The incense sticks - Hanoi photography tours with Momentlives

The photogenic incense sticks
From early morning everyday, the incense sticks are shredded from bamboos. Then the dyeing process takes place, when a layer of red color is applied onto almost a half of the stick. The sticks are then dried out in the sun, in bundles. These bundles are arranged to look like small umbrellas in order to get as much light as possible. The sticks create a layer of deep red color on the photos. And any subject at the font, such as a worker, would stand out really well and eye-catching.

Later in the day, the sticks are collected, tied in bigger bundles before loading onto small trucks and travel to other places.

I travelled to Hanoi alone and Momentlives kindly allowed me to go solo on a combined rice paper village and incense in one day. Mike replied all my emails promptly and gave his suggestions which are both professional and very helpful. Finally we decided to go to the rice paper village in the morning and the incense village in the afternoon. The incense village workers would be gathering the incense sticks in the afternoon and it would be just as good as morning. I was greeted on the day by a local guide and a driver. The local guide (sorry I forgot his name :p) spoke good English, kindly stopped and bought me breakfast because I forgot to pack a breakfast with me, and took me to the village. He is very passionate about photography. He showed me various interesting spots in the village where you can get really good shots, read the light and the scene, and being able to communicate with the locals, he spoke to the locals so they won't feel awkward having a foreigner sticking a camera in their faces or being in their premises, which is always a great help and something I could not achieve by going there on my own :p I was driven back to the hotel, had lunch on my own, and set off for the incense village in the afternoon. We got to this one incense village workshop where a number of workers were hard at work doing various tasks. My guide made the right decision of sticking to this workshop and waited - the golden hour came and it was beautiful. I would definitely recommend Momentlives to any photographers regardless of which level they are at.

My husband and I booked a tour with MomentLives to visit Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Initial communications with Mike Nguyen were excellent and we were lucky to have him as our guide as well! On the drive to Pu Luong, we stopped a few times along the way (for rest and photography) and also had lunch at the stilt home of a local family. Mike worked tirelessly to help me capture just the right shots of surrounding mountains, local villages, rice fields and villagers. Having him present as a liaison was invaluable in getting just the right shots. I also loved Mike's insights into Vietnamese culture and society during the trip. Mike felt like more of a friend than a guide and we really enjoyed his company. I also loved the place we stayed overnight in Pu Luong and it was such a great location for evening and early morning photography. Excellent tour!

875/5000 I am a Portuguese photographer who works in the field of travel photography, culture. It is important for me to be able to visit places that are still preserved with preserved cultures and to be able to count on the ground with the support of someone who is knowledgeable of the cultures and enables me to succeed in my work. I found Momentlives - Vietnam Photo Tours as a partner to help me meet my photographic goals in Vietnam. Whether in the village of Tho Ha or in other northern regions I had the support I needed by communicating with the people from each of the villages I visited and allowing me to understand the spirit of each place and to understand the activities, traditions, food traditional of each places. It was a fascinating experience that I recommend and I am sure that Momentlives will be the key to the success of your trip. Highly recommended!

We had a great Hanoi Sunrise Tour with Momentlives. Our initial communications were with Mike Nguyen. He gave clear and prompt replies to all our inquiries. On the day we were picked up at our hotel around 5 AM by our guide Mr. Hung. We had an amazing time visiting vibrant wholesale vegetable market at dawn. Later on we visited various places in the city and local market, observing locals at their morning rituals of tai chi and group dancing. The tour finished by an excellent morning meal of Pho at a traditional local eatery, followed by a Vietnamese egg coffee. Mr. Hung was very friendly and informative, with very good English. We could recommend this tour to any tourist visiting Hanoi.

I have been leading photo tours around the world for over 25 years- I go to Cambodia almost every year- but this year I decided to include Vietnam on the trip plan- We fly from Siem Reap direct to Hanoi- My dear friend who has been my contact in Cambodia for over 15 years- told me about the fellows who run Momentlives- Son and Doan- so I contacted them and made a trip plan- on the trip were five very, very experienced shooters- To be brief in every respect these two fellow gave as a seriously good trip- both skilled photographers themselves- but more importantly taking you off the beaten path in the North- We spent a number of days in the rice terraces in the North- and did not see another tourist the entire time- The headed for some small fishing viillage's along the coast- Not only would I recommend them but if I were doing a personal trip and not taking others- I would also use this company
