HCM's summer house by the pond
This stilt house is located within the huge HCM Mausoleum complex with several attractions within it. A small fee gives you entry to this pretty humble house by a small pond along with the Museum across it. Mr. HCM used it as his living and working quarters, rather than the next door huge Presidential Palace belonging to ex French governor. Touring the house (5 min needed) you can see his working desk with Lenin photo, as well his bed and meeting area on the ground floor. Museum across contains few cars HCM used along with info and photos.

Interesting as part of an overall view of the Ho Chi Minh compound
This is part of an area where Ho Chi Minh lived and worked, quite interesting for an hour or so, cost 40,000 Vietnamese dong to get in. I would recommend visiting because the area itself is quite beautiful. Note that the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum is currently closed as of 10 April 2024, and I believe it’s been closed for a couple of years… This is where you are normally able to file past Ho Chi Minh‘s body… So if that’s on your bucket list, unfortunately at this stage it’s a no-go. You have to queue through security to get through, and they will not let you in if your shoulders are not covered, and for women, your knees also need to be covered too…though not for men and as far as, I can tell not for children either.

    HCM house
Worth seeing where HCM lived and worked. Peaceful pond area but only need a few minutes to climb the steps and walk past the actual home. The museum closes mid-day so make sure to time your entrance. Upon entering the complex, including the museum, proper attire is needed.

Unfortunately when we visited the house was closed for repairs. We could enter the building adjacent and see the cars gifted to him. It was lovely to walk around the garden and lake and see the beautiful pagoda also on this site.

Find this site to the side of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, it offers a shady break from the heat of the day. On our visit the full site was not available but what was open to view was interesting. If you have walked this far to see the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (which was also closed) you might as well check this and the one pillar Pagoda out.

The architecture of the stilt house is very unusual. The layout is simple and the furniture is minimum. Still, the fact that the house was a favorite place for Ho Chi Minh makes this place worth visiting because of the history associated with it

The area around the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum is beautiful. It's a nice place to walk and explore and see the humble life the founder of Vietnam led while he was alive. You won't regret taking the day and doing all things Ho Chi Minh in this area of Hanoi.

The stilt house was located in the same compound as the Ho Chi Minh Palace Palace but was more accessible. It also was the only building not painted yellow.

On the ground floor there was a large meeting area that was completely visible on all sides with a posted uniformed guard. Two flights of stairs led up to a porch where I was able to view a bedroom and an office area that was not behind a thick pane of plastic. There was not too many people here and I spent a little bit longer looking inside at the decor and accessories.

I thought this was one of the more interesting buildings in the entire complex.

If you're visiting the mausoleum and associated Ho Chi Minh museum, you should take the time to visit the stilt house. The line was long, but always moving--and heavy guarded by very serious soldiers. Behave respectfully, as you should, and you're treated with respect. The house is significant in that it reinforces the simplicity of Uncle Ho--he was a philosopher, not a despot or a king; he lived simply like the people he led, which was why he was loved then and venerated now. The house is in great contrast to Diem's palace in Saigon--which was the decadent Playboy Mansion of a CIA lackey and the reprehensible Madame Nhu. Diem ultimately met his fate at the hands of his own people--Ho Chi Minh is venerated as a secular saint. The house is a glimpse into the life of one of the Greatest Revolutionaries the world has ever known who not only liberated Vietnam, but inspired the oppressed all over the globe to reject colonialism and demand dignity and autonomy. A quick stop in a day long trip to the complex.

This house is very elegant and simple, which is how Ho Chi Minh wanted it, the downstairs part is where he had his cabinet meetings and upstairs is living quarters.. It is located in beautiful grounds, a short walk from the mausoleum and presidential palace. Worth a visit if nearby.

It took use ages to find this as our maps were not clear about where it was, and the mausoleum maps didn't help, so we were all a bit hot and flustered by the time we got there. The few cars were ok. Along the way to the stilt house we were looking at fish in a pond with other tourists, and a guard yelled at everyone then stood guard to stop others. We then quickly went through the little house and left.

After becoming president of the newly independent "Democractic Republic of Vietnam", Ho Chi Minh decided to do not live at the former palace of the French Governor-General. So, inspired by the typical stilt houses of Vietnam's Northern mountainous villages, he ordered the construction of his "new palace": a simple wooden stilt house, with a dining room on its ground floor and just two small rooms upstairs. No bathroom. As humble as himself - a man wearing brown cotton clothes and car-tires sandals, like any Vietnamese country old man. Amazing history of a great leader. Visiting "Ho Chi Minh Stilt House" is a must at Hanoi's "Old Quarter" and "Ba Dinh Square" - where many monuments connected to him are located. Be respectful and silent. If time is no constraint, visit them all! Enjoy!
