We booked a private cooking class in April 2022 with a custom menu. Booking and creating our own menu via WhatsApp was very smooth. They picked us up at our hotel in the old quarter and we walked to the nearby market to shop fresh ingredients. The guide was excellent, spoke English very well and we had a blast chit-chatting and wandering around the market.
After the trip to the market we went to their kitchen nearby. At this point we got another instructor, who also spoke English quite well. While cooking we learned new tips and tricks even if we had cooked Vietnamese food at home before. Cooking itself was an enjoyable and fun experience. The end result was authentic and good food, we're sure to use their recipes as inspiration for our cooking at home. We got a printed recipe book at the end of the class, which didn't contain everything we cooked but they promised to send us the missing recipes by e-mail. We did get the recipes eventually but had to send a reminder.
Overall we enjoyed the class and would recommend them to anyone wanting to learn more about Vietnamese cooking.

We had a great time with Siri and her team learning some classic Vietnamese dishes. We started with a market visit negotiating with the suppliers and brief background on how the incredible voluem of ingredients makes its way into the Hanoi for all those restaurants and street food providers. Back at the restaurant we cooked up a storm including the famous Pho Bo (Beef Soup) and fried spring rolls. We had more food than we could eat and followed our lesson with a very satisfying lunch with a group of really nice people. We also scored a cookbook.

Had a fabulous day cooking with Siri at Apron Up. She took us to the market to buy everything fresh and made the cooking seem effortless and fun. The best part was eating everything we made, so incredibly delicious!

This class is overly commercialised and lacks authenticity. Our cooking instructor Mai, was younger and spent more time showing off and cracking distasteful jokes then actually teaching us. She also consistently ran her fingers through her hair before she touching our ingredients which was disgusting. She wasn’t patient with the students that didn’t speak great English, she was more pushy then anything.
We participated in the group class and had no choice in the dishes we cooked contrary to what it said online, we didn’t vote or choose with the group. The dishes were spring rolls, bun cha, pho, papaya salad, and egg coffee. The instructor was showing off and exaggerating so much that the pho ended up being way too salty and the bun cha was too sweet... it was awkward especially when the group told her it was too much whilst cooking and then we all sat around the table eating overly seasoned food.
If you’d like to cook authentic foods, I would suggest finding a smaller business. I wouldn’t recommend this one even though the pictures look great because the process and food is seriously lacking - our entire group was very disappointed.

We had a super fun private cooking class today with Vicky. She picked us up at the hotel, took us to the market where we had a lot of fun buying some ingredients for the class. Than we went to the restaurant and she explained us how and what to do, she was very helpful and knowledgeable, we could ask all the questions we needed to be able to cook these delicious dishes also at home. I totally recommend, it was a very nice experience!

This course is not to be missed. Que our instructor was extremely funny and a fantastic instructor. She took us through the markets in the morning, explaining how Vietnamese life works. Then to the kitchen where we cooked 5 dishes each. The course held 8 people which was perfect as Que give us all the attention we needed. She speaks perfect English and explains the instructions in a very simple way. 10/10 I would recommend this to anyone!

We had a wonderful privat cooking with Thang (Vicky) at apron up cooking class. It was so nice to choose all 5 dishes as we liked, flexible starting time of the class and a fantastic teacher in Thang (Vicky). We enjoyed it so much! My mother in law and I cooked while my husband and baby watched and later on ate together with us. I would recommend that class to anyone who likes to experience authentic Vietnamese cooking.

Had a fun afternoon with Siri who speaks perfect English. First, we went to the market to buy the ingredients for the dishes we were going to cook. Then we returned to the restaurant and split up into couples to cook. We learned a lot about not only Vietnamese food, but also their culture and beliefs. Lastly, we were able to taste our creations—-way too much food to eat it all! Siri was delightful and I would recommend this class to anyone wanting to learn more about the Vietnamese food and culture.

The cooking class at Apron Up was incredible!! What made it so great was our teacher Cherry. She’s Amazing!!... so nice, kind, knowledgeable, fun, speaks English perfectly and on top of it all is an Amazing cook!!
I signed up for the group class and there were only three of us. Two of us made vegetarian version dishes and the third made traditional Vietnamese dishes.
We started out with a trip to the market. It was amazing. Our ingredients couldn’t have been any fresher!! Cherry knew so many vendors & it was obvious she’s well liked & popular with them. Not only did we get the ingredients we needed for our dishes, Cherry pointed out different vegetables and fruits I had never seen before in my life. She explained their purpose and flavors! I found it to be fascinating!
I love to cook & worked in restaurants for years. I know my way around the kitchen! Yet Cherry turned us onto some tips that I never knew. Just goes to show you Can teach an old dog new tricks!! After the class we feasted on our creations & ohhh so Delicious!
We received certificates which I thought was cool & a nice touch, plus we got a mini cook book!
I’ve got to say Apron Ups class is the best cooking class I’ve done to date. Cherry made it Amazing!!! Thank you so much!!

I would recommend this tour/class to anyone who wants a little more insight into Hanoi life and food.
I would suggest asking for Cheery to host. She is intelligent and articulate and ensures a fun experience.
The food is yummy! Too much to eat? Ask to take some away with you.

I'm sure you can arrange it, flip them an email. They have glasses in most languages. You get to pick the time and the menu. They can offer suggestions but you decide.

Do we each make our own individual meals in this class, or are we cooking all the meals together as a group?

Hi Maeyaert,
Nice to hear from you, in our group class we will teach the FIXED menu ( beef noodle soup, barbecued pork noodle, spring roll, papaya salad and egg coffee) it is the most typical menu that most of people would like to learn. If you want to learn other dishes you can contact us for arranging a private class.
Sincerely,
GozandoAndo

Hello! Do you have a private class for two in April 13th? If so how much would it be for the two of us? What time? Usually how long is the class? Thanks a lot for your help.

You need to contact/e-mail Apron Up on this - I just reviewed it after our visit in February and have no affiliation with them at all beyond taking a class there.
