About
Hanoi Cooking Centre established in 2009, remains Hanoi's only purpose built cooking school and culinary centre. A variety of cooking classes and street food tours are available twice daily. All classes begin with welcome tea, while a chef gives a brief introduction to the local Chau Long market and Vietnamese market culture generally. After a 3 minute walk guests arrive at the market and are immediately submerged into the hustle, bustle and wonder of one of the last remaining wet markets in Hanoi. Our chef will explain the produce and offer various samples along the way. After returning to the centre you will then participate in a 'hands-on' cooking class and the morning / afternoon finishes in our air-conditioned restaurant where you and your class mates can enjoy the dishes you have prepared along with free flow drinks. All guests receive a complimentary and much sort after Hanoi Cooking Centre apron and recipe cards. Class + lunch = approximately 3.5hrs For guests preferring a more adventurous time, our 5 hour street food tour also includes the market tour and then takes guests to 5 of the best known (amongst the locals and our HCC staff) street food venues across Hanoi. The number 1 rule for this tour = come hungry! For guests with limited time try our Market Tour & Lunch or Dinner package for a truly authentic Hanoi culinary experience.

Because of Covid-19 I had a private cooking class. My instructor was really great! We first went to the local market to see what is normal in an everyday Vietnamese food market. There were some fruits and vegetables I had never seen before. Once we were back in the kitchen I made 4 dishes. His instructions were very helpful and it was fun. For one person this was a lot of food to eat but it was delicious. I got a cookbook to take home and I hope to make some of the recipes soon!

This food tour was fantastic! My wife and I only had 2 nights in Hanoi, and we wanted to eat and learn as much as possible. Our guide Son is a very knowledgeable local chef. We started with pho and learned about the original recipe and secret ingredients, and also about how family recipes get passed down and used in Hanoi. We also ate bun cha, crab spring rolls, banh mi, and more. Son also took us to the originator of egg coffee, and it was the best we tasted in all of Vietnam. Highly recommended!

We were going to take a cooking class here in a few days and ended up at the bookstore that is in the same courtyard. I headed up to the cafe to wait for my family to be done in the bookstore. I ordered a bhan mi meatball meal and I could not believe how good it was. The sauce is exquisite and the bread is crispy in the outside and moist and chewy on the inside. It was incredible. I made all my kids order the same and the plates were all finished with a big round of smiles.

Set in a charming building, the class begins with the chef taking you for a stroll through a nearby wet market. Then it's back to begin the cooking class. The chef provided very good instruction and lots of cheffy tips! We cooked banana flower salad, ginger chicken, spring rolls, and sweet corn dessert soup. Throughout the class you are offered a great selection of unlimited drinks, which was a welcome addition!
After cooking, we then headed upstairs into the atmospheric restaurant to enjoy the fruits of our labour with our fellow students - a lovely experience. At the end you receive the recipes and an apron to take home.
Some did find the "classroom" a little warm at times, and you need to be prepared to be standing for a good two hours while you're learning and cooking. To make it an even better experience, my suggestions would be to have some stools behind the cooking benches, and also to perhaps install some mirrors above the chef's counter so that the class can observe the cooking steps and follow along with the chef, rather than coming to the front to observe, then going back to your bench, having to remember the steps.
Overall though, it was a fun experience that created lots of happy memories.

We really enjoyed this street food tour. E was a really great guide and very knowledgeable about the food we were eating. Don’t feel like you have to finish everything though! We stopped at 5-6 places and every serving was a full serving-by the end we were way too full.
We started with pho right near the cooking centre. Then we took a tour of the food market-be warmed if you get upset by dead animals-this is not the market for you. We stopped for a few snacks along the way in the market, then stopped for coffee. Then we stopped for banh cuon, then banh mi and finally barbecue. Like I said, we were very full!
You walk a decent amount so wear comfy shoes. I recommend close toed shoes because the market was kind of wet from people washing their areas.

My intention was to learn more about traditional Vietnamese cuisine including fermentation methods. I was received with a very warm welcome at the cooking center and chef Hung took me on a short tour to the local market and gave me an insight into current Vietnamese cooking. I was overwhelmed by his knowledgeable explanations, not only of traditional recipes but also on today's cooking in Vietnam.
I definitely want to come back. To the cooking center, to the restaurant and to the bookshop. A quiet and wonderful place with charming people. Not to miss out on it!

My wife and I did a street food tour with Chef Hung. We tasted a bunch of traditional Vietnamese dishes including pho, bun cha, and banh cuon all of which were the best that we had had in Hanoi. Chef Hung was great and taught us a bunch about Vietnamese cooking. We also enjoyed talking to him about what it is like being a classically trained chef in Vietnam. He was Sisto support flexible and changed our itinerary based on what we wanted to try.

I took the Vietnamese Street Food class on September 20th. There were only two of us in the class and we received personal attention by the instructor who took us to the wet market and taught the class. We even witnessed a raid by the police in charge of food safety practices. Each dish that we learned about was exceptional from the Pho Ba to the barbecued pork all extremely worthwhile. I have made the deep-fried spring rolls twice and applied what I learned about Pho Ba to Pho Ga and my wife loved.

We took a separate street food tour one day and the next day we took their street food cooking class. They were both fabulous!!!
We loved everything we ate on he street food tour. We’re still talking about the coffee w/fermented rice and frozen yogurt! It tasted like sweet warm bread and ice cream. What a flavor sensation. The chicken pho and bun cha were beyond delicious! Then to go to class to learn how to make a lit of what we tried the day before was a day we’ll always remember w/great fondness!
