Where do you even start? There’s so many to chose from and Peony cruises caught our eye for the decor and style of boat and there full Itinerary & we are so pleased we chose this one.

We booked directly with Peony cruises which included a shuttle from our hotel in Hanoi and back again. The bus picked us up on time and was pure luxury. Only six seats all individually set as big comfy arm chairs with free bottled water. The journey to the port was about two hours from Hanoi with a stop about half way for the facilities/drink/snacks.

The port itself is a little bit chaotic but your soon checked in and given a colour card. Staff then come and collect you based on your card and take you to the tender to get on the boat. Staff take care of your suitcase and ensure it gets to your cruise ship.

As your approach the cruise ship the staff are waiting waving and welcoming you onto the ship. Our host for our 3D 2N cruise was Amy and there was a brief welcome meeting which was funny and informative.

I won’t go into the itinerary as you can find that online but it is a jam packed as it says and all the activities are well thought out and fun.

We stayed in one of the suites and it was beautiful. Separate bath and shower and huge room & balcony. The only very minor issue was it is directly over the engine room so when the boat starts up in the morning (about 615) it’s incredibly noisy but you are on a ship and breakfast starts at 7 anyway.

Nothing is too much of a problem and every evening (apart from during dinner time itself) it’s happy hour. Cocktails where about £6-8 which during happy hour meant you got buy one get one free so only
£3 a go. There was free tea, coffee and water available.

On the second day we we were transferred to a day boat - the food (like the main ship) was phenomenal. My partner doesn’t like prawns and they substituted them with no fuss. Tea & coffee wasn’t included on the day boat which was a little frustrating as it is on our main ship but never the less the staff again were brilliant and it was an enjoyable second day exploring the bay at Cat Ba island.

If you are lucky enough to get some sun whilst on the cruise there are beautiful sun decks on the ship and on the day boat to enjoy.

The bay itself is beautiful. Amy explained that Ha Long bay itself has over 1000 boats docked their during the night. We stayed in Lan Ha Bay (Ha Long Bay was originally the whole area but subsequently split into smaller parts) which only has 30 boats docked of a night so much more peaceful. The water (we even experienced a bit of a storm) was so flat and you did not notice you were on a ship at all when moored or anchored.

Waking up in the bay is an experience you have to include in your Vietnam trip and Peony cruises were brilliant - we have no complaints at all. A special thanks to Amy, Leah from reception and Eric from F&B they were all brilliant.

We had a great time during our one night on Peony Cruise. The boat is ultra modern and luxurious, with each room equipped with a large bath and stunning views of Halong Bay. We were well looked after by Tuam, our cruise manager. He kept us busy with activities such as kayaking, cooking classes, cave-exploring and more. Further, all of the staff were engaging and attentive, willing to go out of the way to ensure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay, and willing to assist us if we weren’t. It was an invaluable part of our stay in Hanoi and we would highly recommend spending at least one night on this ship rather than doing a day tour to Halong Bay.
Our only regret was paying to upgrade from a standard room to the exclusive suite. We upgraded as we were under the impression that this was the only type of room that boasted a balcony and bath tub, however we came to realise that all rooms had baths and balconies, with the only difference being the size of the balcony (which we didn’t spend any time on anyway). Our advice to you when booking this cruise is to save your money and just booked the standard room, because the real enjoyment of this cruise comes with the activities they provide both on and off the boat. You’re so busy doing fun things that you barely spend any time in your room!

I booked Peony cruise for 30th January 2D/1N package via Inside Travel. It was perfect, no complaints, all compliments.

A very professional driver Tien picked us up from our apartment in Old Quarter exactly at 9 in a very comfortable, luxurious Limousine van. The journey from Hanoi to the port was roughly around 150 minutes with a 10minutes break. The van had an on board wifi and complimentary water.
We were dropped at the Peony waiting lounge at 11.30 and were served with complimentary tea & coffee. Drinks are also reasonably priced with 1 on 1 offer.

Next a boat took all on-board peony cruise to the ship and we started sailing by 12.30. Our cruise manager Amy was incredible, jolly and took good care of everyone on board.

Ship is perfect, rooms have big windows, balcony and a bathing tub. It was marvellous.

Food was incrediblly delicious. I had already informed about my wife and baby's diet restrictions and it was well taken care off. They offer drinks at 1 on 1 on-board as well which is cherry on cake unless others who charges buy 2 get 1.

We were not able to go for kayaking due to my baby. In the evening, Vieatnemese spring roll learning was fun, fishing in night and early morning Tai chi.

