takes you roughly 3.5-4 hours.
