After visiting many galleries in Hanoi, we stumbled across this gem. The owner, Yen, was the most friendly, kind, and helpful host we had encountered after a long day of art hunting. The gallery had a large variety of art and styles, and Yen was very knowledgeable about each painter and could provide details about their art, and their histories. It was the very beginning of our trip in Vietnam, and we did not want to carry around a large painting. Yen arranged for our paining to be delivered to our last hotel. The painting was packaged perfectly, and Yen provided tracking details to us. Once our painting arrived at the hotel, Yen called to confirm its arrival with the hotel staff and had it put aside for us. When we arrived, it was waiting for us.
Not only was Yen knowledgeable and professional, she was also kind and honest. I had not felt that from other galleries we visited in Hanoi. We will return to this gallery on our next visit to Hanoi. Once our painting is framed and up, I will update with a photo.

A must visit!
Ms Hai Yen is extraordinary: she looks very young but has a deep knowledge of art, rich relationships with artists, and a lovely way of doing business. She does not sell on consignment but buys works she herself loves. While she has many oil paintings she specialises in Vietnamese lacquer paintings and has some stunning works. She knows the artists, the stories behind the paintings and has a refined eye for the pleasures of the works.
She has considerably fewer paintings now than when we first entered her shop. We fell in love, found her prices very reasonable (much more reasonable than the stilted and pretentious galleries nearby), and bought a range. Sadly our wall space is limited - I still miss some of the paintings we chose to leave... Ms Yen shipped the paintings beautifully. I actually took pictures of the tremendous care with which they were wrapped, and the purpose-built crate she shipped them in. We had to undo 53 screws to access the one side!
We are grateful to Ms Yen for her care, her trust, her warm heart, and her love of art and the artists that paint the works she carries. It makes all the difference to our enjoyment of the works. They sing and glow on our walls - beautiful in themselves and even more beautiful for the lovely memories they embody...

I have been at the Empty Wall Gallery many times and always comes back. No doubt this is my favorite gallery and I buy all my paintings here. I know I,m getting the real thing and the best service. It is good for an investment, and it is good for just having them at home. Thanks for the very best service :)
If you are buying paintings you cannot miss Empty Wall GAllery.

We made the rounds of a majority of the art galleries in Hanoi and were surprised to discover that the best one had not been reviewed by TripAdvisor. While other galleries had some great art by local artists, one of the biggest differences is the price and personal attention given by the owner, Ms. Yen. She knows many of the artists personally and offered to take us to meet several local artists including La Ba Quan, whose work we loved (and ended up purchasing two pieces). While we didn't have the time for this, when you see the range of styles, prices and high quality being sold along with much better pricing for the same artists than what we were quoted elsewhere, the gallery is a real find. Finally, Ms. Yen is a really sweet person who did not pressure us at all and made the whole experience really fun. She is expanding the gallery to the adjacent building so this will be two stories with about double the size in a few months- do yourself a favor and see this gallery before you consider buying elsewhere.

A very nice gallery with the owner being warm and very friendly. She takes time to explain and does not push a sale. A large variety of different kinds of art. My painting got damaged in transit and she was very kind to send me 2 different ones as compensation. Definitely recommended!

Am in northern Vietnam for 10 days on family vacation. One goal was to buy some original art for our house. Pre-identified and visited a dozen galleries in Ha Noi. This was one of 4 favorite galleries. Excellent selection, fair prices, good advice from gallary owner/manager. I bought 3 Vietnamese lacquer paintings here. Highly recommend !!!

I made the rounds of most of the galleries in Hanoi, and while there are others with very good art, they are all priced very high and don't negotiate much, if at all. This gallery is run by the owner, Hai Yen, vs. a sales person, She is a very humble, sweet and down to earth person who made it a pleasure during our visit. Not only does she have a good knowledge of the art, but she also offered to take us to visit a few of the artist's own local studios, and to help us negotiate better pricing if we decided to buy direct. We ended up buying two oil paintings from Yen at very reasonable discounts over what other galleries were asking for the same artist, and had them shipped. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this two story gallery (expanding into the adjacent space soon) before buying elsewhere, you won't be sorry.

A real gem of established and upcoming works by local artists, all curated by an owner who knows her stuff. She has a good eye and was able to recommend other works based on my initial reactions to some works. Will definitely be back, but the question is do I have enough walls??