Visiting Trung Trang cave in Cát Bà was also a wonderful experience. The check out time is 9.45. After which you can have brunch and relax on the deck.
Then we were disembarked at around 11.30 and taken to pier again from where we were again taken along the highway to Hanoi and dropped off in Old quarter by 2.

I would definitely recommend Peony for the Ha Long experience. Keep on the good work guys. Cheers!!!

We take 2 days tour (one night on boat) on Peony boat/cruise (they have many types of boats). From the beginning it was looked like they want “artificialy create the mood” ready for buying and accepting everything what they want to sell in positive ways.
One guy (tour guide) shows you everything: kayaking, cooking class (how to make rools), how to prepare and drink viet.tee, guide you to Cat Ba... They are pushy with selling the very expensive drinks (bring your own!). The food is very poor and for special dinner you got western food which they don’t know prepare. And for the end on 2nd day you must checked out at 9.45 and wait in the crow or restaurant thought the itinerary finished at 12.00. We payed 440$ and it’s not worth even the half.

Dear 555nata_at As Peony Cruise's Customer Care's representative, I am very sorry that you were disappointed in your stay with Peony. I apologize if you have the impression of our staff being pushy, however I believe they're just trying to be attentive to your needs. Normally when you book through any website, you would see our itinerary stating checking out at 9.45 and while cruising back you can enjoy a brunch at our restaurant. Either way, I am sorry that the whole experience feel rushed for you. Rest assured that I will carefully check with the kitchen team to see the quality of our food. I am sorry once again that you didn't particularly enjoy your stay, if you have any requests or assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me at customercare@pelicangroup.vn Thank you and best regards, Mai NGUYEN - Guest Relations Manager

We had a incredible time on our peony cruise. From the moment we arrived at the check-in area we knew it was going to be a special few days. When we arrived we were given drinks and snacks and asked to wait for all the others to arrive. We were kept well up to date with what was happening, it was all very well organised. We were taken to the boat and arrived to a wonderful warm welcome and the day was clearly set out wih the schedule, so much was fitted into a short time. We had delicious meals with so mnay options. I am vegan and they did a special menu just for me and brought me my food. They were so helpful and kind it was amazing.

In the afternoon we went kayaking, swimming in the bay and had time to relax and enjoy ahppy hour. We then had a cooking lesson and a fabulous dinner, all the food looked like art work. We then had squid fishing and a living evening. In the morning we had sunrise tai chi followed by breakfast and a trek to Cat bai Island trek foll8by brunch and check out.

The level of care we felt from the staff was very impressive. The tour manager Amy was especially helpful and all staffs English was near perfect. The only thing I would mention is that the drinks are priced than other places but that is to be expected as you on a cruise. I would definitely recommend this cruise. Another thing to mention is that the staff were really good at reminding us to be are about the environment and they didn't have any plastic on board. It was nice to see after the rest of the county. We are sorry it was so short. Thank you Peony Cruises!!

Peony cruise lived up to her great reviews. The service was attentive, and the food was lovely, the room perfect with a bathtub with a view (although that’s occasionally difficult with so many boats on the water when one moors up next to you). We chose the cheapest cabin, and weren’t disappointed as the premium cabins are identical just one floor up (the view from the top deck doesn’t differ much from the lower deck). The staff and the ship cant be faulted. The ship never felt crowded.
We have been lucky enough to have traveled in Asia for a few months, and have cycled through countless rice paddies, village, been inside caves and been kayaking so took the opportunity to stay on the boat (and sit in the hot tub) and not do the excursions. The boat transfers and canoe trip all felt a little “herded”. People we met on board reported the cave tour felt very rushed, this takes away from the luxury experience people expect. We were grateful we only chose a 1 night trip as that was plenty for us. If it’s your first time in Vietnam and only a short trip, then 2 nights might be worthwhile. (The ship was faultless). We didn’t expect the water to be so polluted and filled with rubbish, so wouldn’t want to swim (this may be a shame had it been hot). Hopefully UNESCO can intervene soon and enforce a collective clean up of the bay by the cruise companies before people stop coming. Recommend an early night as the boat engines start up at 0545 which even for a heavy sleeper was very loud. Be prepared for a long stop (20-40min) on the transfer by mini bus to be “herded” into crowded tourist shopping/bathroom breaks. If you have the option, save your $$ and use it to visit Koh Sok national park in Thailand instead (how we suspect Halong bay was 10 years ago).

