We disappointed with the tour guide who made me felt that this was totally an unpleasant journey. At first she forced me and my little sister to split, two of us travelled together but has to ride a different raft at Nin Binh the reason...More
The departure point is busy with lots of boats but after about 200 metres the boats are in a line and as it is rowed by there feet you start to enjoy the limestone scenery.

This tour operator has the worst service.
Base was the long hotel in Ninh Binh. The food was cold and fairly good.
They broke my backpack, didn’t tell me, apologize and didn’t offer any compensation.
The were rude and told me I was impolite.
Very long story, but short version we booked the luxury day tour to Ninh Binh through Tan Coc Tours. It appears they over booked the bus we were last on they told us to get off go back to our hotel an wait for another...More

Love the ride on the sampan down and up the river. Pass some nice bungalows along the river, look like nice and quiet getaways. Nice bicycle ride after the boat ride. Visit to the temples were ok, nothing spectacular.
Very good attractions and our guide Sarah was very helpful but we could not do the bike part of the tour due to rain and you would be unable to do the boat trip if it rained heavily, no alternative was offered.
Be aware that...More

Hi sorry for late reply , but if you havent done your tour yet here's my two cents worth - if you're already doing the Halong Bay tour I think you can skip this . This is more for people who do not have as much free time to do a Halong Bay tour since it will take about 8 hrs back and forth from Hanoi to go to Halong compared to just 2 hrs for Hoa Lu and Tam Coc besides as everyone says Tam Coc is Halong on land , same limestone mountains and rock formations. Do the City tour , although it will only take half day to go around and see the One Pillar Pagoda , Temple of Lit. HO Chi Minh Mausoleum , The Red Bridge , and the Hoan Kiem Lake
