We went on this tour to Hoa Lu and Tam Coc as a family from Hanoi. The tour guide was friendly and very knowledgable about Vietnamese history. In Hoa Lu, we looked around the ancient temples. It was very fascinating. The buffet food was nice with a variety of Western and local food. The boat ride at Tam Coc was the highlight of our tour. The landscape was spectacular and we went into three caves. If you feel fit enough, you can even help row the boat, which is a good experience, and we enjoyed it very much. On the way back, the bus dropped every one of us near or at the place we desired, which was very helpful. We got dropped off at around 7 o'clock in the evening, which was a little later than expected, because of the traffic.
We recommend this tour anyone who came to Vietnam to see the beautiful landscape.

My husband and I enjoyed this day trip to Hoa Lu and Tam Coc -- the perfect way to escape Hanoi for a day. Our guide Jimmy was very sweet and provided a lot of historical information about the two temples we visited. The gem of the trip was the boat ride on the Tam Coc. It was pretty crowded with tourists but that's to be expected and didn't ruin our time at all. It was very peaceful cruising down the river in the row boat, communicating with our rower, and marveling at the beautiful limestone karsts. This place is straight out of a movie. Other reviews talked about at the end of the river (before turning around) you're expected to buy a drink or snack for the rower, but I really don't see a problem with that. They're working hard and honesty it was nice to have a little snack & a beer for the trip back.

This tour also included a bike ride around the Ninh Binh area which I enjoyed, but just be aware the roads away from the main streets aren't paved. Wasn't a problem for us.

Overall we really enjoyed the trip and would highly recommend it!

The itinerary was good, the rowing trip has beautiful scenery but there is an expectation you buy the rower a drink and snack half way through and the prices are very high.

The guide Quinn (apologies if this is spelt incorrectly) was friendly, energetic and very knowledgeable.

Pros-good scenery and nice lunch. Cons-tiny minivan way overcrowded and very small seats. The bicycle ride over rocks and potholes was a terrible experience and several people fell on the rocks. It was like riding thru a construction site. Would not recommend.r

My wife and I spent an exceptionally enjoyable day touring this lovely city with guides from Hanoifreewalkingtour organisation. We were met at our hotel at 9am and enjoyed the company of 2 student guides who shared their love of this fine city and showed us how Hanoi people live and work. We highly commend the 2 students who were very friendly and personable and commend the organisation for its efficiency and good communication. We had the most wonderful day!

On our free day in Hanoi we decided to book some tours with HANOI FREE WALKING TOURS: the one that shows you Ho Chi MIn complex and Literature temple, the one that shows you Old Quarter and the last one: Street Food Tour.
We spend an amazing day in Hanoi with that guides. A different one for each tour. All of them aweosome. They are extremelly punctual and friendly . I highly recommend that club if you want to enjoy the city as a local!

Our tour guide Thinh brought us to all the good food restaurants around the Old Quarter in Hanoi, Vietnam. I wanted to experience the traditional way of how locals eat which is by the side streets and he showed us exactly that. The best part of the tour was the Egg Coffee, it was so delicious, we wouldn't have it all figured out if it wasn't for Thinh, his english is so good too. He helped us with haggling with the locals since we decided to buy a few things that we saw at the market along the way which is not part of the tour by the way but he was very patient and willingly do it for us. The company is so lucky to have a guide like him, you need to request for him when you go to Hanoi too! :-)

Recommend this tour, and if you get Kimmy as a guide, you are in for a treat. His English was good, his knowledge was good, and he kept everyone entertained. The highlight of the day was definately Tam Coc and the bike ride, and then the boat trip. Transport was good and it was very well organised for a full day trip. Remember to wear clothes which cover shoulders and knees to enter the temples. And a tip - photographers will take your photo at many opportunity, especially the bike and boat trips. They are good photos but they will ask top $$, so barter them down to what you may normally pay in your own country - we paid way too much ! Thanks Kimmy for a memorable day 😊

Best thing for me regarding the old town tour then the food tour that night was the lovely company of Vy(old town) and Doris(food tour).. They were two delightful young ladies who were informative and so easy to be with. I loved the food shops that I was taken to,real Vietnamese street food and the best I have had in this country.. Happy,happy.happy.

The starter was a stop at the temples at Hoa Lu, which were not particularly exciting if you have seen other temples/pagodas in Vietnam, although it was interesting to learn about the history

The second course was a 30 minute cycle trip around Tam Coc. This was an easy ride along a flat path through the countryside and good fun. Not the best cycles in the world, but the tyres were pumped and the brakes worked.

The main course was the trip along the Tam Coc river. Very touristy, but nonetheless a great experience. You can politely say no to the sellers at the turnaround point if you wish, and the recommended tip for the rower is 20k per person, although ours asked for more. Again, I politely said no.

Kimi was our guide for the trip, and his knowledge and humour kept us entertained throughout the day.