We stayed on peony cruise for 2 nights and 3 days. Which is the way to go. The people who stayed only one night I do not think got enough time to enjoy everything and get the best experience. Staying two nights allows you to do a whole day excursion to cat ba island and bicycle around a village and kayak to a private beach for swimming. The one night people only get one very short excursion and one kayaking/swimming session (no beach). The drinks are expensive for Vietnam, similar to western prices, however happy hour(s) allows buy one get one free so it ends up being an okay price. The bathroom and bedrooms are very luxurious however do not expect privacy (on any ha long cruise) because you will always have boats driving past and ladies on little boats driving up to your balcony trying to sell chips, or even just loitering around the boat.
Would recommend.

A truely fantastic experience! I signed up for the 3 days and 2 night tour and it did not disappoint. All of the staff were so friendly and could not do enough for you. They made you feel very at ease which I particularly enjoyed as I was a solo traveller during this stay. Ken was the manager and had a fantastic sense of humour! He made sure you knew the itinerary and answered any questions people had. Bobby was the manager within the restaurant and was wonderful! I didn't eat seafood on this trip and Bobby made the changes necessary to the menu for me. Breakfast was a great buffet with a wide range of options. Whilst lunch and dinner was an impressive 6 or 7 courses. There were times when I had to turn down the final few courses as I was so full! The itinerary was a great balance of fun experiences and relaxing time to enjoy the boat, take in the scenery or enjoy the weather. I especially adored the day trip on my second day. The second crew for the day trip were fantastic, particularly Cong who was so friendly and kind. All in all a wonderful experience that I will never forget! As a solo traveller I would definitely recommend attending the Peony cruise, every one was so friendly and I never felt alone.

The staff were absolutely incredible on this boat. They go above and beyond and the 2 days really surpassed our expectations. They gave us a lovely birthday surprise at dinner with birthday balloon sign and lights and also brought a cake onboard and sang happy birthday to my husband. This was organised just after a quick note when I booked it. They remember who you are, what your name is. The attention to detail is amazing. The rooms are spectacular, just like the photos. The drinks are quite expensive but you wouldn’t expect anything less for a luxury cruise boat. The food was delicious! They check if you are happy with the evening menu before. It’s a buffet at lunch and then 5 course meal in the evening. The choice was brilliant and it was very very tasty. The staff are very attentive and friendly. We decided not to do any of the excursions - we wanted to enjoy the boat and we were going to Cat Ba island afterwards anyway. The itinerary is quite rushed and technically you are only on the boat for 12 hours. But you know that when you book it and it really surpassed our expectations. I would 100% recommend this company.

The Peony cruise was an absolutely unforgettable experience in Ha Long and Lan Ha Bay! We were on the Peony #1 cruise ship for 2 nights celebrating our honeymoon and a birthday. On both days the staff went overboard to make our celebrations very special. They decorated our room with rose petals and balloons both days, and they even decorated our table at dinner time and gave a special celebratory performance for each occasion and presented us with special cocktails and a birthday cake! Not to mention the chef was very skilled and the meals were all delicious. We especially enjoyed the set menu dinners with several courses, a wonderful presentation of the dishes, and great service! Be sure to try their special egg coffee, it was like nothing I’ve ever had before. Crew members Tom, Jasmine and David made our stay very special and they spent a lot of time interacting with us and giving us suggestions for our travels. Tom captured all of our special moments on camera and shared the photos with us at the end of our trip. We appreciated this very much! We enjoyed a day trip to Cat Ba island on our second day, which was very well organized with a bike ride through a small cave to the town of Viet Han where we tried a fish foot spa and learned a bit about the history of the area. We also got the chance to swim and kayak in the emerald waters, around the limstone karsts, which was a once in a lifetime experience. It was nice to have a full itinerary of activities for those who wanted to participate, but to also be able to opt out and relax on the cruise ship if we wanted to. We also enjoyed happy hour in the jacuzzi to watch the sunsets in the beautiful bay setting each night. There was never a dull moment! The trip went by too fast and we wished we could have stayed an extra few days. If you want a king sized bed and spacious room with a large balcony, it is worth the upgrade to the ‘Peony exclusive suite’ as the furniture and regular room sizes are a bit smaller in scale which is to be expected on a cruise ship. That being said, we loved the boutique feeling of this cruise with only 20 cabins on board it was the perfect size for a more intimate experience. The ship itself was also newer and the rooms were very modern and clean. We would definitely do it all again!
