Not a great Experience
Oct 2019 • Couples
Food was good but was served randomly. Soup and Appetizer was served after main course.

No drinking water was served with the food.

For deserts, home made cake was served which was rock hard and not eatable. When asked, I was told the cake was refrigerated hence its hard, we left it as it is.

Not a very good experience.

My wife and i tried Madame Yens because it was close to our hotel. The restaurant itself was fine I ordered the chicken with lemon grass. I expected a nice cut of chicken but what was served was chicken with skin and the knuckles of the chicken. My wife had the fish in banana leaves . She felt it was good , Sorry it was not good for my tastes. Will not go back. The beer was cold and tasted fine.

We happened on Madam Yen in our one and only night in Hanoi and last night in Vietnam. What a scrumptious meal. We highly recommend the Banana Flower salad with chicken

We arrived just before 9am and enjoyed the hospitality of Vietnamese coffee. Our market guide Mon brought us through some alleys to a local market to purchase additional fresh vegetables. We were able to ask her many questions about the interesting fish and meat markets and other interesting sites we passed. Mon was excellent and so friendly. We arrived back around 10am and Chef Hai took over. He is a formally trained chef who also worked in Sweden. He was so patient. We prepared deep fried spring rolls, pumpkin soup and bun cha. Then around noon we sat down to enjoy our incredible lunch. Cost is US $45 pp but considering the meal it is great value. The GM of the restaurant is very nice as well. Definitely do this!

Madame Yen's cooking Class restaurant

My husband and I ate at this most delicious restaurant. The food was traditional Vietnamese but with a contemporary flair and presented beautifully. We had a most delicious pumpkin soup and seafood banana flower salad. The service was also excellent. Our service was from a gal named Chi who also taught us about the Vietnamese culture and tips on other places to see and things to do. We can not reccomend this restaurant enough.

Cooking class

My boyfriend and myself booked a cooking class at Madame Yens, it ended up being just us which was lovely. It started off well with a tour of the market where we learnt about the local produce. The tour was taken by a lady who spoke great English and was very informative.
When we arrived back at the restaurant we got to cook 3 dishes, however the chef took over and was reluctant to let us do any of the actual cooking. We were only allowed to cut up a few vegetables and roll the spring rolls. He was clearly a good chef but his English wasn't great which made communication a bit difficult. He also plated up all of the food, when we asked to help he still took over.

Overall the food tasted nice enough but we didnt leant much and didn't really get to cook.
I'd probably recommend looking at a different local class, there were a lot but they were quite pricey however this still cost $45 USD per person.

The staffs and the chef were very nice. We got to know the recipes and ingredients for Vietnamese cuisine. Surely enhanced my understanding and affection for Vietnamese cuisine. Highly recommended!

Very presentable restaurant ( Hang Gai St ) but the food is just so - so, nothing is special, it is only something to eat if you really hungry ! If you are not hungry go to other place !
Also make sure you have enough VND in your pocket as one bottle of Mineral water will cost you VND 55,000 in this place !
