Unfortunately we didn’t get to go on our cruise due to Covid. I had already put a deposit down and Dragon Legend were fantastically helpful in reimbursing me. It took a while but they were very communicative and straightforward—fantastic customer service. We will not hesitate to book with them to go on the actual cruise as soon as we can!

Dragon Legend lives up to its promise of sailing apart from the pack. Happily our boat, accompanied by its twin ship, was only half full as January weather can be cold and rainy. Fortunately for us, the weather was favorable, and we enjoyed an especially beautiful sunrise, mostly sunny skies and warm temperatures. The food was very good, the room clean and comfortable, the passengers friendly and the staff sweet. Long, the tour guide who learned English listening to the Back Street Boys, was darling, and Tony, the organizer, was kind and accommodating. Though I was not up physically to bamboo basket visits to floating villages and pearl places, I did enjoy standing at the head of the tender, the wind in my face as we cruised among the karsts.

We took a 3-day/2-night cruise on Halong Bay on the Dragon Legend (the company is named Indochina Junk). I must preface this review by saying that we had taken a 5-star cruise up the Mekong River two weeks earlier, so our standards were set pretty high. The company did a good job taking care of us the whole time (except for the pick-up at our Hanoi hotel by a non-English speaking driver, so we were not sure we were on the right bus). The ride to and from the boat from Hanoi was long (4.5 hours), but in a luxurious and comfortable 6-passenger van. The boarding place had a bit of cattle car feel to it, but we weren't there too long. The boat was very nice and the room was large, although a little musty smelling. The crew did a good job arranging activities to keep everyone busy most of the time. The overall tour director was top-notch and did a great job treating everyone as individuals. Now, for the areas to improve. The food was of average quality overall, however, compared to most food we'd had in Vietnam, below average. Besides the few senior members of the crew, everyone else seemed to care much more about what was on their cell phone than the passengers. And, last, the stop at the water puppet show was a nearly complete waste of time, except for the humor value. Halong Bay itself was really nice. I was worried that we would be steaming through heaps of trash, but it all seemed quite cleaned up, and the Indochina Junk company really seemed to care about the environment. The scenery is astounding (that's why we all go!), and worth the trip. You will get a good taste for the scenery on a 1-night cruise, but a 2-night cruise is a bit more relaxing, although you basically stay in the same part of the bay. Oh, and you won't be alone: it's not crowded but you'll always be in sight of another tour boat. From what I've read, the Dragon Legend is one of the better cruises on the Bay, and I recommend it, but it's not exactly a 5-star experience.

We checked the reviews before booking our 3 days 2 nights with Dragon Legend because it was pricier than other companies and we were so happy we trusted and booked the trip with Dragon Legend. Our cabin was so spacious and comfortable, We have a bathtub for 2 with windows we could open, we sat there taking in the view while relaxing. The food was great, if we had one complaint: there was too much! :) The boat was steady and I did not get sea sick which I was a bit afraid of. Our guide 'Long' was amazing. So smart and funny, spoke great english, multi talented and warm. He made us feel like we were part of a family. The excursions were interesting, the floating fishing village gave us insights into what must be a challenging way of life, albeit in a very beautiful environment. We also enjoyed the warm pool on the top deck and the massages at the spa. All and all a great experience

I am so glad to have found Indochina Junk and their Dragon Legend 3 day/2 night cruise on Halong Bay. EVERYTHING about the experience was top-notch from the booking to transportation logistics, to the the incredible staff (our Cruise Director Long was phenomenal!), the rooms, the amenities on board (my son LOVED the heated pool), the activities and the wonderful food (thank you Chef Dao and team!). I also loved how they are working to clean up the Bay by utilizing eco-friendly and sustainable practices. There is absolutely nothing I would change about the experience aside from wishing it could have been longer. Would definitely recommend this company and this specific boat to anyone looking to do a cruise on Halong Bay.
