The sign outside Bookworm (pictured) reads: “The best little bookshop in South East Asia.” This is 100% true. No bookshop has absolutely everything, but, per square inch, Bookworm is one of the best bookshops I have ever seen, and this is in comparison to large independent bookshops in major university cities in Europe and the US. Especially satisfying is Bookworm’s selection of Vietnamese and other SE Asian titles in English, but I also found pristine copies of other gems I had sought for years. If you’re a reader, teacher, student, thinker - anyone: go look. Also, the shop’s placement is fun; you have to squeeze down a narrow alley (don’t worry, the sign’s on the street) and pass through a cute courtyard to enter the shop. Yes, there’s coffee. Enjoy! Paws for travel!

A haven for those who seek serenity in the chaos. The staff are always friendly and will go beyond to help you. They have a good mix of new and old books, with defined genre sections. The cafe does some tasty drinks so be sure to indulge. I’m a regular here and it’s ambiance has made it my favourite shop since I moved here.

Loved it! A quiet 2 story shop with a built in cafe. Lovely ambience and a great selection of books especially English. We spent a good hour or so browsing and then read our finds whilst enjoying a cold drink.

I arrived in Hanoi for 3 months backpacking and realised I left my travel book at home ... Doh! Is saught out this bookshop on Tripadvisor and navigated my way over. I enjoyed the walk and loved the area which I think is the cooking district.
They had a great selection of books including very cheap second hand travel books. The staff were really friendly and recommended a really nice street for tasty street food nearby.

I found this place after hearing they would buy second hand books and was interested in trading my read novel for some language books for the next set of my journey. They were happy to take my book, and managed to pick up a book on Vietnamese and a book on Thai for very little money. If I'd had the space I could have happily spent a few hours just picking out novels to read - the selection is limited, but also extremely varied and worth browsing.

Here is the Bookstore & Cafe near West Lake.
You may be difficult to arrive here.
Because "Bookworm Hanoi" don't face to the Main St.
So you should show "ADDRESS" to Taxi Driver.
(Near Hanoi Cooking Centre)
I love this atmosphere of here!
I recommend this shop.

An amazing little place tucked away behind the Hanoi Cooking Centre in a Hanoi back street. We went to trade in some books and came away with far more than we had intended (and the pile would have been even bigger if we weren't conscious of our rucksack space!). They have a great selection of new and used, fiction and non-fiction starting from around 40,000VND for some of the used books. The owner was friendly and seems to enjoy chatting with customers about their choices and their travels. We didn't eat there but there is also a courtyard cafe where you can have lunch or a drink.

A nice selection of English books, especially children's books. A nice oasis in the middle of a small street next to the Hanoi Cooking Centre. Can buy a book and sit down and read with a great cup of coffee!

Bookworm has a comfortable and homey ambiance. Being surrounded by so many wonderful books by my favorite writers after so many weeks abroad was like seeing old friends!
Excellent selection of English language books, organized nicely in air conditioned rooms. The staff is friendly without being too intrusive and they clearly care about books themselves. Mysteries, used fiction and a smallish new fiction shelf are on the main floor and non-fiction and books about Vietnam are upstairs. There is also a poetry and theater shelf in the stairwell. On my first visit I got books by Carol Shields, Georges Simenon, Kate Atkinson and Robert B. Parker.
You can also trade in books. If you are trying to downsize your books while traveling, you can bring them here and know that they will be comfortable and happy and looked after until someone buys them :)
While no one is going to get rich selling their used books to a bookstore, I did bring in 10 mostly short books in good- very good condition (mystery novels, "serious" fiction, English language teaching books and a travel guide) and get about $18 for them, which is real money in Hanoi.
As a bonus, there is a cafe (attached to the Hanoi Cooking Center) right at the entrance. The spring rolls and coffees are good. For a delightful Hanoi afternoon, go to Bookworm, browse a bit, grab a coffee and then walk about 5 blocks to the Food Shop 45, a delightful and affordable Indian Restaurant in a lovely setting on Truc Bach Lake.

this question needs to be directed to The Bookworm. I have no idea which books they have, and I think it changes with what they get in as trade-ins too.
Any books for learning Vietnamese?
